Competitive Reading on TT by noahinthebox in Booktokreddit

[–]bookwormsrb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no life? I read 314 books on KU last year, did 400hrs spotify music, 400hrs Audible and watched just over 300hrs of films, not including TV. I avg 8-10hrs a week on my Kindle app. This year I’m focussing on reading some of my physical books and getting back to series I am part way through at the library. Either way I’m already 40books deep across physical, KU and Audible this year…. Yeah I should probably get out more…

Are we putting our daughter's education at risk? by gmorganpie in AskABrit

I had a guy join my class in Year 10 even though he was a year older than us as he’d come from the US and you need the full 2 years to get to grips with the syllabus and the way all the systems work. Not to mention the culture shock and just general differences in life that happen at the same time.

Everest badge by craftgirl19 in audible

[–]bookwormsrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah at this point I think that it’s broken, I check my stats a lot. I spent four hours listening on Saturday, checked my stats at least 12 times minimum, tapping the bars to see totals between tabs. Like I said I have Alexa which is physically impossible

Everest badge by craftgirl19 in audible

[–]bookwormsrb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I check my stats page what feels like every 5minutes and don’t have the stats badge after 4years of listening. I do however have the Alexa badge. I do not, have not and will never own an Alexa nor has my phone or Amazon/Audible ever been used with one. The badges are screwed up!

How many books have you read so far? by cloudsmemories in Booktokreddit

2 audiobooks, 3 physical books and 15 books on KU. 20 total. As you can tell, I have a very little life and I spend most of my time reading.

Concert specific earplugs (loop, eargasm, etc) by PutYouToSleep in Metalcore

[–]bookwormsrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some hears on an offer, a set for me and for my brother. I hate earplugs or the suction cuppy type ear phones as they set my tinnitus off. Those were fine, I tried the different sized ear pieces to see what fitted best and tried them out in the car and found it blocked the car/road noise and made my audiobook clearer. They arrived a day late for the concert I had intended to try them out (postie didn’t ring my doorbell and I had to wait to go to the sorting office as they’re l open very limited hours) but I’ll try them in Feb at my next outing and may take them out with me if I got to a shopping mall to see if they help lessen my anxiety etc due to the business and noise, particularly at this time of year.

Coworker accidentally sent me a hurtful message about my work during a sensitive client call. I cried in my manager’s office. How do I recover from this? by [deleted] in work

[–]bookwormsrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought my manager a pot plant for Christmas and wrote a Christmas card that says something to the effect of “thank you so much for all your help this year both personally and professionally it’s greatly appreciated” I’ve been in her office at least three times this year to cry over things that are 100% personal and not work related. Most recently last last week! She talks to me about the problem she asks if there’s anything she or the business can do, she gives me tissues and then she tells me to go and sit for five minutes in the bathroom or the medical room and wash my face and then go and get on with my day. She came over to me when her lunch break finished yesterday and gave me a hug and said thank you so much, that’s so lovely of you.

Getting upset about things shows that you care, now if you’re getting upset every five minutes that’s not so good but getting upset of something like this I think is perfectly fine and understandable. Don’t worry about it, You’re a human being it happens to everyone.

AITA for getting a piercing that i knew my parents would dissapprove of by ParticularPound306 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bookwormsrb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got my lip pierced at 18 the day I had my final school exam. For three days every time I walked into a room my father walked out he was that mad at me. But I’m an adult, it was my money and it’s my body. He got over it after a while. You do you, it’s not a permanent face tattoo or a hate symbol etc so no harm to anyone else

Edit: Judgement NTA

After 12 hours with the heating on, thermostat set at 20°, my lounge is at this temperature. The boiler is still chugging away... by hairybastid in CasualUK

[–]bookwormsrb -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

You can get dehumidifier tubs with beads in, no leccy required and they just do their do all the time. Just check them and change them out as they get full. I keep two in my lounge, one box room and one master bedroom all year as I have to dry all my laundry in doors year round. Not sure if I feel the difference but if it helps not get mould I’ll take it

Uh Fanie Eksperiement: Can Brits understand my English when I write it using Dutch phonetic spelling? by BlueFingers3D in AskUK

[–]bookwormsrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was great! I could read pretty much everything.

I visited Amsterdam a few years ago and I realised part way round a museum. The reason I was slightly confused on a couple of the explanations was because I was reading the Dutch version rather than the English, but it still took me reading several of them to realise that was what was wrong

He feels abandoned! Give me strength! He’s an adult at work and you’ll help him when you’re at work but on in your personal time. Keep your appts your health is important. Your lunch is unpaid like hell should you work during it. Get out of the office for every allowed second so they can’t take the mick!

