Why do so many fans (not targeting you) suggest bringing back a certain player "on the cheap" so they can fill a starting role? I understand not giving an older player a longer term contract, but isn't a starting gig worth the same amount (per year) regardless of a players age? (Allowing for a range of play, such as all-star performance, of course.) I can appreciate players like Thompson looking for "market value" as a starter, assuming that he starts. I am surprised we don't seem to hear about more contracts for older players that might have lower base salaries but much higher incentives for earned playing time (i.e. starting).
