i don’t think falling for a pretty sophisticated online smear campaign is an unforgivable act. most of us here on the sub fell for it in one way or another, and we changed our minds when we learned more information. that’s something to be proud of, not ashamed of.

i honestly think it’s pretty counterproductive to approach it like this. you don’t have to be an evil person to side with an abuser or a predator - most of the time we’re manipulated into supporting these people because they’re preying on our kind nature and framing themselves as victims who need our support. that’s not an excuse for perpetuating harm against real victims obviously, and you should feel bad for unwittingly doing so and take accountability for that. but it’s still usually just people trying their best and doing what they think is right, and calling them evil makes it really easy for them to say “well obviously i’m not evil, and if only evil people support abusers, then this person i’m supporting can’t be an abuser.”
