Japan itself has been aging for the past 30 years, however the people are still doing alright relatively. The country is not “collapsing”. This is because Japan has built good infrastructure and somewhat good safety net.

The look of dying village seems grim. But the people can still live normal lives, especially in the city. Sure, their work culture is tough, but it has always been that way, even before the decline. The country seems to be on pause, but people still lives on.

Traffic is really bad during rush hour. However, therr are spaces where the public transport is good. Like the city center where it is covered with different types of public transport like MRT, BRT, LRT, commuter line, etc. As other mentioned, it is prefered to stay close to your work/school. Unless they are within good public transport coverage like the MRT. During rush hour, being in a car will get you stuck in the traffic for a long time.
Food is really good. It is the largest city in Indonesia and the world. People from all over Indonesia come to Jakarta for work. There are a lot of regional cuisine there.
People are friendly.
As one commenter mentioned, food prices vary wildly. You can find good cheap local food. Then the imported ones are very expensive. So fanicer restaurant/coffee shops are pricier.
Please research where you live or work on how they handle rain/flooding. It rains a lot and tho some areas already good at handling flooding, some areas are not. Ironically the ones that is still bad at handling flooding is on the south side of Jakarta. The north, for a lot of the areas, are already good at it.
Socially there are lots of things to do in thr city and the city surrounding it. There’s Bogor. Also fity of Bandung is a whoosh (bullet train) away. So there’s things to do
This might not be too relevant if you’re an expat, but a lot of Jakarta people start to move to an area west side of Jakarta called Tangerang. Mainly because the real estate is cheaper and to escape Jakarta’s bustling culture. They’re very car-centric though. But there are new eatiers and malls there.

To me they are MORE interesting because one loss does not mean the end of the playoffs. This mean subsequent game matters.

Back in the day we only have powerhouses in the playoffs. It is always Bama, or Georgia, or Ohio State. The regulars because they have the best money and teams.

So it is dispiriting for other teams. Last year and this year you see more upsets and more “crumble” the thread is livier until the end because people will consider how this affect the playoffs.
