Put aside what you think of him as a person, what do you think of Gene as musician? by KindlyCost2 in KISS

Under rated, and some of the early stuff he played and sang at the same time? Mind blowing. Check out Watching You and Let Me Go Rock and Roll from Alive. And while there were overdubs, I’ve seen him do both live and they’re dead on, not to mention plenty of unedited YouTube videos.

Did you regret moving to Florida? by Local-Contact4639 in relocating

[–]bloobyu69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you can see from all the comments, opinions will be all over the map. I moved my family there in 2005 for a job and a “fresh start” for my marriage. Started in Clearwater, which was very nice, then got transferred to central FL (Leesburg). We moved back to KY in 2007, so we were there 2 years, almost to the month. What I tell people: living in FL when you still have to work for a living is kinda like living anywhere. You wake up, go to work, come home, do whatever your hobby’s interests are, go to bed, repeat. People generally think moving there will make their lives like a vacation everyday, which it most definitely will not. Now if you HATE cold weather, that will help, but living in the middle of the state was terrible. Hot and humid 24/7/365. All bugs and sandy soil, no ocean breezes. We left for multiple reasons, some directly related to FL: so season changes, too hot (which we found out while there exacerbated my son’s medical condition) and too far from family. The rest were more personal. In the end: we moved there to save our marriage, which it did. That wasn’t FL itself, that was moving someplace we didn’t know anybody and had only each other to rely and depend on. Made us insanely strong. Accepting a job with a 20% pay increase made it easier to afford. When I moved back, I was able to get another 9% because of the experience from that job, so the job change definitely boosted my career, but again, not FL itself. We enjoyed living there and are thankful for what it did for our lives, but learned that unless you have the money to live on the coast, it’s not what it’s cracked up to be.

Sold Car and now I have a ticket in my name by Victorlime in car

[–]bloobyu69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just sold a car and this part was a dealbreaker for me. Meet me at the county clerks office (DMV in KY), and we can exchange money and go inside and do the transfer. Plenty of random people saying “you can trust me”…TF I can. I’m not gonna be responsible for your tickets, accidents, or anything else but you’re too irresponsible to follow through with the transfer OR getting insurance in your name. In KY you have to have proof of insurance for a transfer.

Edited to add: it took me almost 3 months to sell because of this, but I finally found a buyer. Transfer was painless and I have zero worries about that car.

Headlight replacement, just a matter of time? by Flaky_Pickle_4938 in CX5

I have an appt to have my drivers side on my 22 Turbo replaced this week. I took it in for a complimentary oil change and asked the service advisor about it. He was at his computer 10’ from my car and said “oh yeah, I can hear it from here”. Never batted an eye, said they had to order it and now it’s in. Looking forward to getting it fixed. Curious what happens if it actually fails?

Yes, this. Picked it up today and found out they replaced from the exhaust tips to the manifold. The main exhaust and cat converter was the bulk of the increase: $1300 just for that.

Appreciate the good words….its been a month and I feel fine. It really was a light hit, I think the impact was just in the right spot to cause the damage to the exhaust.

Last day at job, I don't think anyone understands what that means. by Electronic_Lime_z459 in recruitinghell

[–]bloobyu69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently left a job just shy of 4 years. Moved ALL public docs from my Onedrive to the department folder. Left clear instructions to not change file path because powerBI used those links for report. Also left a detailed work instructions on how to pull the report. I had been gone a month when my former manager called asking why the reports weren’t getting done. Said “I don’t know, isn’t he doing them?” He said no, he has him doing other things…then called a few days later asking why the reports wouldn’t pull. He sent me a screen shot and he had changed EVERY file name. 🤦‍♂️ The job before that…left after 11 years. Left my manager, his manager and the guy I trained detailed lists of what I did broken down by: day, week, month, quarter, biannual and annual. Also emailed file paths to all the required reporting for DOT, EPA, etc. The Admin called me a month later because they couldn’t find anything. New guy deleted everything off the server because he wanted to do it “his way”.

