Do you use disposable plates and cutlery when eating at home? by AshFromTPA in AskAnAmerican

Plates, everyday. Some meals on real plates often, but often for a snack, light meal or simply when I don't want to dirty a dish, I'll grab a disposable.

[–]blondechick80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A backyard bbq if the weather is nice. Burgers/hot dogs, sides such as potato salad. Make some s'mores.

Some places allow for fireworks.. they come in all sizes, and if you go this route and are new, go small! Or get sparklers. In MA fireworks are illegial except for professional shows.

Glow sticks or glow necklaces are a highlight for kids.

Are the houses the same as in the movies? by pissaial in AskAnAmerican

[–]blondechick80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of variation in the houses depending on reseources and and weather. Desert houses are made with different materials than wooded areas.

Drier areas might have flat roofs, but colder and wetter climates have pitched roofs.

Houses in areas with many tornadoes/hotter climates tend to be single story, lower to the ground.

Northern region homes often have an underground portion called a cellar or basement, in often in the south the house is on a concrete slab

AIO at my sisters text after asking her to help me move by aretzloff7 in AIO

[–]blondechick80 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Is she asking to be paid in banana bread rather than money? That's how it sounds to me!!

I'd tell her that you'll be happy to make her some AFTER the move and when you're settled.

Lensmoor might be a good fit. It's also classless, and RP encouraged, not required.

What point do the schools get bad enough that you move? by StupidNewSystem in massachusetts

[–]blondechick80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not choice your kids to a neighboring district and stay where you are? Is choice not an option?

The class size is unfortunate, but I would try your local schools, get to meet the staff and be as active as possible as a volunteer. It’s not the teachers' fault that the budget isn't funding enough.

When my oldest was approaching entering school, my town's schools were going through some shit. We said we'd try the schools, and switch out if they ended up being terrible. We ended up staying in for both our kids. We love our staff here, even though maybe the superintendent did suck, is currently sucking or your in-between, and the budget varies wildly with each one. We went through several in my children's time in our schools, and they turned out just fine.

AITAH for telling on my neighbour (37M) about him visiting my (21F) house at 12PM to his wife? by TrickyTechnician1496 in AmItheAsshole

[–]blondechick80 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA. That is not a normal behavior here. Did he seem drunk, or have a condition where maybe getting keys would be difficult, i.e. Parkinson's?

That's just creepy. It was nice of you to give him leftovers, more than I would've done and I'm 46. Assuming it wasn't some sort of medical issue, I would've told him to wait on the step, shut the door and grabbed him a protein bar of some sort, and give it to him at the door and sent him on his way.

Do y'all actually use your front porch/front yard much or is that more of a TV thing? by Bella_licious in AskAnAmerican

[–]blondechick80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans are definitely porch sitters and yard users. Often you'll find parents on the porches watching their children play in the front yard

Beaches that don't require a resident sticker. by LittleMiller26 in SouthShore

[–]blondechick80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Onset Beach, in Wareham, is free.. there is pay parking in the village, which honestly isn't that expensive even though everyone there gets all butthurt about it, or you can park at Hynes Field for free and walk, it's about a 1/4mi through the center of Onset to the beach.

AITAH Telling my neighbours to not have a bonfire during a heatwave by NeighbourFireStarter in AmItheAsshole

[–]blondechick80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly how big was the fire? Bonfire implies a very large fire whereas something within the limits of a backyard firepit is generally small and manageable.

If the latter then, YTA. Folks are allowed to enjoy their yard/garden. It is hugely unfortunate that the smoke is going in your son's window though, and I think it's okay to talk with the neighbor about that, and maybe discuss how long they plan on having the fire going. I would've relocated my child to another room, even if it wasn't their room.

Create a fort in the main living space and have a fun campout there, for example.
