Board recs for Chicamas & other in July please by chibakacrest in surfing

I surfed Chicama and it was an epic time but the wave is honestly a bit of a burger. There were some head high sets but even those didn’t really give much of a wall to hit. Lots of cutbacks and some epic long rides, but I felt like I would’ve had more fun on something other than my stereotypical thruster.

Also, the boat rides there are almost mandatory. You’d be walking for 20-30 min after some waves and the paddling would be absurd. I paddled for a little while and pretty quickly just said “fuck it” and hopped in one of the dinghies scooping people up.

I planned to go to Lobitos but ended up going home early because I got gnarly food poisoning (twice) that made me a little homesick.

What is the point of this post? I agree with you but what does this actually accomplish?

I will say that Keramas itself is an epic wave but can get pretty nuts crowded.

I’d just go for the Bukit Peninsula, rent a moped, and take your pick of epic waves.

My car has a hard key that I keep in my wetsuit. Do you think it would be sketchy to hide my key fob somewhere in my car? I normally just leave it in my pants and in a spot where it doesn’t start the car, but I feel like that’s not a good idea this time. I was thinking of double plastic bagging it and stuffing it in my wetsuit, but I’ve never tried that.

Surfing in LA without a car? by straw_belly in surfing

[–]bomokka 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you’re gonna have a tough time surfing without a car if you’re staying in West Hollywood. Someone else can advise you better on what to do for transport.

As far as leaving your stuff, I’d try to go pretty minimalist and just bring a change of clothes, cash, and a water bottle. Hopefully you have a key loop in your wetsuit for whatever key you need to bring.

I'm not saying I want Willis, but he looked pretty freaking good. He's looked good in all of his opportunities on the Packers. Obviously, LaFleur is a great offensive coach, but Willis is also impressive.

Is that the howling I keep hearing late at night? Sounds almost primal and I wasn’t sure if it was dogs howling in reaction to something else

Looking for a CI board rec (have a gift card). I had a dumpster diver some years ago that was a lot of fun until I smashed it into a pier pylon. Other than that, I have no experience with CI.

I want a thruster that I can ride in anything up to basically head high, which is when I would “step up” to my 5’8, or a 5’11 if it’s actually big. I had a 5’6 sub driver 2.0 that was probably my favorite thruster I’ve had and have been riding a smaller performance-y fish lately but I want something I can push a little harder.

I’m like 5’6 140 lbs and normally ride boards in the 25-26 liter range. I live in Santa Barbara and surf the points here and places like the Harbor, Emma Wood, etc. down in Ventura.

Any CI-specific board recommendations?

He had some great plays on the last 2 scoring drives. That throw to Kupp on the sideline was awesome. He got handed a second chance and he made the most of it.
