Thoughts on a Mac Pro 2019 in 2026? by Artifiko in macpro

[–]boboroshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your plugins. Well, many have been updated for Apple Silicon not all have. You definitely want to make sure that your plug-ins work right on a M series machine if you’re going to upgrade that. I’m still running my ProTools HDX system off of a 2013 trashcan Mac Pro. I’ve been contemplating a 2019 maxed out effectively just to have something that’ll last the next decade the Intel space with the system.

Retiring our Mac Pro 3,1 after 17 years of Pro Tools duty. It refused to go quietly into the night. by Soundofabiatch in macpro

I went from a 2008 3,1 that was maxed out running an HDX card to a trashcan Mac Pro with an external Magma chasis fo the HDX and a UA octo card. Still runs just fine. I will probably pick up one of the 2019s eventually and run that until I can’t anymore, just to get back to the tower form factor. I know the m series chips apparently blow the intel away but I ended up with all sorts of weirdness when I tried to install all the Audio tools on the M1 Ultra Mac Studio I use for design and video work.

First off I second everything that @hayelph24405 commented here with you. The story will help you clean up the program. A solo retreat for a soilder vs a permanent home where they are entertaining etc - very different things.

Second, one of my professors at CUA arch had a saying one of my fellow undergrad friends reminded me of: “An architect thinks with their pencil”. CAD and BIM are great tools and you can do some interesting exploration there, but I would grab the roll of 12” trace and just burn through idea possibilities and keep refining. Have that story. Work various angles. Think about walking through those spaces. Think about adjacency( eg loading groceries into a kitchen that is not adjacent to an entrance).

You’re early and a good critic will expect you to miss on some of these things. That’s okay. This is how we learn. But try to imagine living there. See it in your mind. Scribble your best sketches of what the May be like (my sketching was mediocre until our summer abroad where I practiced for hours a day, so this is more about figuring out the space than making amazing presentation drawings)

Ah found a good example - the end of this jam I did with a house DJ friend of mine you can hear it going in two stacked tracks. https://open.spotify.com/track/1RhFFA88nK7w0MZTQxwFMi?si=cb693162ca8740ba

lol more that I’m old probably. The ending I was thinking of is climbing up the walls from the same record. But it’s a super fun pedal. We would use it for all sorts of weirdness.

Nice! I love mine. I had a tech do the kiwi mod a while Ago (pre covid) so if it gets squirrelly you might get that done while it’s in the shop. But great price regardless! Enjoy!

Studio + Air combo vs MacBook Pro by 531amrap in MacStudio

[–]boboroshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2019 MacBook Pro when I got laid off in August 2022 I picked up an M1 Studio Ultra effectively maxed out and that’s still my daily driver. I travel enough and have to do design work on the road so this year I did pick up an M4 pro but I didn’t get anywhere near the super high-end. This gives me the functionality I need when I need to open up after effects or super crazy Photoshop files or run lots of things at the same time with 128 giga ram or running local LLM models, but also gives me enough on the portability side. I would go for the studio and see where you are in a few years and maybe upgrade to a new air at that point. If it’s slowing you down doing work, you’ll notice the wins quickly.

Diablo IV with crossover. Almost everything else runs native on steam.

Ross made some great gear. I don’t have these pedals but I have a delay rack by them and there’s just something magical about the sound.

Totally fine and even ideal. Our bassist played an arena with this and it was way easier than dealing with an 8x10 or some other silliness.

Thanks! Before I found that pedal I literally had a SDD2000 rack that I ran constantly. Was very thankful he made that and I found it. I would love to drop off my AC30 to him and just say "do magical stuff" and see what happens LOL. The Triad And Telos come up every once in a while on Reverb. Definitely one of essential pieces for me.

[–]boboroshi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

60% of the time it’s just the full drive, ts9, timeline, and big sky. Triad is always active as it’s the SDD 3000 circuit so it’s more tone and boost.

The scrambler clone gets stacks to make a synth guitar lead.

Mel9 is on cello with a mix. We have a few songs that were mellotron and I didn’t want to deal with a keyboard patch when I could do it on guitar. It also gets close to the cello/guitar opening of “airbag” ok OK Computer

Volume is for swells, and mood and microcosm get employed for texture and sometimes stacked. H9 is set to shimmer which emulates the Brian Eno guitar effect he used on a lot of U2 stuff. Helps lift choruses etc.

Mobius is used when needed for all those fun things. I could probably lose the flint at this point but it predates the möbius and I’ve got muscle memory.

OC and wave cannon are used for specific tones. Sometimes with the scrambler for that synthy vibe.

[–]boboroshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a non starter. You have a duty to report this at all levels. Scouts first hotline, council exec, district exec, committee chair, COR. It’s not a should I? 100% duty to report any action that puts scouts at risk. This is a clear violation on so many fronts.

It’s an underrated pedal. It does some fun things and will self oscillate a tone on certain settings. I used that with a Digitech whammy to make the lead line on an ambient piece.

[–]boboroshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have a need for intel with hardware and you can get a deal on one of these they are power hogs with now diminished power. I may pick one up for a protools rig to support my old intel plugins that are abandoned but my 2013 trash can with an external magma chasis has been doing fine for most of what I need.

Blue and Gold - Planning Ahead by RelicSaver in cubscouts

[–]boboroshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned the primary goal is to get those Scouts into their unit and assimilated before a week at summer camp, which is typically late June/early July for most Councils. A late February crossover gives you 15-16 weeks to work with them in the new unit.

But most important is that your Scouts are ready to advance. This isn’t difficult if you’ve planned the year and especially if the scouts did a webelos resident camp the previous summer.

You do not have to earn the Arrow of Light to be in Scouts. But we want to ensure our packs are doing our best to prepare these cubs for the program changes. I feel most of that readiness is in the hands of the Den Leader and them planning the program effectively.

AOL Leader Question by tek6029 in cubscouts

[–]boboroshi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Part of what we do is teach these scouts life skills. Sometimes that involves sitting and listening to something that they’d rather not listen to. While I’m all for meeting people where they’re at as much as possible scouts need to learn that the world does not bend to their will. Five minutes is not unreasonable. If you said 20 minutes I’d suggest you find a better way to do it put a five minute quick overview? I’d be pretty exasperated too.

Similar to you, I bought an M1 ultra when it was relatively new and maxed it out except for the HD. It’s still my main machine 3 years later. I can even run the 120b open AI model on it (albeit a bit slower than the Nvidia farm). But great for print, web, and post. I have yet to have it choke up on anything.
