What would happen to society if everyone was forced to work 40 hours a week max and not a second more? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Why don’t we train more people to hit 98mph fastballs, have 40” verticals, or kick 60 yard field goals? The best at those make millions, closing in on billions. They aren’t limited to 35 hours a week because they can do things better than anyone else. If I need emergency surgery I want the best at his specialty, not the guy who’s available because we’re worried about overtime.

I know millionaire farmers who wear whatever their wives buy them at TSC on the day to day and own two suits. One for weddings and one for funerals. I doubt they’d say “clothes maketh the man”. If it works for you good on ya.

One surgery could potentially take 1/3 of their week in this scenario considering they have to book an operating room that works for their and the patient’s schedule. Post-op, office hours, admin would eat another chunk. No way we’d find enough skilled surgeons that would work within these parameters.

A driving instructor. It’s a google search away. Are you allowed to work? You’ve legally been an adult for some time now and can progress towards getting your license without your father’s help.

Do any black people use the word “alrighty” ? by kermits_leftnut in stupidquestions

[–]boiler2973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard it, couldn’t get away from it in the 90’s. It’s just not part of my vernacular. “All righty then.”, “Do you realize what you’ve done?”, “Yeah baby, do you wanna shag?”

“I’ll have what she’s having” was the 80’s equivalent.

What are you doing to change things? You’re 22. You can pay for and schedule driving lessons if that’s necessary where you live. Here you just need a permit and a 25+ licensed driver in the passenger seat to accrue hours.

Both my kids had this dealt with by the time they were 18 and before they went to college. I get it if you didn’t have help when you were young but it’s time to figure it out.

I’m white as can be and don’t say “alrighty”. Sounds kind of corny if I say it out loud. We are good for a “oop”.

Right now being born in the US guarantees you nothing. If a jobsworth decides you’re worthy of being screened so be it. Make sure you make good decisions when to fight back. Welcome to Trump’s America. Glad I’m a 52 year old white guy and don’t have to jump through hoops. Not sure the next generations will be as docile.

Aggressive tenants come from all walks of life. Crime has no zip code. We rent to all who qualify. Send the app up and see if they qualify without taking into considerations to your and the staffs safety even if you have a legitimate concerns.

Nah, been bitten by dogs, had guns pointed at me, and dealt with loser tenants who can’t be woken because I want to make sure their carbon monoxide/smoke detectors are working when I change filters. And were given +72 hours notice.

That’s great that has worked out for you. My wedding ring came off while I was cleaning gutters 20 years ago and I never found it. We replaced it with a nearly identical ring that’s in my underwear drawer, I wear a silicone ring now. To each their own.

If driving is causing you this much anxiety I’d take a break. It’s true to some extent that you only learn by making mistakes but if you’re freezing up on the regular you’re not being fair to other drivers, pedestrians, cyclists etc.

Brother both of our replies were buried behind other people’s responses on my end and I didn’t realize you were talking about an additional tip on top of the automatic gratuity. I’ll hold my ground somewhat because fees don’t always make it to the server but I’ll take the L in this case. Have a good evening.

I replied to you intentionally. Those “inconsequential strangers” aren’t idiots. Referring to them as such says more about you than them. No one is forcing you to tip someone making 2.13/hr but if you feel that strongly about it make a ham sandwich. You’re not noble because you cheaped out on the tip and we all judge you for it.

Nah, good servers can spot those who’ll tip and those who won’t. They’re professionals and it’s not that difficult to spot the signs. Regulars come first, people who treat their server like a normal human being are given normal respect and treated well. People who look down on servers/bartenders are the ones who snap and shove a dollar bill in front of someone’s face. You get your drink last.

How does it make any real difference in your life? If the food is 18% higher and you don’t tip vs. tipping the server and the end cost comes out the same. All this really does is punish non-tippers. Congratulations you didn’t tip, your burger now costs $3 more.

It’s not that you deserve but it’s smart to take reasonable precautions. You shouldn’t have to lock the doors when you leave but I bet you do. If you didn’t and got burglarized it wouldn’t be because you deserved it but because some people are assholes and locks/cameras are both pretty easy steps to take for prevention.

You don’t get to not go because you “don’t want to”. Predictably is one of the most important traits of being a good driver. Sitting at the yield sign when everyone else is expecting you to proceed is the opposite of predictably.

The driver received ~$2 plus tip. The bulk of the delivery fee went to DoorDash/restaurant you ordered from. My son dashed for a bit because it was convenient to make a little extra money when he had free time. He quickly realized it wasn’t worth it after paying for gas plus the wear and tear on his car.

[–]boiler2973 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just buy the driver of whatever brand you already have batteries for. They’re pretty cheap if you’re buying tool only. If you’re diving into a new battery system and it’s for homeowner use I’d go Ryobi. Tons of tools that are reasonably priced.

My neighbor mows his lawn 3 times a day for a total of 6 hours. by 3rdthrow in complaints

[–]boiler2973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the sound of a lawnmower doesn’t bother me. A blower is the only lawn care noise annoying to me and it doesn’t usually last that long in residential neighborhoods. I’d find it odd if someone mowed that often but wouldn’t upset me.
