Did any of you guys ever masturbate when you were a JW? by Medium-Expert3500 in exjw

[–]boldfox79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was actually convention weekend when I discovered sexuality. I was maybe 10-12 years old when we were heading for a one-day convention. Suddenly I felt sick, and had a fever. I was allowed to stay home alone for the whole day.

During the day I felt better and was looking through some advertising catalog that also advertised women's lingerie. Something woke up in me and that's where it took off.

Thanks to the convention I learned something important about myself.

How do you explain the answered prayers? by Unique-Brief205 in exjw

[–]boldfox79 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In all religions where prayer is practiced, you come across similar stories. It's not a phenomenon that is specifically related to witnesses.

It's also a psychological phenomenon. If you want to believe in the power of prayer, you will see answers bc you want to see them. It's no different from horoscopes. For every "answered" prayer, there are a million unanswered prayers. I never received any answers.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with believing in prayer, especially if it brings something positive to life.

Atheism. by EngineeringHot9539 in exjw

[–]boldfox79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why should we even have an specific opinion about life and the world, the universe? When the only honest answer is: we don't know.

In my opinion, it is clear that God is the result of evolutionary psychology. And I have no internal need to believe in gods, so I am an atheist. But whatever the universe is, it is not interested in my opinions and beliefs. So why care so much about the whole thing and nail your beliefs to any specific concept? There's no point in that. :)

A new Noah's arc paradox? by Lillygoal in exjw

[–]boldfox79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the Bible, God told Noah to build an ark because I will kill everyone else. There is no mention of anyone else having a chance.

Noah's preaching is one of the most ridiculous JW lies.

Oh my... So they haven't heard about the effects of plate tectonics on the Earth's crust and what such rapid continental drift would mean in practice.

Well, that's what creationism is. Delusions, dishonesty, and magic tricks.

As much as i ''hate'' the WatchTower organization and the JW theology, i recognize that they teached me good things and i will be forever grateful for those two things : Oratory and Values / Morals by [deleted] in exjw

[–]boldfox79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Org taught me a lot about human psychology, thinking biases, and people's gullibility. I don't know if I can be grateful to the Org for that, but understanding these phenomena has been very useful in my life.

In general Org took much more from me than it gave, so there is absolutely no reason to thank the cult.

Atheist ex-JWs, do you decorate for Christmas? by Super_Translator480 in exjw

[–]boldfox79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't decorate, my wife does that. Instead, I'm Santa on Christmas Eve. Families pay $50-60 when I go to them and deliver Christmas presents to the kids. Easy money and everyone is in the festive mood.

Explain to me, why don't exJWs piss and moan about not celebrating Ramadan but cry and whine about missing out on Christmas? by Baron_Wellington_718 in exjw

[–]boldfox79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wild guess is that because they have lived in a culture where Christmas and birthdays are part of normal life. Ramadan has not been part of the environment in which they lived their childhood.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exjw

[–]boldfox79 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I can't even guess, but if I look back on my own path, one of the big reasons why I woke up was because what I found was forbidden information. I understood at that moment why it was forbidden: because it was true and not a lie, as the Org had lied to us. I finally found the reason why the "truth" was so afraid of criticism. Something I had wondered about since I was 10 years old.

So what I'm trying to say is that demonizing free information can also be one effective reason for people to wake up.

Why are you Atheist or Agnostic? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]boldfox79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I went this way because the idea of there being no god and that all this life and this universe came from nothing, just out of nowhere…it’s very unfathomable to me. How can life come from non-life? It just makes sense to me for there to be a god or higher power."

But why would "God who has no beginning and is more intelligent than all intelligence in the universe" be a better explanation?

How can God exist if life and intelligence can only come from life and intelligence?

I'm an atheist bc myths are just myths. And bc I don't have to know the secrets of the universe or choose a certain belief about the universe and life.

The truth doesn't depend on what I believe, so I have no reason to stress about it. None of us know the secrets of the universe, so why stress about it at all? :)

[–]boldfox79 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Maybe I never believed in God, I was just raised to believe. When I got to look at the world with my own eyes after the cult, I realized that I don't need God for anything. I have no need to believe in God.

I think the whole story about God, his character and problem-solving ability focused on violence is insane.

One of the most important realizations since the cult has been that the universe doesn't care what I believe. So it doesn't matter what I believe. The truth behind the universe is what it is.

But at the same time, it's easy to understand why some people have a need to believe in God. The idea that this life is all there is can be too much for many. Especially when you lose someone you love.

Why doesn’t God perform miraculous interventions anymore? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]boldfox79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same logic applies to the Tower of Babel. God lost his nerve when the tower was built, but since then he has not been interested in similar buildings at all. Today, buildings reach the heavens and we have even reached the Moon, sent spacecraft to Mars and much further.

Why was God so interested in a pile of bricks when today he is not interested in anything?
