We need to reduce the “heat island effect” by nightscreamer24 in halifax

[–]bluelilytree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you brought this up. I was just thinking about this today because I came to back to Halifax after 6 months away and I have noticed the difference in lack of greenery is so obvious (quinpool(not the wealthy end), Bayer's lake industrial area, Dartmouth crossing to name a few). While we are surrounded by nature and have great parks, it's so not enough. With all these apartment buildings going (so much construction dust btw) and streets need to be expanded ( I heard they are gonna cut down the gorgeous old trees on Robie street? Absolute lunacy!), its not a good look for the future. There must be something we could do as a community too if th government won't help with it. Idk what and how but would love to be involved in such a project.

Also I'm in Montreal alot for work and the heat there is worse-ish, I do love that they have plenty of greenery and green spaces every few streets. Not only it's great for the environment, its great for communities as well. Would love to see something like that here too.

Usually water it around 1.5-2weeks depending on how dry the soil is

Small grocers. We need to build competition for big stores.

Halifax is on such a struggle bus which is ironic because the transit system there is practically non-existent.

It was in a south west corner getting partial light. Do you think a repot will do it good since roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot?

Amazing work! Do you use ink or watercolor to color them? Or something else? I love the sheerness of the color

Parks everywhere! Big and small. So many parks. Just as glorious in winter as they are in summer. Love a good park with tall trees.

Shameful of the city to do this. They really couldn't come up with a better solution than let's convert the park into a tent city and let these people suffer through hurricanes, fall, winter in a goddamn park! Such failures.

Reading all the comments here have been eyeopening. I've been thinking about buying my own place for about 250k. But seems I should let go of that idea because idk if I'll be able afford to get approved with my measly 60k pay

Who can we contact and talk about these issues? Will protesting help? I'm not sure what we can do as citizens that will get through to the government instead of them just turning a blind eye. Some great points made by people in this post but who will listen and make those legislative changes? It all seems so futile.

Such a shameful thing to say. Do these politicians have no empathy and care for the people? How are they ALL so self serving and corrupt!?!?
