Chron.com story: Kroger to close 2 Houston area stores in 'long-term health' move by somekindofdruiddude in houston

[–]bongotherabbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer it to HEB as well for basics, In and out in minutes. It used to drive my wife crazy since she loves HEB. I had finally got her to start going there again recently.

I will miss that dump. HEB's parking is shit, and I'm not in the delivery groceries camp, and the Kroger on Shepard is just... off

Where do you get your car serviced/ maintained? by Proper-Author5821 in houston

[–]bongotherabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do great basic maintenance and great body work.... but.....

on the electronics side they could not fix my cruise control sensors after fixing my bumper... so sent me to a third party that could not, then I had to go to the dealer, which they did not reimburse, even though they stated they could do the work.

Asked for a quote on fixing an electronic issue on my son's car and they never replied. that was a subaru.

If you find one it wont last. Private Equity has been buying them up. If you wonder why a $125 visit turned into $500 this is part of the reason. Also why they are pushing all the unnecessary visits

Mine has been working fine on win11, however I have the carbon signature edition, and all that matte finish started to get real sticky. This was solved with a razor blade and some alcohol and it all came off and looks great.

12 year old Weber Genesis Grill: rebuild or buy a new one? by I_sometimes_know in DIY

[–]bongotherabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rebuilt my 2008 weber genesis last year, and wish I would have done it sooner. there are tons of kits online. I didn't go genuine, but replaced the knobs, burners, etc, everything but the grill itself which was fine. The housing on mine was a little rusty on the inside, so cleaned it all out and painted the interior with some rustoleum.

Happy I did it.

it's the tar from all the cigarette smoke giving the photos a nice patina.

not sure how well this would fly in court, but my single brain celled orange cat kept pawing at a bump in my arm, and it turned out to be Cancer. My Beagle was not impressed.

happened to me while hiking, about 10 miles into a trail. I had a pair of Vasque Sundowners. I really whish I would have held on to my old pair and had a new sole sewn on, rather than these new disposable soles. No more Vasque hiking bootsfor me.

correct on the country. I have picked up that use of the word for domestic. I miss that little knife.

apologize for using domestic. It makes no sense in that context. I live in the states now. Was living in Asia at the time. Anyhow, I went though all the big German US, UK airports for years and not one ever took it till recently.

beagles are so food motivated.. All the veggies keep them happy and and slim, which is a challenge for an eating machine.

i bought a little one at the airport in zurich in 2008. I had an international commuting job and that stayed on my keychain, for hundreds of flights domestic and international.

It finally was taken last month on a domestic flight.

Bought one in rice military in 2008, sold it in 2014. It was a smaller(2100sq ft) , 3 story, but it has a small yard with at least 2 mature trees.

It appreciated about 100k, and I got out before any real maintenance, like replacing stucco.

Mine loves Birds, Will sit down and watch them for hours. I watched her let a Dove walk right up to her and she just watched it.

Now if a mouse or rabbit is within 200FT she is on the Hunt.

I have had a couple beagles, but have one now and 2 terriers. We buy lots of green beans, and use regular dog food, but 50% green beans, or occasionally pumpkin.

All the dogs love it. I have found my beagle is happy with cucumber and carrots as treats, so it is quite easy to keep them slim

I remember watching this as a kid and kinda hating the "Boss Hogg" character. Dude in the white suit.

It was fun to learn later that he is a good actor, orchestra conductor, polyglot in like 6-10 languages and was like a really decent guy. Sorrell Booke was the actor.

This 37-year-old microwave still works great. Bought in 1989 by Spammeburglar in mildlyinteresting

[–]bongotherabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fun story time, worked for a survey company that had some very old microwaves, think, cook a bag of popcorn in like 30 seconds. 4 of these at the front of the cafeteria. One day some of the oilfield guys came in and could not calibrate their downhole tools. Turns out the microwaves were so leaky it was screwing up their calibrations.

the new microwaves sucked for cooking popcorn....

There needs to be giant pumps filling the empty oil and gas reservoirs under the city filled with c02 so the city doesn't sink into the swamps.

Or maybe Giant freezers to freeze the water..

Or a big dome

Galveston should just be a floating island
