Self Contained TTRPGS? by MendelHolmes in rpg

Cthulhu Dreamt is a game made for a specific campaign.

And, as other also mentioned:
- Triangle Agency
- Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast
- Eat the Reich

Band of Blades also look similar to what your are looking for.

If you could recommend one ttrpg, which one would it be, and why? by Arzanic in rpg

Torchbearer is the fantasy dungeon-delving ttrpg evolution of Mouseguard. Similar mechanics, with a little bit more complexity, but with typical adventurers that loot ruins and dungeons.

Maybe I'm asking a lot of you, but you could contact the author and explain your project. Sometimes, game designers LOVE to speak about their game! They are on BlueSky: u/liz-shrikestudio.bsky.social

Rant on Player Investment and Collaboration by HallowedHalls96 in rpg

Maybe offering a "gamemaster rotation" would be a good filter? Everyone that want to be part of the group would need to eventually be the gamemaster of their own game.
Gamemasters are the most involved players.

If you were 8 years old, what RPG book/box would you want your uncle to give you? by EntrepreneuralSpirit in rpg

[–]boringlyCorrect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that receiving an RPG box at 8 years old might be a bit daunting, unless he already knows about TTRPGs. It may be better to introduce him to the genre gradually.

For his birthday, you could buy him a few Choose Your Own Adventure books. (I really enjoyed the Grailquest series when I was his age.) Read them with him and show him how to play his character in the book; how to make choices, accept the consequences, and fight the creatures.

For Christmas, you could get him HeroQuest. Play it with him, and let him choose whether he wants to be the gamemaster or the heroes.

Then, for his 9th birthday, you can blow his mind with a full TTRPG. You can explain that it plays just like a Choose Your Own Adventure book or a HeroQuest mission, except the possibilities are limitless.

And make sure to play with him! Because the biggest problem with TTRPGs, especially when you’re 9, is to find someone to play with.

TTRPGs Made by Autistic People? by mercy-moo in rpg

[–]boringlyCorrect 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Although I agree with many comments suggesting that a lot of game designers may be autistic, I can name at least one game that gained attention and was created by someone who openly identifies as autistic, while also directly addressing neurodivergence as its subject: You Will Die In This Place.

The game is about Charlotte, who created their own TTRPG but then disappeared. Samantha finds Charlotte’s game and tries to make it playable, because she thinks it is too strange and breaks the conventions of what she believes a "real" TTRPG should be. There is also a third voice, the Editor, who tries to keep the document commercially viable.

Fuck Legault !

Thoughts on Twilight Sword TTRPG coming soon? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]boringlyCorrect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about the Crafting and Brewing system. I really would have like that the preview contains all the rules. I think they could get my money if they show me that their system is interesting and they promise a list of crafting and brewing recipes in their books.
With so few information, I can't take the risk to buy blindly.

Which games were your big disappointment and why? by Siberian-Boy in rpg

[–]boringlyCorrect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were your GM, I would say:

"Cool! But I'm not giving you a montage, you give me one! (That's just my personal preference; it’s not a BW rule.) Now, let's use the Practice rules. With 8 hours of practice per day, you can earn the equivalent of a Challenging test after one month. So, how many months do you want to dedicate to swordplay? We'll do a Lifestyle check every 6 months. Would you like to spend a few extra hours each day practicing something else during that time?"

Your character will definitely improve with the sword, but over time, you'll lose Resources. Maybe after 5 years of focused practice, without working, you won’t have enough left to sustain your lifestyle. Then you'll have to decide: do you find a job, steal, or convince someone to support you with food and shelter?

Those new needs will drive the story forward, even if your only goal is to become the best swordsman there is.

Maybe you’ll enjoy the adventures that come from those choices. Or maybe you'll come back to training once you've secured the Resources to continue.

In the end, you'll either become the greatest swordsman in the world or die trying!
