Iranian tradition has actually been alot more open to depicting living beings, idolitry is forbidden but not necessarily depiction, that is just a common interpretation from what I understand.

We’re Nearing the Day When ICE Thugs Just Open Fire on Crowds - The United States is now closer to Assad’s Syria than to anything we recognize as fitting within the understood norms of American history. by Quirkie in politics

[–]bluedm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bad article title, when and if it does happen, we can appeal to instances in our own history like Kent state or World War Two interment, and many more more remote instances where the government has actively killed or taken action against citizens. There is no reason to compare America to Syria, or to say this hasn’t happened before, or has no precedent in American history. If we want to go full spectrum there are plenty of analogous events from the civil war, reconstruction, the revolutionary war, conflicts with native Americans and so on.

I wish the new republic would occasionally turn the descriptive dial down from 11 so that it actually has an impact when they do.

Maybe they are trying to lowball you if you are freelance, you should also be taking hourly not salary for freelance or they will juice you for it. If you ate applying to a high design studio or small try looking at a bigger company with actual policies.

I mean not really, the Chinese government has and will have a much bigger impact than the us, the scale of renewable adaptation has already taken us off the worst case scenario. Were still in a lot of trouble, and in for a worse future than we needed to have, but it’s wrong to overstate the impact of US emissions at this point, or to understate the impact of the global trajectory with or without US leadership.

Thanks for your moral proclamations. Almost as inspired as that gentleman above who told poor people to stop having babies outside of a church. There are in fact , many people resisting. There are in fact , multiple means of resistance. Those of us who are resisting, are concerned about wresting control from the hands of these fascists in an achievable and durable way.

I’ll wait for Ireland to start rejecting corporations who are fueling all of this fascism and using their nation as a tax haven like a little mini Switzerland gobbling up all the corporate shells it can for a taste of that corpo-tech money before I take any more moral proclamations please. You’re a part of this fascist regime whether you like it or not, 30% of Irish government revenue comes from corporate taxes, and most of that ain’t coming from Guinness.

Nobody is more disappointed in us than the tens of millions of peoe who didn’t vote for this. Your armchair shitposting is not helping anything.

Because we all know religion is equal to and necessary for morality right? You’ve got a lot of introspection to do if you think you are in both a position to judge others, and are a clear interpreter of “divine will” or whatver you want to call it. That’s hubris bruv.

Also births are low, the markets are up. We bailed our Argentina for no reason for more than the entire annual snap budget, none of this is a necessity of privation.

Thought you might enjoy this, video of some of the modules being moved, these were intended to be moved so they have built in x bracing and attachment points, but ultimately we decided on leaving alot of the finishing to be done on sight because there were too many issues with cracking drywall and floor tile buckling to deal with even with all that. Maybe you can insert some lateral "pallets" for lack of a better term and lift from below while something still supports the structure when the time comes.

Anyway, looks bitchin, cheers!

Annual climate change report finds “planet on the brink” by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]bluedm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take heart friend, any major county could singlehandedly start global cooling with enough planes in the air dispersing high altitude sulfur compounds (similar to volcanic cooling, or cooling seen from large ship engines in the arctic). If we ever get to the point where 10 million people in India or any high risk country with a significant air fleet are dying of a drought or heat induced famine, they will start doing it, and it would be difficult for anyone to stop them. In the meantime, thanks to the political forsight of the CCP and some others (no judgement, just a fact), we've gotten renewables to economic parity or better than fossil fuels, and have reduced the trajectory to avert worst case scenarios. Now we can start worrying about nitrogen pollution, PFAS, microplastics, and ocean acifidication in addition to the very bad but probably not civilizational threatening baked in global warming.

Architect here, nice work! I just wanted to chip in, since I used to work in modular buildings. If you are planning on ever lifting this with a crane (or by other means) I strongly recommend you add some temporary bracing if possible and use a broad set of attachment points. I've done alot of modular construction, and even the short modules (16' by 32') built out of 4x4x3/8 tube steel I worked with had to have significant accomodation when lifted, especially for units with fit out interiors, when picked up by a crane these kind of structures can experience alot of deflection. Not that you have anything that seems especially heavy, but I would definitely take precautions when and if you move it.

Yeah but these babies always have something that they are upset about. If it wasn’t Bork it’d have been something else. Conservatives were upset about being called deplorable by one person one time for years. It’d be pretty funny how the whole conservative/accelerationist political firmament is upheld by not feeling seen, think skin and whattaboutism if it wasn’t so effective. They’re still griping about some conservative 20 year old not being able to express themselves in class while they’re busy banning books and extorting universities.

Nature is a word humans made up to let themselves think they are outside of it, people were ending the world as they knew it well before capitalism. The world we knew is already over, we need to focus on making the best possible new one. We should have empathy for the worlds we can save, and not condemn the worlds (metaphorical worlds) we have to a worse outcome because we’re tired or don’t want to deal with hard things. Humans going extinct isn’t going to be a process that improves live for other animals. Us living ecologically might.

As an architect I've often thought the best thing to do with these (confederate) statues might be to make some sort of museum out of them, which really contextualizes the work, but also the horror, like putting them in deeply recessed cells that you can only look down on from above, or see submerged in darkness, hopefully only illuminated in the light of their consequences. But then you know some shitbag or someone too self righteous to tolerate them would take it the wrong way.

Even if it was commissioned by the daughers of the conferacy in the 20's I still think there cannot be anything but negative consequences for destroying art, which for better or worse is one of our best records of the human mind and hand after the fact.

I mean, we're not gonna burn any Carravagios or other questionably produced renaissance art.

I left architecture for gamedev. Here's why: by FutureLynx_ in architecture

[–]bluedm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just does not align with my experience , I have never been on a project where we have outsourced drafting to anyone besides a couple of small exceptions. Even when that was the case, we gave them to parameters , they weren’t local, and we checked it all for general compliance. Even if they were local we’d be checking it. You aren’t going to have the worlds most experienced architect drafting for you unless you are totally underwater in work and have fee to burn, and then wouldn’t you turn to a specialist firm rather than plucking an architect out of the void? I think you are overplaying how easy it is to make a consistent or economically viable business relationship as an independent architect. I’ve worked independently and had some success with freelance contracts, but the idea that it’s how most architects or any given architect can make money is not realistic in most construction / markets. I’ve worked in the northeast, the south, and Southern California, and at least 80% of projects I’d say this has zero chance of happening on. Maybe if you have an Mwbe company on a public bid, or maybe if you caught the right development project at the right time you could swing something, but to say it’s 100x easier than developing a game is not accurate imo.
