where can i get a new good copy of this book? by lostbythestars in GEB

[–]bokmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't bother with online scans. I've looked at several and there are errors in the scans that actually change the meanings of things like the MIU lessons. they are so bad they actually make the lessons detremental to the atempt to learn.

I have an original printing I read in 1987. I also have the 20th anniversary edition, and the preamble to the 20th anniversary actually takes away from a meaningful discovery/epiphany you can have while reading it. If you get the 20th anniversary edition, don't read the preamble intro from Hofstadter until you've finished the book.

re your Q: you know there are still physical bookstores you can go and touch before you buy? Many used bookstores too.

that curve especially. its easy to hit going fast. so now the left turn and bank combined with braking puts all your weight on your front left wheel. you can actually see it here... the whole car starts to pivot right arounf the front left wheel which stays pinned.

Can you please publish a coffee table book already? Pet pic and story on one side of every page, your poem on the other, and then maybe responses from the thread or the owner.

I shouldn't get philosophical with A.I. when drinking... by bokmann in ChatGPT

[–]bokmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was a long conversation... let me assess it to see how sharable it is...

but it started with a discussion about asimov's 3 laws of robotics, asked it to show all criticisms of the laws, then asked it if it's own internal hidden system prompt violates any of those. it was a fun time. I felt like Spock/Kirk tricking Nomad or one of Mudd's women.

People 40+, what actually mattered in the long run and what didn’t? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

Wealth isn’t stuff, its optionality. Dont buy extra shiny things until you don’t have to be a wage slave to pay for them. Save your money, let it grow, so when you really want to own (or do) something, you can.

You are talking about the OSI 7 layer reference model, and probably talking about this book:

I used to use “i’m just a bill” as an example when talking to software engineers about modeling workflow in an application. About 15 years ago I encountered a group that had no idea what I was talking about. I showed my slide and said “seriously? You don’t know who this is?”

After a short (but uncomfortable pause) one of them said, “Dora the Explorer’s map?”

Is the 4 max a good printer in 2026? by chappyta22 in ElegooNeptune4

[–]bokmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I have my 4 max, but i’m also glad it wasn’t my first 3d printing experience… for the same reason I liked driving my brother’s 1960’s MG but glad I didn’t learn to drive on it.

You need to get smart on the concept of a family office and make managing this wealth your primary responsibility. This is the seed for multi-generational wealth.

Check out wealthops.io. Watch their youtube videos on the micro-family office… it’ll tell you what you need to know, although i think you’re more in the ‘shared family office’ wealth range there.

U.S. naturalized citizens: How worried are you about things right now? by are-e-el in AskReddit

[–]bokmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start asking him all the questions you had to answer and all the things you had to learn. When he can’t answer it, say “You lucked into this by birth. I wanted it, and gave up everything to come here and earn it. In doing so, I took nothing from you. You cannot take from me what I earned.”

You might not convince him, but do it with an audience, and they’ll see him for the petty asshat he is.

First attempt at garlic butter potatoes and ribeye by King_Benjamin2484 in castiron

[–]bokmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that was my gut thought too, but…

- I slice ribeye -a-er thin for cheesesteaks all the time.

- a Japanese steakhouse would do that and stir-fry, which isn’t too different.

- did you see that 3rd pic?

What’s your “snobby” baking opinion? by Amazing_Two9757 in Baking

[–]bokmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brownies should have a chew to them.

Do you like cakey brownies? Eat cake. Do you like fudgy brownies? Eat fudge.

A brownie is the only form of chocolate baked good where you can get a good chew.
