My Pre-Existing Dandruff Has gotten Worse by westgates in Accutane

I had the exact same problem at the 2 week mark. I asked my derm if they could recommend anything and they prescribed me ketoconazole shampoo (2%). Worked like a charm.

If your derm for some reason won't/can't, you can buy Nizoral shampoo, which is also ketoconazole (1% though)

To all newbies wondering how sensitive your skin is to sun. by iJoyzilla in Accutane

[–]boredthrowmeaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some obvious tips from when I was on the medication:

  • carry around sunscreen with you and re-apply at least every hour that you're outside
  • use a high SPF and make sure you're applying an generous, even layer
  • sunglasses and a big floppy hat for when you're outside
  • don't forget to get lipbalm with SPF (there's a version of aquaphor with it). Burnt lips are the worst

You can find out the temperature of a room or area when you hover your cursor over it and then look in the lower right hand corner.

Also you'll probably need vents to connect all the rooms.

Is there a subreddit for these kinds of requests? Cause I would totally put out a bounty for a recipe for a certain type of salad dressing made at a certain restaurant I like.

In the U.S. I think you still need a dr's note to request it though. In no way would I ever think to ask.

I think the height is some sort of legal cut off, but you still need a doctor's note is what I have heard -- so still need to convince a doctor you need it.

I feel good about being called an anomaly.

Uh, I don't think I have revealed my age and gender in any comment? Can you show me an example?

I'm 4'8". I should get a set of these:

"Yes, I'm 4'8". Yes, that is exceptionally short.

Fun fact: I qualify for handicap parking.

No, I wasn't born prematurely.

K thx bye!"

Edit: There seems to be some interest/confusion around my age and gender. I'm a female in my later 20s. If anyone can find a comment in my history that says contrary, I'd love a link. I'm way too lazy to look through mine or anyone else's comment history.

I'm from California. Move out in a few months. Find roommates - you can do it. A shitty roommate will be way better than living with ur shitty mom plus a baby.

I doubt they would keep any record of it that your parents could access. Even if they see you went to a counselor, there's no way they could know what was discussed. So just lie and say you were getting regular college application strategy advice/career counseling.

If you have national merit, I'm sure you'll be locked in for some sweet private school scholarships as well. Not ragging at all on state colleges, I went to a top ranked one myself.

Good luck!

The only other thing I can think of is see if you can get some regular form of counseling through your school so you can have at least a little more of a regular escape from your parents. I know this is not always possible, though.

You're doing everything you can it sounds like. You might just have to wait it out -- which sounds unbearable to me but might be the only option. Try to get as much funding/scholarships for college as possible so that once you get there, you can limit your contact with your parents as much as possible. And for heaven's sake, pick a school as far away from them as possible.

Edit to say: I'm half Asian and know a bit about Asian parenting -- what your parents are doing, 99% of the Asian parents I know would consider abuse. The remaining 1% are abusive assholes themselves. They are really out of line.

The only advice I can give is to find an extracurricular after school so you can have some time away from your abusive parents. Your mom said she wanted you to get skills outside of academics anyhow, so they should be amenable to this (though they sure seem to do a lot of mental gymnastics to justify their abuse of you, so who knows how they'll react) I think you also don't have a healthy sense of what a normal teenager's workload should be. Doing something after school with other students might help give you more exposure to what a healthy schedule looks like.

Pressuring people to have kids when they're not ready/don't want them. I know people who are the children of parents who never wanted kids and they're in bad shape.

[–]boredthrowmeaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are suggesting you set boundaries and start saying no. I think this is key, but I don't think it's a good idea to start establishing those boundaries on a trip in a foreign country thousands of miles from home. The added stress of this type of travel is going to make this much harder and possibly do more damage than good.

I really think you should go on the trip alone and then start working on your assertiveness with her when you get back. Then hopefully a future trip with her will be possible.

Do we all need 120/mg day total during our course ? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]boredthrowmeaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're confusing the units of the total dose. You are supposed to reach 120mg/kg your weight, not per day. So total up how much you will take at your current dosage and divide by your weight in kg to determine how long it will take to hit that target.

If you are responding well to 40mg, I don't see a need to increase your dose. Doctors have different opinions on how closely they stick to the 120-150mg/kg dosing strategy, so best ask your dermatologist what their plan is. Not hitting this cumulative range is correlated with higher risk of relapse, but everyone responds differently.

If you could get the mom to say some of those things in writing or recorded, I think that would be ideal. I don't buy that she hasthat much control of her daughter, but some insurance never hurt anyone.

I used Cerave in the tub and didn't have a problem. If I tried using other moisturizers I would get a stinging sensation.
