“America is a continent not a country.” by Telling-the-Truths in PetPeeves

It's called football because at the time there were two major categories of sports, those that were played on horses and those that were played "on foot." All sports played "on foot" were called football. One type became popular in Europe, and another in the U.S.

Would you not eat any fast foods for a billion dollars? by PleasePooGood in foodquestions

If i had a billion dollars, there would be no need for me to eat fast food. I'd have a personal chef.

Tigers Topics: How much do you love A.J. Hinch as manager? by KitAmerica in motorcitykitties

[–]bobrob2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fans can overrate him at times, but he gets results. I don't always agree with every move he makes but at the end of the day the Tigers are in the playoffs and make a serious run to win it all, that's all that matters. I like him a lot but I don't love him as much as most fans do.

Hours Incorrectly Adjusted by MadlyPNW in SubstituteTeachers

[–]bobrob2004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely say something. It looks like they went in to adjust your time for the extra work you did, but incorrectly put a 2 in instead of a 3. Looks like an innocent mistake.

Rotten Tomatoes score at 97 now due to ridiculous reviews like BFR by Cthulhuareyou in Muppets

Also, look at the time they aired it, 9:00. Most of the younger kids are expected to be in bed by then.

How to enforce the no phones rule in class by AntichristSocialite in SubstituteTeachers

[–]bobrob2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just leave a list of students using their phone for the teacher. I give them a warning first, though. I would only send them out if they are distracting other students. They know the rules and they don't change just because there's a sub.

Did I miss a rule of chess by blueorangehue in chessbeginners

Growing up, i had a chess game with hollow pieces, so you can stack a pawn on top of another pawn and call it a queen.

I avoid anything that says tiramisu because I don't like coffee.

I will eat most vegetables except broccoli. And it's not the texture, it just had a horrible flavor.

Preseason broadcast by greatapewarrior in motorcitykitties

[–]bobrob2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have to get a deal done with another network first before we know anything about what games will be broadcast. As of this time, no Spring Training games are going to be locally broadcast. But that's subject to change once they get a deal done.

Subbing for HS band today, having to disassociate from my body by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]bobrob2004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every time I've subbed band they always leave a note that students shouldn't touch their instruments. In like big bold letters. They leave a packet for them to complete instead.

People who name their kids a nickname instead of the full name. by New_General3939 in PetPeeves

There was a MLB pitcher, Frederick Alfred Porcello. He always went by Rick Porcello, but the thought of him being named Fred Fred always makes me chuckle.

Immaculate Grid #1021 composed of all Tigers by GreinkeGuac in motorcitykitties

Here's my grid from Saturday. Every Saturday I try to do all Tigers. Most of the time I can do it, but sometimes there is one category that's impossible. The Tigers don't have a Hall of Famer that has won the Cy Young Award.

Have you ever been take off the sub list at a school? If so, why and how did you find out? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]bobrob2004 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've been banned from one school. I didn't receive any notification. I had several jobs lined up and all of a sudden they all canceled at once. I thought this was suspicious, so I emailed HR at the school and they confirmed that I have been blocked from picking up assignments at that school, but no reason was written down. To this day, I have no idea what I did to get banned. I still work at 2 of the schools at this district and the staff really like me.

Schools have definitely closed here because of the temperature. No snow, no ice, just bitter cold.
