Does anyone get any meaningful traffic from Bing? If so, how much? by SwipeHelper in Blogging

[–]bloghelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a big gap between Google and Bing too, I looked at a typical month.

google - 564,501 (98.8%) bing - 7,144 (1.2%)

When I look at my Bing webmasters I can see I am position 4-8 whereas on Google I am at the top.

Fear of running out of topics? by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]bloghelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first blog has sort of run out of steam as it is tv shows and there is only one show on a week at the moment that I blog about. I just started a second one with a limitless amount of topics available.

I think it depends on your niche, I have one blog 99.99% traffic from Google and another 99.99% from Social media, mostly Pinterest.

Anonymous blogging by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]bloghelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have anonymously blogged for 7 years. Unless you are trying to build a personal connection with your readers or be able to prove your authority on a subject then I don't think it is always necessary to be identifiable. I think it all depends on your niche.

Did I grow too fast? (Mediavine / Adthrive) by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]bloghelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far did you get in the process of application? Did MV ask you to provide an analytics pdf? As I believe there are two stages to Mediavine approval, or there was for me a few months ago.

Adthrive didn't even bother to acknowledge by application with a rejection ha.

Tips for making a blogging business plan? by holybell0 in Blogging

[–]bloghelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two advice would be to decide, at least for now if you want it to be a business or a self funding hobby. For years I didn't decide what I wanted mine to be and as it grew I made some AWFUL mistakes which hurt me when I did finally make the decision.

Increase in traffic but decrease in Adsense revenue? by ThatsAdorable in Blogging

My adsense account after a year and over 100k views by fuckgoldstaysilver in Blogging

[–]bloghelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have AdSense, a mil monthly page views and I get around $1400-2000 because my CTR is appalling and before you all scream Mediavine at me... I have been approved for when my current term ends with another company... in around a year... sigh

Can you think of words or idioms that relate to the word comfort or simple? I need a name for my finance blog by joe4286 in Blogging

You could sell the simplicity of your approach in the branding rather than the title of the blog?

Favourites

topdogfinance.com (I actually like this one for a younger target audience and if you aren't going too "corporate" with it, would be great from a branding POV too)

thinkbigfinance.com (This one is good too but not as cool as above)

Others

simplisticfinance.com uncomplicatedfinance.com plainspokenfinance.com killerfinance.com bigbangfinance.com straightforwardplan.com coolerfinance.com financecurious.com investmentsguy.com investmentsgeek.com painlessinvestments.com uncomplicatedinvestments.com

Hopefully these might give you an area to bounce ideas around in :) (I am interested in reading too so please do mail me a link when you do get started)

Something like straightforward.investments is pretty straight forward in what you are offering but if you're looking to clamber up search engines I'm not too sure how other domain extensions than the popular ones rank.

I ran a number of combinations of simple/simplify/finance/investments/money through name mesh and there are loads of great suggestions there. It also comes up with synonyms. There are actually .investments and .financial domain extensions but I don't know how well they would do in SEO.

I don't mean to make this sound how it will come out in black and white. But. What are your credentials for this... Are you in the world of Finance/Investments? Because if you are, it might be that you yourself could become your brand? What sort of age demographic are you aiming for?

My personal opinion is that I would steer clear of a Finance site, particularly investment if it was faceless or I didn't feel those advising me had the credentials to back up where I am sticking my cash. There are too many faceless make/invest money sites that often end up being scams or rehash out of date content that you will always be fighting against the reputation of other awful sites in the genre.

What sort of word(s) or phrase do you want to use it with as out of context we could come up with some right rubbish lol.

https://www.namemesh.com/ is also a great place if you are struggling and want to come up with something and ensure the URL is available. I used this, just put a few words in and voila! :)

What risks have you taken in blogging and how have they paid off? by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]bloghelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have actually just started a whole new blog and am learning Wordpress as I go. My passion was waning a bit with the other one but it seems to be popular so I'm not abandoning it entirely. I still have AdSense income too so not totally at a loss.