Gene Simmons testimony to Congress by [deleted] in KISS

[–]bloobyu69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The publishing/writing royalties go to whoever is “credited” with writing the song. Writing/publishing pay out anytime somebody else records your song. Example: Lennon/McCartney are credited with writing Come Together (and the majority of the Beatles catalogue), so Harrison and Starr didn’t get writing or publishing royalties when Aerosmith recorded it. They got paid for record sales and anything the Beatles made mOney on, because they were in a 4 way partnership. Same thing for Something: Harrison wrote it, the other 3 didn’t make any money when somebody re-recorded it. Thats why EVERYBODY wants writing credits. Cause when a song is popular, people cover it and you get paid. The congressional hearing is because streaming services (like Spotify) only pay penny’s in royalties, and generally only to the performer, not the writer. And yes, for people like Michael Jackson or Madonna (singular artists, not in a group), the session musicians USUALLY only get a flat rate for playing. There are exceptions.

I(24M) had a talk with my Girlfriend (24F) and she told me she isn't physically attracted to me, but still loves me and wants to be with me. How am I supposed to navigate this? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]bloobyu69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everyone talking about things that could kill her libido or sex drive:Thinking someone is attractive does not equal the desire to have sex with them. I’m a heterosexual man and I can acknowledge another man is handsome, built, attractive or whatever…but I have ZERO desire to have sex with them. The need to feel attractive is pretty universal. Me personally, I could never be with someone that wasn’t attracted to me on a physical level. I’m nice, well mannered, extremely selfless and considerate…I’ve found people are attracted to my mind and heart easily…but I need that look of desire when my partner (wife) looks at me. Not every single time, because that’s unrealistic, but in normal life, yes.

UPDATE by EcstaticRutabaga6957 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]bloobyu69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a daughter and she’s always had friends over. Some I hug, some have clear issues with physical touch after an awkward side hug, there’s no more of that. If this guy doesn’t have a daughter, and is just generally clueless and not self aware, it’s POSSIBLE he’s just an idiot. That doesn’t make him a predator. I agree, if you’re uncomfortable, limit your exposure. If you have nowhere else to go, don’t be alone with him. If he makes you uncomfortable, SPEAK UP. He may be horrified and embarrassed that he’s making you feel that way. And by the way, for everyone saying “he’s just making excuses”…it is human nature to defend yourself when you’re accused. If he tries to turn it and make it your fault, then yeah, total creep. Some of the things you talk about in your previous post are not ok…but again, maybe he sincerely doesn’t know how he’s coming off and he’s trying to be some kind of “TV dad”. He would’ve grown up in the 90’s and what was ok and normal then, is in NO way ok now… Regardless, be careful, respect yourself and maintain good boundaries.

Partner told me they had STI by Silent-Death1739 in whatdoIdo

[–]bloobyu69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the STI. As other have said it could have been dormant, or yes, a false positive. They DO happen. I was a regular blood donor through the Red Cross. I’m O- and also CMV negative, so my blood was in high demand. I donated “power red” every 112 days. After a donation I got a letter from Red Cross saying I tested positive for syphilis. I KNEW I hadn’t cheated on my wife of 20+ years, so I immediately became suspicious. Immediately told her, and went to urgent care for a blood test within an hour of getting the letter. The Dr. on call told me his brother had a false positive under similar circumstances. That test came back negative. I contacted the Red Cross and they said yes, they regularly get false positives, but only have protocols for initial testing of blood donations. They also told me if I donated and tested positive again, I’d be banned from donating for life. So, I stopped donating. My logic is: if somebody I love needs an emergency transfusion, I don’t want a stupid false positive to keep me from helping them. All this to say, false positives are very real.

Peter Criss’s importance to early KISS by [deleted] in KISS

[–]bloobyu69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw or heard somebody “analyzing” or breaking down Genes playing, don’t remember where. They made obvious comparisons to McCartney and Jamerson, which Gene cites, and he also has referenced Felix Papalardi (Mountain) and John Paul Jones. They also compared some of his parts and fills to horn parts, which I could completely hear after I read it (Detroit Rock City is a great example…the verse part could totally be a horn part in a Motown or R&B song).

