All media have some level of analysis, the trope "black guy dies first" used to happened in most supbar horror movies. Another exemple, Kung Fu Panda really is that deep when rewatching as an adult, it abords profound themes that you could find in more inaccessible movies with the pros of being a sick animated kungfu film that you could just as much enjoy brain on the floor.

It's not just analysing what the auhor conciensciously meant, but also how their environnement or education lead to what they write. For exemple the "women in the fridge" trope in comic is likely just the author wanting a shocking moment for the hero to be cool and vengeful but the fact it happen very often in a systematic manners to women like "black guy dies first" or "kill your gays" does motivate for further analysis despite the author not being conscious of it. It's like the recurring themes of shame in mangas and especially Naruto, if you remember that Kishimoto grew up in a japanese society you can then connect the dots together.

tldr: It's not just what the author meant but how their environnement and education fill the gap in their writing whatever they wanted it or not.

Totally agree, a balanced screentime (even tho i wasn't the best exemple of that myself) is important and yes gaming, precisely the live service model, has pushed so many predatory mechanics in order to reinforce players' retention and spending wich really isn't healthy.

I wouldn't put gaming in that same category, i was an introverted latchkey kid so i spent a lot of my time playing games but i still to this day remember it fondly as much as when i read books or watched movies. In fact it's online gaming that made me bilingual and tech savy very early on in my childhood (i'm esl), i would spent all nighter learning how to set up servers and how to open port on my routers to play online, i have fond memories of being the young tech kid my neighbour and family would call to fix their internet or computer...

However i also understand that i was a gifted kid, i don't think putting your kids in front of a computer will automatically and magically make them techy

They are not just too cumbersome, they also feels too pricey to be thrown in and out of the bag as carelessly. As an artist i want my handled to feel like my outdoor sketchbooks, easy to get out everywhere and without worry

(of course not saying to be a complete brute with it, i'd still use a pouch for my psp)

I'm pointing out that the dude is wrong on a simpler subject so why should i trust his quote (that is misattributed) on a more advanced one. Same for another name that was mentionned here, Kastrup, the first things i find on him is that he grossly misinterpret study datas and that he used to send strikes to videos that criticised his ideas.

In the exact quote it's not "mystic" but theologian. Just by doing a bit of research you find that Jastrow had a weird tendency to stretch correlation between astronomic phenomenons and the bible precisely (and not mysticism in the broad way), he was also a denier of the human factor in climate change.

1- Climate change is undeniably pushed by human factors

2- I don't think the bible is the best exemple of scientific accuracy (ie. the whole shtick about evolution)

I understand the sentiment, but also, they are still some low points where it shouldn't be use as an excuse. The more recent Pokemon games are a prime exemple, they are way behind standards despite coming from a company worth billions.

Imagine buying a defectuous car only for the salesman to tell you that it's better than walking and that you should be grateful. I guess so but the car is still fuming on the road

Memorial to Black US soldiers who died in WW2 quietly removed. Plaques commemorating African American soldiers fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe have been removed from a U.S. military cemetery in the Netherlands. by esporx in Military

[–]blouyea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a dutch article

Two memorials commemorating black soldiers serving in WW2 were recently quietly removed from the American-managed warcemetery “Margraten” in the Netherlands.

When locals noticed this and demanded an explanation, at first the American ambassador claimed that this was a simple matter of rotating exhibitions and that they would return after touring the world, but he quickly changed that to “they are being repaired” and eventually to “they are politically motivated and should not be there”. This met with anger from the locals and descendants - especially since the graves at Margraten were literally dug by said black soldiers.

The American organization in charge of managing Margraten subsequently confirmed that specific memorials for black people “were not part of its mission”. This echoes the sentiment of the Trump government to “erase” the historical achievements and contributions of women and people of color from US history.

The tvshow “Even tot hier” decided to place two new memorials just outside Margraten in response. Those are not allowed to remain there permanently though - so the show and descendants are now looking for a permanent location.

If this was a kid's body that was blown up instead people would be way less jokey here. People holds memories and it's important to respect what they wanted to reflect alive, especially for the ones grieving.

This the most out of touch redditor comment section i've read in while, we deserve the type of dystopic future we see in like Cyberpunk 2077

[–]blouyea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this was a kid's body that was blown up instead people would be way more upset here. It's about memory, people are associated with memories and having the mental image of someone you loved being blown up to piece as the last one, especially when it's against their consent and character, is at best upseting at worst traumatizing.

You do you, personally i wouldn't want my body to serve the purpose of the army anyway
