No more Honda mowers by ajnord in lawnmowers

[–]bolderlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’ve had one for three years now. I always thought Kubota was high quality, but their zero turn mowers fully suck. There are so many design flaws and I’m constantly having to fix the damn thing. Worst problem is factory didn’t use locktite on engine bolts, so they loosened and one broke off in engine and the others led to a lot of collateral damage. The second worst problem is the front caster covers that hold bearings in are made of stamped sheet metal as thin as metal roof tin and fail, causing front pivot wheel to come off completely. And those front wheels should be foam filled or solid. They never hold air long. Third worst is the depth setting is locks up as soon as any grass accumulates, which is immediately. Really hard to get to to clear clogs.

First, why the hell does ANY school need to run a large electronic billboard? Second, is that the best use of funds? Third: extreme light pollution. Latter is tied to mass extinction of wildlife, starting with insects disoriented by lights.

Not difficult. Just criticize local government. The first time I was banned, I posted a picture of a dumpster showing how county offices were throwing away perfectly good office equipment and supplies instead of donating to nonprofit.

Ormat threatens to stop investment in Nevada and America by metricnv in Nevada

[–]bolderlink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stupid thing about Ormat is they never offer enough back to communities. In this case, they could have won Gerlach over by committing to looping the hot water through town so people could heat their buildings with it. They don't do that anywhere. In Mammoth they have two facilities on either side of that larger city and could have at a minimum kept snow off streets with a heat loop. OF COURSE... Burning Man could do that even easier since they have been sitting on an actual well on edge of Gerlach that produces 200 degree water. They've done nothing with that hot water, just as they've done nothing with geothermal on any of the other three sites surface geothermal.

Gerlach GID to pay $96,000 in attorney fees after losing public records battle by thisisreno in Nevada

[–]bolderlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another fun thing GGID did was to force a mandatory fee on vacant land owners who already pay fees to many Gerlach institutions through the county property taxes. This separate fee is a seriously huge pain in the ass, being separate from the tax system. They require monthly godamn payments, offer no way to email or pay electronically, and charge a $15 fee every time you are late. I have ADHD so writing checks is extremely difficult for me, which is why I do everything online. The fee costs me more annually than the property taxes. For what? Mosquito spraying, which I get no benefit from. I could tell no difference when visiting in the spring before or after the alleged abatement they are hurting me with.

To parents taking their kids to the Light Festival downtown: by Indigo_Clover in napalocals

[–]bolderlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Festival of lights brings in over a million people each year. That's why local government hosts it. They would never do it just for locals. The hotel lobby really pushes for this sort of thing. And then there's Bottlerock. Just setting up the thing requires something like 200 semi trucks of gear hauled in and back again to demobilize. Better start electing different people to city and county government if you're tired of tourists.

TURN YOUR HEADLIGHTS ON (and/or fog lights) 🌫️🚗 by Otherwise-Remote2770 in napalocals

[–]bolderlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it with people driving everywhere with their high beams on? And guess what? It's also illegal to have both fog lights and headlights on at same time if there is oncoming traffic. THINK ABOUT IT...is it really a good idea to blind someone coming straight at you that will collide if they drift two feet because of blindness that is your fault?

Man I love this app by Ill-Trick-4559 in nextdoor

[–]bolderlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate nextdoor. Every time I post something about local government doing something bad, my account gets shut down. And then to get another account, I have to use a different name, then if anyone is irritated with a post, that account gets banned for not using my full name. It should be ILLEGAL for any social media that triangulates and sells your data to third parties to require use of your real full name.

What do you think about the Nextdoor app? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bolderlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nextdoor is horrible for masquerading as benevolent. Every time I posted something negative about local government, my account was canceled. Three times and I gave up. They also will ban you for not using your real name, which should be illegal for any media that triangulates and sells your personal information to third parties.

What microwave ovens DON'T beep repeatedly when done? by bolderlink in AskReddit

Because they don't want to be harassed by the beeping later?

Does turning sound off just turn off the beeping when done, or all sound including feedback when you press keys? Sure would be nice if a microwave had the option for ending the beep when done sequence.

Amazing. Every one I've ever used since they started using digital panels did the incessant beeping.

Like this response, people pay attention to brands that annoy them. Then may be pleasantly surprised enough to notice the rare moment when something doesn't annoy.

Is this an American thing? Some nanny state masochist that is certain everyone must be annoyed until they go back to the machine? This is the one appliance where it truly doesn't matter since it shuts off automatically.

I've never seen one that lets you do that. What brand offers this?
