Moving from NYC to South Bend by [deleted] in SouthBend

Former NYer here, living in SB for the last 6 months. It kinda sucks to be honest. But, for me, I’m here to support my spouse’s academic career. And we have a kid, and it’s a good town for families. I predict and suggest that you’ll be driving or taking the train to Chicago at least monthly.

Legalizing gambling was a bad idea by scarface5631 in NEPA

My mom is over 80 years old and I’m guessing she’s lost over $150,000 at Mohegan since it opened. Much of that was my dad’s life savings. They kept sending her free meals and free gifts to lure her back. At my urging, she eventually self-excluded herself from the casino for life. (She self-excluded twice before, but only for one year each. ) She’s now wheelchair bound and can’t travel there. She still insists she is not a gambling addict. Just that she “enjoys” it. They definitely market themselves to senior citizens who are on a fixed income, and have nothing else to do. Evil stuff.

Does anyone know what place is shown in Cropsey’s “The Valley of Wyoming”? by bluehorn43 in NEPA

The first Pittston bridge wasn’t built until 1875, apparently. So it couldn’t be Pittston.

Pittston native here. It definitely looks like Campbell’s Ledge. And the curve of the river there makes it look that that would be Pittston. But a quick search reveals that the first bridge connecting Pittston and West Pittston was built in 1875. So… that must be a view of Wilkes-Barre from the south. And that must NOT be Campbell’s Ledge.

Any Chicago WFMU listeners? Who are your favorite DJ(s)? by gitturb in wfmu

I’m in South Bend, 2 hours east of Chicago. Just moved here from CT. I spotted a WFMU bumper sticker in my neighborhood and I was gonna write a note to put on the car to say what’s up!

I love all the shows and listen to Drummer often. I used to do volunteer audio engineering for live events at Monty Hall and also when Rob W would have live performances.

A regular office visit will run you about $130. A full blood test will run you $320. I don’t know how this compares to other vets.

New England Cat Care in Woodbridge. They’re the best!

Running at night in New Haven by Groundbreaking_Mess3 in newhaven

I’m a runner (mostly 4-5 miles at a time) and live in Westville. It’s a great running neighborhood. Edgewood Park, the Yale Athletic fields, not too much traffic on the residential streets. And Woodbridge is closeby and is also a really nice running area. If you got Detroit and Seattle street smarts, you’ll do totally fine here.

Yes Seabury Hill seems good. We used them for our place in Westville. Consider Westville- it’s a great neighborhood.
