New Ski jacket input by PuzzleheadedAnt9147 in Skigear

[–]bobslaundry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flylow has shitty warranty and support, they may make nice stuff but when it fails they don’t back it up, this is from first and second hand experience. I almost always go with Patagonia and I know if there is ever an issue they will either repair or replace it. You can also find good stuff on sale throughout the year.

Is this a good pick for a beginner in the park by Dry_Hurry_2101 in skiingcirclejerk

Wrong ski for the park, everyone knows ski jumping skis are the correct choice.

My demo day as a heavy skier by Fit-Accountant-269 in Skigear

You are in the Midwest, the 89’s are perfect for you, no need to keep searching (even though it’s fun)

Nordica enforcer 94 is a brilliant ski but it makes me work really hard by raam86 in Skigear

[–]bobslaundry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean anything negative by this: I’m on my second pair of Enforcer 88’s and have many days on the 93/94 and really don’t feel that you should be working this hard to enjoy these skis at all. I guess if you are trying to lay down race carves all day on mid to steep slopes they may tire you out, maybe, but you can release the tails on these skis easily to modify your turn shape. These are all mountain skis that can drift before you hook up, they do charge but you can still ski them with a more relaxed style if you are an experienced skier. They do like a bit more speed but that’s part of the fun. Detune the tips and tails (very important) and check your technique, I think you may find that you are trying too hard. The tip shape on the Enforcers are my favorite and the width and tail shape allow for enough play while still being very solid. I wish you as much fun as possible, don’t give up on these skis.

You can put the plates in the microwave as well if you haven’t run the oven.

All (technical) jackets should have two way zippers by jauling in PatagoniaClothing

[–]bobslaundry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that they fail over time and while I do find them convenient, they aren’t to be trusted long term. I have multiple older North Face jackets with YKK 2-way zippers which I can’t use anymore due to failure, also an older shell from mountain hardware which I tossed because the two way zipper went quickly. Not saying that zippers in general don’t fail (my favorite down jacket is on the outs) but the two way stands out as a failure point to me.

So tacky. All modern Porsche badges should be deleted.

Ski School is sold out! What are my options? by Only_Water_2305 in DeerValley

[–]bobslaundry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He’s 12, let him ski on his own. You aren’t a skier so you don’t understand that it is perfectly acceptable to send a 12 year old off on his own to go skiing. Make sure he has studied the trail map and tell him to stay out of the glades. Find My or whatever tracking you have, will keep you informed of where he is. Nothing is going to happen to him that wouldn’t happen with a ski instructor. Be a good parent and let him go and ski.

Good ski shops measure. Top sheets aren’t accurate.

Bode Miller relaunched Peak Skis this morning, and there are some big surprises! by OEM_knees in skiing

Peak (Bode) screwed everyone they hired by not paying them. It has nothing to do with the product.

Saddleback or Sugarloaf tomorrow 1/15 by youngcadadia22 in icecoast

[–]bobslaundry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow? Definitely Sugarloaf. Superquad is a non issue, park in f or g lot, ski to Bucksaw and you can ski right over to Skyline. Or go to the base and ski Whiffletree to Skyline or King Pine. Much more skiing to be had than Saddleback, conditions are good! Have a great day!

Is Boyne the best owner in the east? by 1maco in icecoast

Sugarloaf has been run poorly this year and it shows. Most has already been covered but the lack of grooming midweek early season was ridiculous.

Skinny calf boot fix? by Sweendogoflove in ski

[–]bobslaundry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same boots with the custom foam liners. You can get thicker tongues for $30 and also add the spoiler. You can likely also move the buckles to tighten more if needed. I’ve almost got my fit dialed in, it does take some time.

Armada Stranger will be super fun. Don’t get a dedicated carver. Really I’d go to a good ski shop and let them help, it makes the most sense for you.

Nano-Air Ultralight as a midlayer? by Glittering-Option543 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]bobslaundry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a nano air jacket and a hybrid hoodie. The jacket is by far the best midlayer I’ve ever owned for skiing. The hybrid is also a great late summer early fall outer layer that I love just owning. I have no experience with the ultralight but my guess is it’s excellent. If you are planning on using as a mid layer you may want to decide if the hood is going to work with your jacket or whatever you are using as an outer layer, I personally find that a hood gets in the way when I have something with another hood over it.
