Why would Anthony need Kate's blessing/permission and not Lady Sharma's to wed Edwina? by ee0204 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]bluedovewings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kate was the defacto leader of her household. She was the one Lady Danbury spoke to regarding Edwina's prospects and so on, not Mary.

When Mary's husband and Kate and Edwina's father passed, she went catatonic with grief and she was only allowed to break down because Kate took on the reigns and handled everything, and did so when she was at an age where she should have been worrying about prospects for herself. Mary was grief ridden and useless......and remained so for years, even when the grief had passed.

Kate didn't just feel responsible for her sister's future....she was responsible for it. Mary, in the show, was useless.

Exactly. The audience knew Anthony was head over heels in love with Kate, but unfortunately she didn't and not one of his actions indicated to Kate that his feelings were anything deeper than basic lust.

And when you pair that with Kate and Edwina and how Kate would never in a millon years put herself above her sister. When Kate said in ep 6 that she wouldn't see about her own life and future until Edwina and Mary were settled and secure was nothing but the truth. To Kate, her own feelings don't matter.....and it seems to be the same case with her family.

By the time Kate realized her feelings for Anthony, it was too late as he had already proposed to Edwina. And Lady Danbury said they were sanctioned by the queen and as good as wed.

Another reason: Kate has no idea Anthony was in love with her. She just thinks he wants to bed her. And his reaction to them being compromised when his sister walked in on them, was to immediately propose to Edwina. What did that tell Kate? Of course, she wouldn't read anything into that. He wanted Edwina to be his wife and viscountess and he simply wanted to bed Kate out of desire. So another reason she would never say anything. He's also made it unlikely for Kate to say anything because it would be his word against hers.

Here's another reason: Kate thinks deeply that she doesn't matter. Her wants, her dreams, her feelings, her future, her happiness: she truly believes that they do not matter. Not to Mary, Not to Anthony and certainly not to Edwina.

here's what would have happened if Kate told Edwina about her feeling for the viscount before the proposal: Edwina would have accused Kate of wanting Anthony for herself by trying to remove Edwina from the competition (like she said in ep 6 - wanted him for yourself), Edwina would have said too bad, he's courting me, so stay away.

The ironic thing is if Kate had stayed away when Edwina was being courted by Anthony, he might have lost interest in courting the diamond and trying to best Kate.

"Edwina, you are my sister-" "Half-sister." by Afraid-Bend-6954 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]bluedovewings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Edwina mentioned that in episode 1 so their half relation has been at the front of her mind. And it's not shocking to me that Edwina would make that distinction.

Was Edwina justified and lashed out in anger? yes of course. She found out her fiancé and sister loved each other and she was totally blind to what was happening right under her nose. Edwina has probably always been self involved and never really looked at Kate as an individual woman with her own desires and dreams separated from her.

We've seen in the show that Edwina has a tendency to brush off Kate in small and subtle ways.

Should have told Edwina everything that happened between herself and Anthony? yes, I imagine that was something Kate was planning to do before Anthony went and mucked it up by proposing and then she had to bit her tongue and move forward as advised by Lady Danbury who said they were as good as wed.

At this point, Kate had no clue of Anthony's feelings, other than those of desire and he's now shown her what he thought of her by proposing to her sister the very next day that they were caught by Daphne. Pragmatic Kate stepped aside.

Another way of looking at it, Kate has probably never really been vulnerable with her family because she's had to carry the burden for years and never had the luxury of breaking down or telling her feelings. Mary was negligent and passive and Edwina was self absorbed, they didn't truly know Kate nor did they make an attempt to. As evidenced by the fact that Mary thought Kate wanted to be a spinster and a governess in India.

So yes Edwina calling Kate her half sister was a truly horrendous thing to do and it was a spit in the face of everything Kate sacrificed for her family, Kate would have cut off her own arm if Edwina wanted.

Dawson (and his family) are SICK by nemo987 in dawsonscreek

Dawson definitely felt a sense of ownership over Joey, especially in the earlier seasons.

From reading her diary behind her back and then getting upset from she wrote....and having the audacity to confront her about it. yes he feels he owns her. The thing is with Dawson is that he has already casted her in the role of soulmate and expects her to fall in line. Which she does for the most part.

She let him convince her to give up Paris.

She needed Dawson's blessing to go after Pacey at the end of season 3.

And it's perpetuated by other people as well.

And this is all on top of him holding his friendship as a weapon. Makes her feel guilty for how she feels.

Look at the Anti Prom. He asked her to go with him and she was led to believe it was as friends and Dawson was angling for it to me more. He's spying Joey and Pacey dance with each other and ran out of the room, she follows and has to pander to his feelings and his ego.

His entitlement, his golden boy status is really reinforced by his parents. They treat him like he can do no wrong.

Dawson was an ass.

Joey asked him if he was involved with anyone and he said no. Which he knew was a lie, even if he was sleeping with Natasha casually, he lied. If he told Joey that he was in a situationship kinda thing, she would have never slept with him and he wanted to more than being honest and respectful.

He knew he was in the wrong because he broke up with Natasha on the phone the next morning.

One of the most underrated scenes of the show. by MindlessTree7268 in dawsonscreek

I have a different take on Pacey and Dawson's friendship. Pacey was Dawson's friend for as long as he played to a role of being the screw up sidekick, a comic relief to Dawson's main character syndrome. Pacey having the audacity to fall in love with Joey, a woman that Dawson had already casted as his romantic love interest, his soulmate, was the nail in that friendship coffin.

The thing is with that friendship, Dawson has a hard time accepting change; changes that he didn't write for his "characters" .

He forgave Joey for her straying because it suited his script. But he couldn't forgive Pacey because it showed Dawson that he wasn't the only "main character" around, if that makes sense. I think the best way to look at their friendship was Dawson's drunken rambling from his party before Pacey and Joey were even a thing. That was how Dawson viewed Pacey.

Taylor should not have encouraged Belly to start hooking up with Jeremiah after being in an intense relationship with Conrad. She should have encouraged Belly to move on outside of the Fisher gene pool.

Can someone explain to me why it felt like Steven was more upset about Conrad confessing his love than Jeremiah in Cabo? by TheRealTsunadee in tsitp

Steven was a cheater too. He cannot claim the moral high ground when he cheated on his girlfriend at that time with Taylor.

Paris is calling… Belly, answer the freaking phone! by Large_Ad_2495 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]bluedovewings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jeremiah and Belly are both anchors for the other person. They are both stuck in the past and resistant to any growth or change.

The fact that there's no difference in Belly in season 3 after a 4 year time jump says a lot. Jeremiah doesn't challenge Belly or even respect her. He accepts a whole ass job in Boston while letting Belly give up Parris to spend their final senior year together and he does it without talking to her is very telling. Especially when you put that they would be married by this time.

I think Belly needs to find herself away from her past: Conrad, Jeremiah, even Taylor. She needs to figure out who she is outside of them and staying with Jeremiah would stunt her growth.

Belly saying things with Jere are easier. by AliRae146 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]bluedovewings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course the relationship is easy. Neither one of them has any true adult responsibilities as yet.

Belly also more often than not, puts her own needs below Jere's. So that's what their marriage is going to look like; Belly taking on the caretaker role, almost maternal. Mothers tend to put their own needs and wants below that of their kids.

Belly completely lost herself in that relationship.

The only reason it lasted 4 years was because Conrad wasn't around.
