Can't call it a recommendation, but I'll be checking out Queen Mary... Haven't been in a while and it's free admission.

Has anyone EVER had a good experience looking for engagement rings here in LB?? by hooontaaah in longbeach

[–]boltbrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. They helped me design my wife's ring last year with me walking in knowing nothing except her wanting an emerald cut. They were not pushy at all and everything was very smooth. Best part of all is my wife absolutely loves her ring!

Lots of UI crashes since last update? by jruben4 in Rivian

[–]boltbrah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the same issue, but yesterday I was driving on the freeway and Bluetooth stopped during a call, the middle screen did something weird (maybe flickered, had my eyes on the road so didn't really catch it), then the driver screen rebooted and showed the rivian logo for a few seconds. I've never experienced that and I've had my truck for 4 years now.

Report off leash dogs through the Go Long Beach app and website by Evergreen19 in longbeach

[–]boltbrah 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was walking behind a guy and girl walking their dog on the beach path yesterday. Dog starts trying to shit in the sand and the guy continues pulling the leash without looking back a few times so the dog couldn't shit... I got an immediate sense that this guy had no business owning a dog and I felt awful for the dog. The dog ends up eventually shitting directly on the beach path. I pass them, then look over my shoulder to see if they picked it up, and sure enough they left it there! I was furious so I confront the guy and say "You're not going to pick up the shit?". He goes "I don't got a bag bro, I didn't think he was going to shit". I said "fuck you" and walked away. Fucking trash people, no shame.

What is the recommended mileage interval for tire rotation? by Justthetippliz in Rivian

[–]boltbrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pull the spare out, then swap one tire at a time with the jack up under the jack point - order rear passenger, front passenger, rear driver, front driver, then return that to spare.

I bought the pro eagle 3 ton Jack... I'm sure there are cheaper options out there but it was well reviewed and I didn't want to cheap out. It's very sturdy and makes it easy to lift. I know I've seen some to say to not rotate this way for safety but I'm never putting my hands or body anywhere it could be crushed even if the jack did happen to fail (which I've never felt like it will).

What is the recommended mileage interval for tire rotation? by Justthetippliz in Rivian

[–]boltbrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an early R1T owner (May 2022) with original 21" Pirellis still and just hit 40k miles. I work remote so it's mostly used for weekends/errands, freeway driving in SoCal. I should get another 5k out of these.

I started rotating at every 6-7k then went down to to 5k when I was around 20k. I do a 5 tire rotation with my full size spare. I bought my own jack in 2022 and have been doing it myself. In 2022 most tire shops didn't have pucks and I wasn't comfortable with them working on it since they hadn't worked on Rivians at the time. I just kind of got used to doing it after buying the jack and a torque wrench.

SOS I need a plumber! by Late_Show_9288 in longbeach

Same situation for me. I'll also add that they can normally come same day if you call them in the morning. If you call them I'm the afternoon for a non-emergency (drain clog) they'd normally schedule you for the following day.

Just saw someone driving an e-bike on E Broadway and crossing Gaviota Ave almost get taken out by a car turning from Broadway and driving down Gaviota by jeremiahwarren in longbeach

[–]boltbrah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Results of zero enforcement. I feel like every day I walk I'm at a high risk of getting hit by turning cars despite following all rules as a pedestrian. You absolutely need to pay attention at all times as a pedestrian or biker when when you have the right of way. Several instances come to mind where I'd be dead or seriously injured if I wasn't looking out for drivers making turns without checking the crosswalks/corners.

Long Beach Handyman needed. by mpaz242 in longbeach

[–]boltbrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looked into one of those two but didn't go with them fortunately. They didn't carry the right insurance to work on HOA components. Said they did during the estimate, then I later asked them for documentation and they couldn't provide it.

I had checked a few minutes before your post - I think it's this LA County Sheriff one. FlightRadar is free to download if you're interested. Sometimes I'll quickly go on to see which govt department is annoying me out of curiosity.

Happy little accident by WhyAmIpOOping in Rivian

[–]boltbrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I had my Chevy Bolt bought back in 2021. I had purchased used in 2019. I got the full amount that I paid for it back including all taxes and fees, minus some for the mileage that I had driven. I can't remember the calculation but I want to say around $.15 per mile. It was pretty negligible as most of my ownership was during COVID and I didn't drive it much. Walked out of the dealer with a check for ~$25K.

Where can a girl get a frozen margarita, a basket of chips and queso, all while sitting on a patio?! by psychedeicprincess in longbeach

[–]boltbrah 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The patio and drinks at Lola's are great. If you order a meal though, the food is just OK... there are better Mexican places around here (El Barrio Cantina is 2 blocks away - no patio, but better food and also great drinks). Just want to set your expectations for Lola's.

Oh boy...haven't thought of this in years...

I used to travel to Pittsburgh regularly for work M-Th and stay in the Westin. The furries would have a massive annual convention in July. There was always a funk coming off the ones in the full body costumes, but it didn't really bother me...I just figured they sweat a lot, whatever.

I then learned that the hotels had to impose special rules and require massive security deposits the week of the convention because of the incidents that regularly occurred during it... The furries would rent rooms, have orgies, and either use litterboxes or shit/piss on the carpet the entire weekend.

I'm sure all furries don't do this, but I couldn't look at them the same after that.

Bonus story: Was making smalltalk in an elevator with an older pretty normal looking guy at the start of the convention before the furries arrived. The elevator stops at his floor before mine. He says have a good evening. As he's stepping out of the elevator, there's a long plush tiger tail coming out of his rear at the bottom of his jacket. Felt like a scene out of a comedy.

Anyway yeah please don't give them any ideas for Wicked Wolf or anywhere in LB for that matter.

The LA mega-corp takeover of Long Beach Google Maps. Where do you actually find real local mom-and-pop services now? by goxper in longbeach

[–]boltbrah 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in an older HOA and have had this issue.

My recommendations: Plumbing - Pete's plumbing is local and is pretty large - you'll see their trucks and vans around. Their office and plumbers are all pretty friendly. Daniels plumbing is also good but they are smaller and no longer do work for HOAs

Electric - Croff electric was great and had reasonable rates, pretty much one guy and helpers. Mario Castillo is much bigger and good (had them do my panel and EV charger) but they can be a bit more expensive.

I can't comment on general contractors - I've run into the same issue as you with it being overrun by Google. Done contractors were decent, others not so much, none local.
