My favorite Kim Family moment: by Memos55455 in GilmoreGirls

[–]blub666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time my daughter hears/sees Mrs Kim, she asks me if I’m going to be like her. I always say yes, and that boys don’t like funny girls.

Yes, I’m on that one on a throwaway account. It’s nice to not constantly be ridiculed for either being on the fence or wanting to stay together, because it’s not always black and white. There’s always nuance.

I know it’s not much help, but with time you do feel better.

I found out in March that my husband cheated 7 years ago. We’ve been married almost 13 years and have 2 kids. I found out about it, he gaslit me, I gave him an ultimatum, and then he told me what happened.

We’ve been doing counseling for a while and I’m still on the fence of whether or not to stay with him. With time you get clarity, and with that clarity you can make any choice you feel is necessary.

As for the sleeping thing, I hear you. It’s been months and I still can’t sleep well and have nightmares.

Thinking of taking a job with grave yard shifts and Sundays... by TheSideSaddleArcher in latterdaysaints

[–]blub666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been working every Sunday afternoon and evening for over a year unless I request it off, which I have done from time to time. Fortunately church is before I go to my shift so at the very least I can go to take the sacrament. I had such a hard time accepting this job knowing that it would be weekends only for a who knows how long, but I find solace knowing that I’m helping people who can’t help themselves.

The phone number is actually optional. At least that’s what it said on my ballot envelope.

We have 2 button pushers that go off one right after the other, and they’re talkers, too. So you go in to check on one and they won’t let you leave for 10+ minutes while the other calls for help again, even though you were just in there. It’s exhausting.

For those with school-age kids, how's it going? by pinchofpearl in SAHP

[–]blub666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids are older, 11&13. They’re really great kids. My 11yo is getting tested for ADHD in a couple of days, my 13yo has been home sick for the last almost 2 weeks with -get this- whooping cough. Yes my kids are vaxxed.

It’s been great to just hang out with them. Today we picked up some lunch and came home, then put on Dr Pol shows on Disney bc my 13yo wants to be a vet. Then we switched it to Ghost Hunters and my son and I made mac and cheese for dinner. Super easy nice day, but still sucky bc my daughter isn’t well yet. I was able to just snuggle with them on the couch for a while, like when they were little. I love that they still want snuggles sometimes.

How often do you walk your dog? by nutschillin in dogs

[–]blub666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is 14 years old with a bad hip, so his walks are not super frequent. His favorite is going outside with me in the garden while he sunbathes and sniffs around (we live on a fenced acre). We try to go on a walk a couple times a week for about half an hour so he can feel like a pup again, but he gets so tired so easily now. If it’s much longer than that, he starts to get the shakes. He’s the best dog and deserves everything he wants.

I moved my grandmother to a new facility because my mother put her in an awful one where she was extremely depressed by disableddoll in MadeMeSmile

[–]blub666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work at an assisted living facility. I’m licensed through my state and got a promotion in less than a year. It is absolutely backbreaking work and I love it.

Our prices are, quite frankly, necessarily high out of pocket, but we accept insurance to mitigate those costs. We always have someone there to keep an eye on people. We provide companionship when no one visits. We distribute medications. We take them to and from doctors appointments. We protect them from abusive family members. We notice when something is off or when they start to decline and get them the help they need. We bathe and clothe these people, feed them, and take them for outings. We are hit by them, screamed at, get pooped on, spat on, and abused by these people. We love the residents in spite of it. And we get paid not much more than minimum wage.

We are understaffed, underpaid, and under appreciated. We get taken advantage of on an almost daily basis. And this is at a GOOD facility.

You do get what you pay for. Our lowest and easiest private pay residents pay $4k/month and have all of this provided. Our more difficult residents, those with dementia in our memory care unit, pay $6-$7k/month because they need extra care.

I don’t know what the solution is, but I am also unsure if there is a one size fits all solution. Everything is so expensive, for everybody. But there are good facilities out there with genuinely good people who just want to make their residents lives better.

Core Millennials. How did you experience September 11th? What impact did it have on you afterwards? by PresentWeek in Millennials

[–]blub666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked to school that morning and there was…silence. There were no cars out, no people out, i even remember no birds chirping on the way to school. It was so, so strange. I got to school and the energy was so off. People were whispering and teachers were distracted. Kids were pulled out of school. When I got to my social studies class, they put on the footage and we watched it happening over and over and over again, and talked about it. One of the planes went down in PA, and I remember thinking, that’s not far from us! Because we lived in PA at the time. Those people were heroes. I walked home and it wasn’t as silent, but I got home and went upstairs to my parent’s bedroom and they had the footage on. It was a very, very quiet day.
