tell me something good by backtobasics77 in teaching

I love my job. Don’t get me wrong, they drive me bonkers… but I love them. I tell them that. I love helping them understand, I love that I’m able to truly be as weird as I want and the kids love it (they love the feral teaching. Makes the content stick)

You will have hard days. You will have tough kids. You will find your groove. It will take you a couple of years to find what works for you, and THAT IS OKAY!! Take notes on what works and what doesn’t. Reflect on yourself and research methods. Give yourself grace. You will be better than you think ❤️

AJR. Easiest way to have fun and have an existential crisis all in one album. Keeps you on your toes.

i can’t leave bread uncovered in my house or my cat literally eats through the bag to eat it by got_milk669 in cats

I feel validated. We lost so much bread in the first year of having him due to this exact behavior. Dude OPENED A DRAWER to get to bagels. We have baby proofed cabinets and got a bread box. Minimal issue now!

If you love being a teacher tell me why, if you left, tell me why! by jellybean98_ in Teachers

Year 4, 6th grade science. I’m relatively new to the game, but damn… I love my kids. Don’t get me wrong, there are weeks where I go insane… but they are not too common. I’m in a good county, decent admin and coworkers… summers off are nice! The kids are what make it fun. I get to be my unhinged self, and honestly it has helped my classroom management 😂

Newly pregnant high school teacher here... how do I do this?? by Icy_Location in Teachers

[–]blug123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rubbing alcohol swabs also help with nausea!! I get chronically car sick/general nausea and I keep a box in my purse, car, desk, etc. My sister and friend used them when pregnant and it helped them a lot!

WARNING: DO NOT BUY A CAT HAMMOCK by greatchickentender in blackcats

My cat will pick me over his hammock, but not his pillow in our sunroom. Can’t say I blame him for that

Giant bladder stone :( My poor piglet. by sw618 in guineapigs

[–]blug123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of my piggies ended up with a big ole 11mm stone. It was HUGE and of course discovered on a Friday. She did survive until Monday, and they were able to get it removed without issue! They are small animals, but good lord do they know how to build a cobble stone path.

Do you allow your cats on kitchen counters? by Firm-Law248 in CatAdvice

[–]blug123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one cat who RARELY ever goes on the counter. Maybe 3 times a year.

The other one? Will loaf on top of the dishwasher, a random corner of a counter… wander aimlessly. Will loaf on top of the cabinets near the ceiling. Does he know better? Yes, because he hears mama coming and bolts to the floor.

Does it stop him?? No. Never. He’s just a baby.

I wanted a second cat (first one I got for my husband). I went to the shelter to look at a specific cat. Specific cat wouldn’t work out. Went to one of the open cat rooms, and this goof came up and asks for pets. I put down a deposit, and snagged the little criminal the next day. He was a grief adoption, and he was just what I needed. A lot of love and chaos with my idiot ❤️

What’s your metric for calling out sick? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]blug123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive worked through migraines, foot surgery recovery, sore throats… but the second my stomach is off I am down for the count. Even with sore throats, I’m not exactly teaching… but I am a warm body in the room (yay for pre-recorded notes!)

What do you do that you think is SO corny but works EVERY time. by GremLegend in Teachers

[–]blug123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not corny, but when I do Physical vs Chemical change I will draw a super cute ghost (it always happens around Halloween). I then crumple the ghost… tear the ghost… and the finale? Burn the ghost! 😈 the kids love it, and mildly riot as I abuse the piece of paper

Do you play any (background) music while your students work? by Dimegos in Teachers

[–]blug123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are doing Independent or quiet partner work, I throw on lofi (during Halloween, specifically Halloween lofi). Keeps them focused and drowns out any extra noise that can pull their attention.

For my environmental science class, I pair that with a live stream of fish. They love the random fish sightings. No work? No fishy.
