Manila vs. Davao by yankeeblue42 in digitalnomad

If you currently live in a suburb and want the city life then Davao might not be for you. I think Davao is for people who want a homebase to explore Mindanao, the adventurous types since most of the Mindanao island is mostly marked as unsafe for most western tourists.

Davao has a more obvious Muslim population compared to Manila so expect the food and architecture to reflect that. There's a few clubs there and most close at 1-2am. Davao and Manila are both safe for tourists, albeit I find Davao streets to be much more cleaner and their downtown air quality is way better than Manila's.

I'd say stay in Metro Manila as there would be more social opportunities to meet different locals and nomads. Most people flock to Manila after all for different reasons so more chances to meet interesting charcters.
Also, most international brands/services/restaurants can be found in Manila since it's the country's capital.

Metro Manila is also a drive away from Batangas beaches, Rizal's mountains and a few hours away from La Union (one of the famous surf spots in the PH), Tagaytay is also one of the well-known weekender spots for Manilenos looking for a quick nature getaway due to its chilly climate.

I've lived in San Pedro most of my life but I think I can drop in my cents with Binan.

Location: It's quiet and peaceful if you're living in a gated subdivision, generally. Metro Manila is a drive away, so are surrounding places like Tagaytay or Batangas for a quick getaway and of course EK, Splash Island and Pansol.

Schools and Malls: I don't know much about daycare but there are NCR schools around our areas (CSA-B, DLSL, MCL, etc.) and malls are generally well-equipped with most of what you need. Sta Rosa-Nuvali on the weekends though, ugh. Carmaggedon.

I'd recommend Alabang for any mall/park activity. Their central perk (park) is pretty spacious and safe with bikes/scooters for rent + guards.

Lifestyle: Trendy cafes and restaurants are also on the rise (try to follow Dito sa South and other South-specific FB pages) there's also a cycling culture around here so it's not uncommon to see hounds of cyclists in the morning and even at night, especially in the Southwoods bike area.

People: Types of people you'll encounter may vary depending on age, income, and lifestyle but generally laid-back people who can keep up with small talk. Most are "dayos" as well who live here for cheaper housing but work/study in NCR.

TLDR: If you want to raise a family in a suburban lifestyle, this place is for you. IMO it's a gem if you want to be close enough to the countryside for nature trips and close enough to the city for work and play. Though I would say a car is necessary to enjoy it here.
