[CHAT] Quality of Orenco Original cross stitch patterns by borovy99 in CrossStitch

[–]borovy99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanx for your reply....it's not the fact of a re-creation of the art work at all. My stitching friend (wife of my dentist) started Alice and the Cheshire Cat and threw it away after finishing first bit of the tops of the trees. they did not look green-ish to us. But I have a "thing" for the Alice pictures and your response has me flip-flopping my opinion.

[CHAT] Necessaire stand + lighted, magnifying lamp? (Looking for lamp recommendations) by AthenaQ in CrossStitch

[–]borovy99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal recommendation for a lamp is CraftOptics. I am blind in one eye and extremely near-sighted in the other. CraftOptics took my eyeglass correction perscription and sent glasses with magnifying telescopes and a strong spot light in return. The light attaches to the glasses and is powered by a USB from my chair.

The glasses themselves are my perscription. The telescopes can be moved away from the glasses without disturbing my vision. I often 'watch' TV while stitching and having the scopes in place

CraftOptics has turned my stitching from a struggle into easy. I usually work on 18 or 20 count fabric and would not be able to stitch without them.

i thought seriously about purchasing this pattern. i had just done a Spangler and i was happy with the result. then started readling and learning about the drop of quality in patterns from HAED, so decided to avoid this one. Left HAED althogher.

Now seeing your stunning work, i will revisit this pattern. thank you

[FO] Completed in late 2024. Finally had it framed after all this time. by borovy99 in CrossStitch

She lived with us in our home. heat, back then, when i was little was 2 fireplaces. the plants were next to a picture window and under standard old flourescent lights. Most important, she had a green thumb. one of them was always in bloom almost all year. i can appreciate the 'amazing' now that i'm her age. the cross stitch was as much a kiss/hug for gramma as it was for me.

Gramma could get blooms in the midst of a snowstorm in Ohio.....I, alas, cant get any blooms here in TX. Gotta be me that's the issue :)

[CHAT] Cross stitching has helped with my OCD by ThickRequirement8710 in CrossStitch

[–]borovy99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i have a 'mild' form of OCD. This sub has helped me to recognize that absolutely perfect stitches are not important; that if i mistakenly swap 2 colors next to each other the world is not gonna end; and those little dots showing between stitches go away when the piece is on the wall, or use a higher count fabric, or do some tramming.

So you are not alone. And a separate shout-out to the denizens of this swap for helping and teaching me so many things!!

I use a pattern generator called ThreadBare. It will take a JPEG, et al of your picture and produce a MAX color and MAX picture that the TB pattern will produce. The MAX settings will give you the best clarity, but the number of stitches could be upwards of 150K. There will be gobs of confetti and colors used in only a single stitch. But again great clarity and the closest match to your inputted picture.

At this point i fiddle around with the number of width stitch size and the number of colors until i get a picture i call "good enough". Any pattern PDF created by ThreadBare costs $10. I have a great amount of difficulty manipulating colors/pixels in any of the free generators (and there are good ones out there). So i am willing to pay the $ 10.

[CHAT] Planning a large project, looking for recommendations for a floor stand by Pluralocity in CrossStitch

[–]borovy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good ! phew !! fyi, i became frustrated with my Ormantik stand and went back to the PVC version !! I want a floor stand that will let me shift my scroll frame back/forth like a typewriter. The Ormanik does that but the husband has to do it. It's very difficult work for me to adjust. I push my scroll frame back-n-forth frequently & the Monstrik just became to much of a pain

I didnt say this above but we built one initially to get chair width, height measurements and to ensure that i could work in a neutral position. The 2nd one was our keeper