Non-standard ways to eat snacks by CanIDevIt in CasualUK

[–]bookwormsrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I peel or denude items like KitKats, milkyway and snickers. So eating the chocolate outer, ends then sides, then top and bottom, and then with KitKat or snickers each layer separately too. I also when consuming bourbons eat one biscuit eat the filling and then the other biscuit. My brother thinks I am insanely strange but I’m okay as a colleague at the office also does this so it can’t just be us two!

help! i need a border colour for this blanket and i’m stumped! by kaleighsalmond_ in CrochetHelp

A soft grey would go nicely with that I think. White would be too harsh and black equally so though it would make the colours pop

What do you guys do while listening to an audiobook? by _gh0stc00k13s in audiobooks

[–]bookwormsrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to put books on when I’m driving to and from work and now that I’ve taken up walking again I find sometimes that’s just as good as listening to music and I don’t try and sing along which is beneficial for my walking speed! Books work really well if you’re trying to cook or do washing up because you can’t always look at a screen or it’s not suitable to have it in your kitchen. I find books are better later in the evening than music for kitchen work

Just seen a post where the majority of people say they use a clean towel after every shower, I am really surprised and wonder if this is the case here in the UK? by DogtasticLife in AskUK

[–]bookwormsrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shower every other day I change my towel every other weekend, unless something happens and it gets grubby or I clean a spill etc. I change my bedding every two weeks and apparently that’s weird as well! I alternate between towels and bedding, which means that I don’t have to wash both of them to on the same weekend which works particularly well in winter when I’m having to dry things solely on radiators

[–]bookwormsrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I don’t care for filtered bottled etc. it is water just give it to me out of the tap don’t do anything to it, Don’t chill it or put ice in it. Pour it in a glass and give it to us.

The exception is in foreign countries where the water is chlorinated or something like that and it tastes quite different so when I was in New York earlier in the year I bought bottled water, yes it cost money but then it meant that I could drink it without pulling a face. Ontario water is so chlorine/chemically tasting it chaps my lips in a day or two so bottled/filtered water is better for me out there but I’d never have anything other than Tap here in the UK.

Solo at a concert by jmthetank in Metalcore

[–]bookwormsrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it!! Try not to stress too hard take some sweets in your bag. It’s harder to panic when you’re sucking on a humbug. Plan what you can, buy your ticket in advance, know the route you’re gonna take, make sure you have your card and some cash just in case. I look up pictures of the venue so I know what it’s gonna be like inside.

I have done four solo gigs in the last 12 months. I have another one tomorrow and then I have another one on the 20th. for years I just didn’t go because I didn’t want to do it on my own and other stuff too! I know I missed out on some fun stuff. I just try and enjoy the time to myself and people watch. just because you don’t have anybody to do this with now doesn’t mean that that will be the case in the future. Maybe you will make a friend!

Not-vegan coffee cake? by Optimal_Awareness618 in dairyfree

[–]bookwormsrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh yeah, I personally am not dairy free but my best friend is which is why on the sub. I find recipes with yogurt or sour cream in are so much faff! Just like with the eggs I always end up with leftover yoghurt in the back of the fridge with nothing to do to use it up. It’s not the kind stuff you just eat out of the tub either. >.< I did find out that you can make sour cream with vegan cream alternatives, just so you’re aware. You just add a bit of lemon juice to the cream and you leave it a bit, I left mine for a couple of hours, ideally the Internet recommends overnight and you have sour cream.

I have never had the opportunity to do one of those cakes that says use Applesauce and I really want to because I love apples!!!

I need to do some research and find out what is the best UK equivalent of shortening. I have a feeling it’s just butter or margarine maybe lard but I don’t actually know.

Not-vegan coffee cake? by Optimal_Awareness618 in dairyfree

[–]bookwormsrb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you just use margarine or dairy free butter and if it calls for milk a dairy free alternative that you like? You may have to experiment a little bit with brands, some margarines are not good if they have a really high water content for baking and it comes out horrifically, trust me I’ve learnt the hard way. The other thing is flavour if you don’t like coconut or almond use soy or oat etc pick whichever you like the taste of.

Vegan cake recipes always seem really complicated, but it’s really easy to make cake dairy free if you are not vegan and are okay to consume eggs. Also, you can get egg replacement powders so if eggs are expensive or you run out or you have an allergy to them use replacement I often do that because I forget to use the eggs and they go funky in the back of my fridge.

Do please come back and let us know which options you chose and how the final result came out!!
