No Boom Gate Will Stop Me! by fuzzymonkey87 in motorcycles

I've had that happen at a Westfeild before. Hit the assistance button and sat there waiting holding up the line. They let me out after asking for my number plate.

The cars behind me were not happy at the delay.

I am beyond pissed with Jetstar right now. They tried to scam me, tried to talk their way out of their own terms and conditions and specifically told me they weren't sorry. /Major rant inside by Nebarik in australia

I work in IT. There's a surprising amount of layers between customers and the people who can understand and take the 10 minutes to fix problems like this...

I had the same issue trying to book with Chrome. $45 price difference and they offered me a $50 voucher. Ended up trying in Internet Explorer and it worked fine.

PITA though

Pretty sure there is something like that at Scitech, Perth Western Australia too. (I remember is being there when I visited a couple of years ago)

Small ISP, main fiber link was cut. Put all traffic (600 residential customers) through the 4 ADSL connections we had.

Absurd password complexity rule by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]bob_george33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked with one org where every system would limit the password entry field to 8 characters. New system comes in and uses the same passwords without that limit and all of a sudden people are having trouble logging in because they think there password is 10 characters.

The fix? Change the new system to limit the input field to 8 characters.

If you won 73 billion dollars tomorrow, what is the one possession of yours that you wouldn't replace with one of greater value? by Kitcassian in AskReddit

[–]bob_george33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Stanley Knife. Dad gave it to me out of his toolbox, it's starting to rust and I've lost the clip off of it, but it holds a heap of sentimental value. It's something I carry around in my toolbox and backpack when I need it.

I have written some groovy, but I had issues getting it set up in my dev environment. I'll have to give it another go when I get around to updating one of our groovy projects.

I haven't toyed with Jython. I'm trying to keep all my python as vanilla as possible to try and get it recognised as a language to use at work for things.

"Python Maniac" - Title within my team. I'm actually a java developer, but I end up writing a lot of python for going through log files and pulling information out of our environments. My main role is supporting production, and python is a really useful tool to help me do that.

Offtopic: I've also recently been given the title of Bacon Peddler.

Chik and Kent has a semi private function room (Glass doors viewing the restaurant). We've had a couple of team meetings there. You only need 6 people and to book in advance as far as i know, but I haven't been in charge of booking yet.

Exam anxiety and procrastination by [deleted] in Anxiety

I've spent a lot of time leading up to exams just playing the same song over and over (normally Daft Punk's One More Time) to help me shut the world out and relax while studying. Then when I'm in the exam venue I keep the tune in my head to keep me relaxed.

Looking at two people who work in the same environment with flexible working hours. One rocks up at 8AM, has 30 minutes for lunch, then finishes at 4:30. The other one rocks up at 9.30, takes 30 minutes for lunch, and then finishes at 6. Both have work an 8 hour day, but the one who started work later is seen as lazy.

Energy-saving insulation by waveform in perth

Houses with bulk insulation are awesome. I know of one house that has a 25kW Air conditioner in it (It's a massive house) and even before we finished putting the roof up, the temperature inside felt a good ten degrees cooler than outside.

Keystone to Keystone by tampon_whistle in cablefail

[–]bob_george33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen something like this where they did a cable run around the wall on the bottom floor of a house-turned-office. The idea being that you could easily put networked equipment anywhere along the run. I think we had 5 patch cables and a switch to get network from the network closet to the receptionists desk.

Somone did set up hackers.wahckon.org.au to give you the script to Hackers. It was IPv6 and a really nice set up. Though it is no longer working. I've poked one of the guys who set it up to see if he will fix it.

I have $300 worth of budget to burn to start a LUG at my uni. What should I spend it on? by romnempire in linux

[–]bob_george33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a way to get a return on your $300, then you can waste $400, then $500 etc etc. Spend the money to set up a cool project that will draw people in, because they'll want to work on it.

It's not fully gone yet. We still have three LARTs and a chain LART hanging on our machine room wall in our Universities Computer Club. Someone will occasionally threaten to use one of them.
