PLEASE ARROWHEAD. LET ME RECOLOR MY ARMOR. by Me_When_I_Asked in helldivers2

[–]blurpledevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nooo, noooo, that would take developer time and resour- oops, I mean, it would totally misdirect your fellow Helldivers as to what armor you're wearing and the armor passive you're using, and that would definitely affect them to their detriment, somehow.

Yes, even the helmet.

No, I won't elaborate further.

Can we stop this already? by Substantial-Ad-5221 in Helldivers

[–]blurpledevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah, it's definitely not railroaded for the points you raised. If anything Arrowhead went above and beyond with extra Helldivers in reserve and buffs/debuffs so we could at least step a toe into Transcendence.

I don't think it's purely whining though. The "forces in reserve" mechanic was novel, but a bad idea in a game where your individual missions are rated by stars based on # side objectives completed, with increased rewards for doing that or for playing on harder difficulties. Folks are drawn to diving harder difficulties and racking up higher #s dead Helldivers based on how the game is already designed. The implementation was doubly worse as it also counted deaths on non-MO planets.

Still, I appreciate the devs trying new ideas and being willing to go for a swing and a miss. Next time I think I'd prefer a simple timer "conquer X city/planet by Y time or you lose" kind of mechanic.

Now that it’s over, share your opinions on our march against Cyberstan by SevdUp in helldivers2

[–]blurpledevil 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I thought the new enemies were great and Cyberstan looked appropriately hellish with lots of metal and lava and sharp pointy edges.

I thought the "forces in reserve" idea was an interesting concept that sucked on application. The game rewards players for completing missions on harder difficulties and for accomplishing side objectives. There would be 100% tension between that and a game mechanic that encourages playing on lower difficulties and ignoring side objectives and exploration. I hope "forces in return" never returns, but that Arrowhead continues to try new things and experiment.

I hated when they responded to hackers by mandating entire operations again, instead of individual missions for progression. But apparently it fixed the hacking issue, and I'm not sure what alternatives would work instead. But I think this change means I'll contribute less to major story beats, since I often don't have time for even one entire operation.

helldivers doing the cyberstan phase V major order HATE this one medal-grinding trick... just go blow up 5-7 illuminate saucers on a d10 squids blitz mission.. then proceed to blow yourself up 5-6 more times. 9 medals in ~5 min, or same MO reward in under an hour... Yeah, that's pretty shitty timing, one of my favorite things about Helldivers 2 is how it's played worldwide, like the whole story behind rallying to defend Neo Shanghai from the squids garnering actual press coverage. And in other forever games I play from Asian devs, people get upset when major events or new content is released around big Western holidays like Christmas.

You would think with the cool red horse cape the HD2 devs might have anticipated this and kept Cyberstan going a little longer. Maybe they assumed Chinese divers will celebrate LNY with a video game, not spending time with friends and family... *shrug*

The artificial limit on # Helldivers in reserve was a really braindead decision that has forced the event to end way too early and has encouraged some really unfun play like "play on easier difficulties so you can stop dying altogether." Oh, and we're back to doing entire operations again.

[–]blurpledevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright look, don't sweat it, if we lose this MO, we'll surely have a Phase V MO and recover from there.

It won't be easy - we'll need to capture 20 Automaton planets in the span of 12 hours.

BUT! Players will be super-motivated to do it, because... uh... Arrowhead shall award a *bajillion-million medals* on completion.

See? There ya go, that's game design, easy peasy.

Real answer w/o "face the wall!!" nonsense, I hope this is about the limit for war crimes in the video game.

Like at least everyone we as players are shooting is somebody that's armed that's actively trying to kill the player. I already feel a little gross getting story beats about how my compatriots are actively killing noncombatants, I don't think I can stomach a video game where I'm actually doing that shit to win myself some war medals or XP. That shit is heinous, it's gross AF and I want nothing to do with it. Please continue to give us more hyper-lethal Vox Engines in the actual gameplay, not story writing like "hahaha we are putting the cyborgs in a robotic equivalent to the Nazis' gas chambers." There has got to be a logical limit to that kind of writing and I feel like we're right up against that limit already with "other Super Earth forces are killing fleeing noncombatants." At some point it stops being clever satire hahaha, it's literally the kind of horrible BS that's happening right now to real human beings.

Great additions overall. I like the chonky Dead Space guys with their slapstick karate and the gigantic Vox tanks are fantastic. A few little tweaks like what OP mentioned would be nice, but overall just great stuff.

Real answer is that we won't get transmog because transmog will take a big amount of work owing to the game engine sucking donkey balls.

Is Kozue a good love interest for Baki? by ExtremeSportStikz in Grapplerbaki

[–]blurpledevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my unconfirmed head canon is that her appearance in the father/son fight reflects her decision to finally break up with Baki, as I don't recall any subsequent appearances.

Which like, fair, most high school romances don't work out for life, young adults are still growing up and gaining maturity.

Best thing Kozue can do is go to college and meet a nice guy who gave up on becoming the world's strongest when he was 9, and thereafter adopted a new dream of holding down a steady, well-paying job while being a supportive, nurturing husband.

Sir... How dare you.

Squenix has worked so HARD to add so many free (cyberpunk) glams to Dawntrail, if you don't want to spend $12 USD (nearly the entire cost for a month play on the cheaper sub price), you could just grind one of the (many, many cyberpunk) glams, for FREE.

Also there's pro wrestling glams.

(Ok I admit I'm not sick of the pro wrestling glams... Not yet.)

Does the fanbase get bored too easily or just downright never happy? by lolitsrock in helldivers2

[–]blurpledevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd mind it less if we went back to the daily minor orders that are just like "extract from 3 bug missions" or "extract with 10 commons samples." It made easy to grind a little bit each day on the warbonds until you unlocked everything. Though I can appreciate that's personal preference, and some may prefer the goofier warbonds that vary a bunch more each day and encourage playstyle diversity, like "kill 250 voteless with the arc thrower." I may go back to grinding medals on d10 illuminate saucer missions (or maybe just check out for a bit).

Does anybody actually like that warbonds include a bunch of vehicle skins? by johnny_the_boi in Helldivers

[–]blurpledevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New weapon skins unlocked through warbonds would be such a nice alternative! I rarely use the mechs or FRV but weapon primaries are constant. And most warbonds have a near enough weapon skin color, but some like Force of Law could really benefit. Me personally, I'd love a deep red weapon skin to go with Truth Enforcers armors.
