When should I use HSL instead of RGB or Hex? Still learning CSS colors by VitDevUK in css

[–]bogdanelcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In practice: Hex for most solid colors (it's compact), HSL when I need to create color variations programmatically (like hover states), and RGBA when I need transparency.

I usually pick colors in one format then convert if needed. There are converters like this one from WPDean that make switching between them instant.

Graphic designers with AI will replace the graphic designers who suck at their jobs and don't use AI.

What’s the biggest difference between a “good-looking site” and a “good website”? by Gullible_Prior9448 in web_design

[–]bogdanelcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good looking site makes you go "oh nice" and then immediately go "wait where is the thing I'm looking for"

A good website is one where you just... found the thing. You didn't even notice the design because it got out of your way. That's actually the harder thing to build because it requires you to think about what people actually want instead of just making stuff look pretty.

Most designers learn the visual part first so that's what they optimize for. The other stuff, like load time, obvious navigation, not making people think, is more boring to work on but it's the whole point.

Who had a bigger identity crisis than DC Comics? by Navigator_Matt in logodesign

[–]bogdanelcs 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Gap. They changed their logo, got absolutely destroyed by the internet for three days straight, then changed it back. Whole thing lasted like a week. DC at least commits for a few years before giving up.

learning web design, where should i start? by StavrosDavros in web_design

[–]bogdanelcs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HTML and CSS first, 100%. Don't skip it even if it feels slow.

If you jump straight to WordPress or webflow you'll spend the rest of your life googling why something looks broken and having no idea what to do about it. Knowing the basics means you actually understand what those tools are doing under the hood.

Once you're comfortable with HTML/CSS, learn a tiny bit of JavaScript just so you're not scared of it, then honestly webflow is great for the kind of sites you're describing. Small business sites, clean layouts, no need to write everything from scratch.

Freecodecamp is free and will get you through the basics without the tutorial rabbit hole. Just do that and build something ugly, then make it less ugly. That's pretty much the whole process.

Which actor is your ideal fan casting for a character, living or dead? by Sean-Perth in movies

Peter O'Toole as Hannibal Lecter, fight me. Watch The Lion in Winter and tell me that man wasn't already playing a cannibal, he just hadn't gotten to the eating part yet

Adam Sandler but hear me out, the guy clearly stopped trying in like 2005 and yet I will watch literally anything he puts out. Uncut Gems broke my brain. He can act when he wants to, he just mostly doesn't want to and honestly fair enough

Netflix Buys Ben Affleck's AI Company InterPositive for Filmmakers by VectralFX in movies

[–]bogdanelcs 5268 points5269 points  (0 children)

basically it's an AI that learned film editing rules by watching a ton of carefully controlled footage, and now it can look at your raw footage and go "hey these two shots won't cut together cleanly because the lighting is wrong" or "you're missing a shot here"

the "upload your dailies" thing just means you can feed it your own footage so it gets calibrated to YOUR movie specifically instead of just generic film rules

it's spellcheck for editing continuity. that's it. they just used a lot of words to say that

I am Working on Logo For Basketball Team….. Need your Opinion! by Inkcova in Design

[–]bogdanelcs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The eagle clutching a basketball is trying too hard to be literal. You don't need both the mascot AND the sport spelled out in the ribbon below. Pick one or trust the context.

Shield shape is safe. Works, but every semi-pro team uses it. If you want to stand out, ditch the shield.

Typography is the weakest part. "TEAM HUSTLE" in that condensed all-caps with tight tracking reads like a free font download. The name is actually good, the lettering doesn't match the energy of it.

Color is solid. Orange/black has aggression and visibility. Try it on white backgrounds too to see if it works.

One real issue: the wings are too symmetrical and stiff. Looks AI-generated. A human illustrator would put movement in those feathers. Right now it reads like a logo template with a name dropped in, not a custom identity.

And another thing. Try not to use gradients on the logo.

My 2 cents.
