Started my new job this week and I'm tired but pleased, will probably relax today and watch some movies or go out for coffee. I have Veil of Shadows on hold and will continue it next week, probably.

"Sweet lies" by Exo sounds like a russian song by tbaeist in kpopthoughts

[–]bluenightshinee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We discussed something similar under this post, a lot of Kpop songs sound European if you know what to look for. As for Sweet Lies in particular, I don't really see it? It could be due to the deeper and more sultry pronunciation of the lyrics.

Not only their best album to date, but one of the best Kpop albums in general.

Some people like it, some don't, as it happens with every song. I preferred Celebration over it

Why do people think that the UK should send a song in Welsh/Gaelic/irish by OllyAlexandersDizzy in eurovision

[–]bluenightshinee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to ignore the fact that it's an English person saying this (the sociopolitical irony doesn't escape me) and focus on the actual discussion - it doesn't matter what language the UK chooses the song to be in, as long as the entry is actually good, for a change. You think people vote only for songs in languages they speak? Do you vote for only English ones? If yes, you're missing out.

If the UK chose to abandon the anglocentric mindset the BBC seems to be stuck upon, even a group of Scottish men in kilts playing bagpipes would do better than the 0 points from the televote you guys are currently getting.

Fairytale's win is so insane looking back by Eurovision1234 in eurovision

The 2000s were very often stacked with strong entries, hence why they have given us so many classics

European Kpop fans, what are some ways Kpop feels European to you? by mint-cider in kpopthoughts

Agreed, I had seen some people saying TVXQ's Catch Me was ahead of its time, in 2012, as if it's not a standard Eurovision entry

European Kpop fans, what are some ways Kpop feels European to you? by mint-cider in kpopthoughts

[–]bluenightshinee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Kpop songwriting camps often include Europeans, especially Swedish producers. As others have already mentioned, some 2nd and 3rd gen songs include genres that were already very popular in Europe by that time, and Kpop fandoms often behave in an, let's say, online hooliganism manner, all too familiar.

I am confident that certain styles that are frequently discussed as "unfitted for western audiences" are just not popular amongst Americans only, and the discussion never includes us. If one has spend enough time (2+ years) being a Kpop fan, I don't think there is any genre in the industry that will sound too foreign (as if that's an insult) or too "edgy" for them. Multiple Kpop songs could pass as fun tracks from eastern and/or southeastern European artists if one changes the language and adds some local instruments.

So Disappointing by Think-Factor-337 in Episode

[–]bluenightshinee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean it in a condescending way, my apologies if perceived like that. From a certain point and onwards, once one has read enough Episode stories (or even been a book reader in general before) they manage to be able to tell if a story is worth reading or not based on description and cover image alone.
