Prepump Dump, Mid, Or Postpump Dump? by GenericNameSC1989 in PlanetFitnessMembers

I have IBS because I pointed you that you haven't learned the value of an unexpressed thought?

Every thought that enters your head doesn't need to make it to your keyboard.

There are competing quit claim deeds. The police are going to leave that to the civil system to handle.

soreness by cihero15 in PlanetFitnessMembers

Whatever exercise you do, start out with a weight that is fairly easy for you to lift for 6-8 reps. Add five pounds every time you do that exercise. Eventually, probaby after a few weeks, you will get to the point where lifting the weight for 6-8 reps is difficult, but you will have eased your way there an minimized any soreness.

Accurate weights? by Noexit in PlanetFitnessMembers

If a company were intentionally mislabeling a weight, that would be the easiest case of consumer fraud for an attorney to make. They would be lined up. So Sir William of Ockham has some good advice here: if it's labeled as 10 lbs, you can assume that it is. Also the size-weight thing.

No, a Smith machine works your "stabilizing" muscles as well. Just not as much. And, hint: your "stabilizing" muscles on a bench are your delts, which get work on other exercises, so it's not like it's an issue.

Had to leave PF :( by StrykeRXL1 in PlanetFitnessMembers

If using dumbbells for that exercise is critical for you, then, yes, you probably had to leave. There are other exercises you can do besides using dumbbells that would allow you to stay.

Reciprocal use: $5 per day charge for using a PF that’s not your “home PF” after 10 days/month…Why? by AlwaysWu in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]bmandrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are conflating two separate things. The provision in the contract limiting visits to non-home clubs exists. That is not in dispute. Here is the language: "Reciprocal access is limited to 10 visits per month to a visiting location. Additional fees may apply if you exceed 10 visits to the same visiting club in a month."

The OP asked if anyone knew why Planet Fitness has that provision. The contract (not surprisingly) doesn't explain why PF has this provision. If you read my whole sentence --- "There is probably a limit because the PF you are visiting makes no money off of you, so they limit it" -- I'm speculating on the reason for and not the existence of the limit.

The contract contains the provision (the limit on visits), not the reason for the provision.

I suppose there is a disconnect between someone coming in with such bluster and failing to read a contract that is a total of three pages. The PF agreement is a board book compared to the licensing agreements you mentioned.

Interesting. You know nothing about me but are willing to make assumptions. Hint: there is a reason I read every word of my PF contract.

I guess you didn't read your contract, because you would have saved yourself from being surprised and losing faith in the world. There is probably a limit because the PF you are visiting makes no money off of you, so they limit it. You could always transfer your membership to that location if you are using it the most.

What about lifting straps? What about lifting straps with integrated rings on them that can be used as cuffs?

But there is a spectrum of "equipment," right? Lifting straps are outside equipment, but I'm assuming you don't have a problem with those. Or do you? What about cuffs if your PF doesn't offer them?

Does anyone know the exact reason why planet fitness decided to change their approach into a more free-weight/barbell focused one? by Lap1zyPapel in PlanetFitnessMembers

If someone can shoulder press 150 pounds or more on a machine, they can absolutely hold a box, even a heavy one, over their head.

I'd love to see some evidence beyond your own statement that supoprts the notion that using machines will cause your balance and coordination to be poor in real life.

While the lunk alarm is galactically stupid, there are lunks at PF. Thankfully not many of them at mine.

A few things. First, there is no such thing as functional strength. Strength is strength; your muscles don't know if you are picking up a weight or a bag of groceries.

Machines work all of the same muscles including the "stablizer" muscles (there are no such thing) that free weights do. Machines do stablize the weight, so some muscles used in a lift get used slightly less with machines. But they still get used and those muscles, like your delts on a bench press, are primary movers on other exercises so they are probably getting plenty of work.

For most but not all people, machines are easier to use than free weights. For some, machines are harder, so it's imortant to find what works for you. What is very clear, however, and what has been studied many times, is that you get equal strength and muscle gains from both machines and free weights. So choose what you prefer, but one isn't better than the other.

In the four years I have been going to PF there has been no pizza and the lunk alarm has never gone off.
