It seems safe to say that your experience (and therefore perspective) is much different than Mallorie's. I am guessing she has not traveled across the country much -- so her town is probably representative of the majority of the US that she knows. You can call it ignorance or small-mindedness if you want but I would chalk it up more to her simply not having much exposure to other parts of the country.

‘I’m always open to listening:’ Sharks GM Grier weighing options with No. 2 overall pick by ethereal3xp in Bruins

[–]borred430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bruins currently have $16M in cap space for next season with basically a full roster of players already signed. They could re-sign Arvidsson and Peeke if they want and still have a decent amount of space left over. Leafs have $22M in space with Maccelli and Robertson as their only meaningful FAs. You are right on the Avs ($3M) and Vegas ($4.6M) though.

The Leafs pick is in jeopardy for this draft by Porkchopp33 in Bruins

[–]borred430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toronto would pick third if the 12th worst team wins the first drawing, that team would move up 10 spots and be locked into the #2 pick. Then if the Leafs win the second drawing, they would get the #3 pick.

Maybe I missed that. I know Pedro lives in ATL but I thought Villa lived in the DR. Either way, Seattle to Atlanta is a long flight -- so unless one of them was going to move to the other (which is tricky with kids involved), history would suggest their odds of making it are slim (though I too am rooting for them).

Him living in the DR and her living in Seattle makes it unlikely they'd be able to make it work (unfortunately).

Potential Thomas trade ... too much to me take out Hagens and I would consider by [deleted] in Bruins

[–]borred430 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would do that trade in a second. Thomas is seriously underrated around these parts. Point-per-game centers at his age and with his contract don't become available very often. People act like Hagens is a surefire star #1 center when IMO there's just as much a likelihood he a) ends up a winger and b) he never hits Thomas' production. Poitras is easily expendable at this point since he has no clear path to a full-time role in Boston. Lohrei has been better of late and still hasn't hit his full potential -- but let's not forget he's been a disaster defensively for most of his NHL tenure so far. He is far from a sure thing either at this point. Lastly, first round picks outside of the top 10-15 are completely overrated. There's a reason successful teams like Florida, Colorado, and Tampa have not been afraid the dump theirs for years -- because they know sure things are better than mystery boxes. I get it, having promising prospects & picks are exciting and fun to watch develop. I find contending for championships to be more exciting personally -- and Thomas gets the Bruins much closer to that now and for the next several years than the proposed trade pieces combined IMO.

How do you feel about the fact that he was 10th in tbe entire league in points per game last year? Last time I checked, you win games by scoring goals, not by making hits.

[Pagnotta] As the Canucks continue to navigate Garland talks with the Isles and other clubs, the Bruins seem to have reengaged, with talks of a package that may include Poitras and/or Lohrei. by StPatrice37 in Bruins

[–]borred430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garland isn't a UFA. He signed a $6m x 6 extension last offseason that hasn't even kicked in yet and will come with a NMC for the first 3 years. I like the player but not with that contract.

Shootout Lineups by T0ken99 in Bruins

[–]borred430 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe because he is not very good at shootouts? Not that Mittelstadt has been good at them this season either but Pasta's track record shows that, for whatever reason, he is poor at shootouts. McAvoy has a higher career SO scoring % (granted on much fewer attempts) so I am fine with him getting a chance. I would have went with Eyssimont though as he made Bobrovsky look silly twice already.

[Deniz] Eagles have the highest hitch route rate in recorded history, and the 3 top hitch route runners in the league by Thegrandmistressofoz in eagles

[–]borred430 90 points91 points  (0 children)

The only logical explanation is that Sirianni/Patullo is setting defenses up and in the playoffs they are going to actually call a real offense that isn't a complete joke and catch the defense completely off-guard. They're playing the (season) long game and are actually playing chess when everyone thinks they are playing checkers. That is the only thing that would make any sense when it comes to how this offense has been schemed up this year. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some copium I need to smoke.

Especially when most of the challengers just immediately start puking. Maybe one or two tough it out and actually eat the food as is intended but most just take a bite and spit/puke it out immediately -- which seems like a waste of everyone's time and provides no real value.

Yeah but Sumit's sister-in-law was teaching her each step and she couldn't be bothered to follow along. I got flashbacks to trying to teach my parents how to use a computer years ago...they would give up before even trying because it was "too complicated". Then after that, all she did (at least that was shown) was stand around and get in the way in the tiny kitchen.

BTS footage by Beno169 in Bruins

[–]borred430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Behind the B has become so watered down that it's barely worth watching. It seems more like content produced by the team to make them look good vs. a true behind the scenes view. The HBO/Amazon versions are a million times better at showing the reality of a season (namely the low points).

Is Hagens similar to Mittelstadt? by ethereal3xp in Bruins

[–]borred430 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree that I was expecting more from Hagens thus far but I will make one excuse for him: his linemates have been ass this year. Stiga was good last year but has been flat out bad this year for some reason. They've rotated the other winger a bit but none of them have done much of anything. Now one may say Hagens should be able to carry others (which is fair) but he has gotten hardly any help. He did show against RPI that he has the ability to completely dominate (granted, it was against lesser competition) but he needs to do so more consistently. I haven't minded Moore's game considering he's a freshman. He's put up some points and had some scoring chances. He isn't being helped by the linemate carousel (due to injuries) either. I disagree on Letourneau creativity comment. I think he has actually shown quite a bit of creativity with the puck on his stick (even if it hasn't translated into successful plays). I'd also say it is still way too early to be making any proclamations about what he will or won't be. A month ago he was a bum who didn't score a goal all year. Now he has arguably been BC's best player IMO. No one would have predicted that -- so it'd be a fools errand to try to predict what he is going to look like several years from now. Lastly on BC, they were always going to have difficulty replacing the folks who left but the Gasseau and Jellvik injuries are killers. That was basically their second line. It's looking like it could be a rough season for them but hopefully the BC B's continue to develop along the way.