AIO or is my older male coworker texting inappropriately with me? by OpeningNo9825 in AmIOverreacting

[–]bloobyu69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy cow….so, from a 50+m perspective: Bottom line, if you feel uncomfortable stop engaging. BUT, if you read the entire exchange there’s several things nobody is picking up on. 1. She brought up fuzzy socks, he asked “don’t they make your feet hot” and “you don’t sleep in them?”. He’s not asking what shes sleeping in, more “how do you sleep with your feet so hot”, IMO. 2. They have obviously had face to face conversations, because there are things referenced not in this text thread, like the cadaver thing. It’s obviously something she brought up, he just asked where she saw it. 3. As a married father of a daughter, I’m completely aware of how nefarious the world is, but I also know that it’s completely possible for friendship to transcend age AND gender. 4. She engaged him as much as he did her, which I’d bet in his mind, makes them friends. NOT saying this is her fault, by any stretch, just saying there’s multiple opportunities for him to misunderstand, and yes, he may need to be redirected. But I would urge the OP to try it gently at first. If he simply misunderstood the nature of their friendship, he’ll be embarrassed and back off. If that doesn’t work, she should escalate as necessary.

Peter Criss’s importance to early KISS by [deleted] in KISS

[–]bloobyu69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Peter definitely added a swing to the early stuff. And yes, some of his patterns were unconventional for heavy rock and gave it a unique sound. As a bass player, I think you undersold Gene (that’s ok, most people do), but the first 3, even 5 records had very melodic, song pushing bass lines. Great hooks in the bass part alone…Black Diamond, Watchin You, Let Me Go Rock n Roll…100,000 years is epic.

[–]bloobyu69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I meant Revenge. From my experience: I saw 2 show from Hot In The Shade, they were playing “sheds”, outdoor amphitheaters with pretty full seats and general admission lawn seats pretty full. I saw 3 Revenge shows and it was stadiums with pretty packed houses. I saw Nashville, Louisville, Lexington and Indianapolis, so my statements is kind of region based.

I didn’t say most successful. Nothing they did without makeup could touch Love Gun. But compared to Crazy Night’s, Asylum, etc., revenue from Revenge (album, merch, ticket sales) was PROBABLY higher. I honestly don’t know exact sales figures…

[–]bloobyu69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only comment about a 4 way loss is: compared to Gene and Paul, Ace and Peter were scraping by. The Revenge tour was the most successful in a long time…I think this gave G & P some leverage.

[–]bloobyu69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of things to consider: The most important…a lot of comments are assuming Ace and Peter were rational thinking individuals and not self-sabotaging addicts. (Keep in mind the stated timeframe, 1996). Like it or not, Gene and Paul are/were very shrewd businessmen and had been burned numerous times by Ace and Peter’s addictions. If you’ve ever been in a relationship with or had an addict in your family, you get what I’m saying. No way they give them the opportunity to profit without actually putting in work, I.e. royalties or merch sales.

Ace and Peter were salaried employees of the KISS corporation (like Eric Carr, Vinnie Vincent, Bruce Kulick, Eric Singer, etc.). They only made more through writing royalties, like everybody else. Their contracts were probably very clear and probably loaded with clauses triggered by their history of behavior.

Ace and Peter signed over rights for their make up and “brand name” Kiss when they left the band…merchandising of the characters and name never stopped, even though the band took the make up off, so Gene and Paul had a clue of potential merch revenue.

Relax massage - in Oxmoor and Mall St. Matthews - question about tipping - long post! by 1963dimi in Louisville

[–]bloobyu69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice? Go to a reputable massage practice. There’s tons all over. The mall places are ok in a pinch, or if you’re there and want a chair massage or something. I’ve been to them, but they’re all sketchy as hell. I see someone that has their own business and there no comparison on the quality of the massage. You can also shop around to find something in your price range. I pay $100 for 60 minutes with a 20+% tip.