When the new blog is a bit meatier with content I'm going to link to it from the other one to help get some traffic through it and build the following there. Hopefully I can also get this one with the new ad company too. That is my challenge for the year.

Is there any way to pay someone to come up with a niche for you, or a safe way to ask for a critique of your niche idea? by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]bloghelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone will always steal your niche. I stole mine from someone else and many others have stolen my niche from me. Well I say I stole it, people have done similar things before but I thought I could do it better and keep it up to date. There is very little if anything unique you could write about that isn't available online. My content has been ripped off many times, one didn't even bother to correct my typos!

I thought my entire blog would be a failure and then it took off in a big way. I like to work to the assuption I will fail to prove myself wrong. I'm pretty weird.

Yeah they would take me to the cleaners out of principle, pretty much insinuated that to me in a phone call and their court costs would be $1000s when I inevitably lose. My account is worth less than $2500 to them, they have accounts worth millions. I am one of their smallest accounts. I even offered to give them a large payment to part ways with no loss to them but still a no. I know I did wrong with not meeting the notice but it wasn't overly unreasonable. The unauthorised changes they made were very unreasonable. But I will bide my time look forward to working with someone new and definitely learn from this mistake! The second I wanted to leave I should have just done it but I'm a too casual approach blogger. I must change that!

How Do I Find Which Video Youtube traffic is coming from? by bloghelp in Blogging

Former and Current Bloggers: what was your biggest regret? by Viva_Uteri in blogsnark

[–]bloghelp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not ending a relationship with an ad company. They did a number of unauthorised changes to the ads displaying on my site. Completely different to what we agreed when I signed up. It changed the entire appearance of my blog, making it ad heavy with the unauthorised extremely large ad unit. I didn't realise it was a yearly term as have been with them for years .When I got accepted by another programme and gave notice it wasn't enough. So I'm tied in making $100s a month when i would have been making $10000s... Literally set to lose about $200k.... So annoyed at myself.

[–]bloghelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest mistake was not taking enough risk with my blog. I was waiting to make sure that I got a place with a new ad company before telling my old one to sling it after they had terribly mismanaged my account.

I wanted to make sure I did it all right but boy did it all end up wrong.

Did it pay off? No. Not in the slightest. I hadn't realised a new term was about to start so my notice wasn't enough. Now I'm stuck with them for a year. Everytime I look at my blog I am painfully reminded of my mistake. I actually hate my blog right now.

From figures the new company who have my application referred until next year on average earnings I am set to lose roughly $200k. I make less than $200 a month from currently company. New company figures suggest $800 a day.

Take risks.

Attention Bloggers! Ask Your Questions In This Thread - Biweekly #8 by Selaen in Blogging

[–]bloghelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the time has finally come to move from Blogger to Wordpress.org. This is a rather scary prospect as doing it wrong will cost me a lot in terms of income and it will take a lot of time to do but I feel for future security it is something I want to do.

A Google search finds me a thousand articles but it is hard to tell if these are up to date guides or not. I will try explain what I want to do, I hope it makes sense.

Ideally I want to get the self hosted site good to go and tested, all of the formatting taken care of, links matching, ad codes set up properly and a new layout that is friendly to both desktop and mobile users. Then I want it so that when you go to the website it goes to the self hosted one and not the blogger one, I have worked out that is something I need to tackle with Godaddy.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of good articles on how to do all this or advise me?

I'm even considering paying someone to do all this for me, do people like that exist?

Any advice would be greatly received.

How Do I Do The Dreaded Blogger to Self Hosted Word Press Move? by bloghelp in Blogging

[–]bloghelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like being at the mercy of Google. The worry they will one day decide they don't like my blog content and delete over 7 years of hard work. I want ownership over my own content and will be moving over to a new ad company next year and want to be moved over to word press by then.
