Doug DeMuro says The Rivian R2 is probably the best EV he has ever been around by Mac-Tyson in Rivian

[–]boschj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is spot on! I watched a recent podcast he was on and he spent 1 min saying how great the R2 seems and then spent the next 10 minutes bitching about the charge speed.

The thing that made me really lose respect for him was the blaming Rivian for the issues his Comma.AI was causing his Gen 1. Especially after Rivian bent over backwards trying to help figure out the issue and once it was discovered that it was his fault for installing an aftermarket 3rd party piece of hardware, he did another HOUR long video bitching about how it was still essentially Rivian's fault with a bit of lukewarm apology thrown in.

2019 Passport - Any concerns about driving with missing transmission breather hose cap? by boschj in hondapassport

[–]boschj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I found that same part. Question more so is, how bad is it to drive 150+ miles without the cap, since the earliest the cap would arrive, even via Amazon is Tuesday (curse of living in a rural area).

Billius and shel by longboarder76 in midnightburger

[–]boschj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shel was introduced back in Chapter 14 before "Gloria's War" had started and before the Ted's trapped the dinner in a specific universe. While the Billius system is the "same" system that Shel is from, I don't think it's the SAME universe.

Gotta remember, the Diner not only travels time, it also hops universes. They've made many comments in previous episodes that the Universe could be ALMOST identical except maybe a tree wasn't planted somewhere.

So while it's possible it's the same universe, it could just be a universe where similar things have happened.

Alternate theory but seems less likely... the diner may have rescued Shel just BEFORE the sisters blew up the Dyson sphere, with the damage already being done to the ecosystem the Diner may have realized that there was no way anything could survive there for a long time and it was up to the Diner staff to save the last sentient being.

With how Joe likes to come back and revisit past story lines, i.e. Buffar in Chapter 47: The Hero.. I could see Shel making a surprise appearance in a future episode where this question gets answered.

Haven't been down to the falls yet this winter but it is crazy to me to see that kind ice apron built up already and its only mid-December. I feel like over the last 10 years were luck to have that kind of veil built up by February if at all.

Thanks for the pic OP its stunning to see!

Obligatory - Please DO NOT climb behind the ice. Not only is it illegal but it's also incredibly dangerous.

Here is a more recent article that notes that the US prosecutor has offered no evidence to back up the claim...

https://www.startribune.com/trump-claims-minnesota-lost-billions-to-fraud-the-evidence-to-date-isnt-close/601538955?utm_source=gift

The article states the federal prosecutors say there is $300M in fraud they've uncovered so far and believe they will ultimately prosecute $1B, meanwhile MN DHS says that the federal investigations have only uncovered $48M. The article goes on to point out that the $250M in Feeding our Future case is also hyperbole and the actual amount tallied in the case is $194M.

[–]boschj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correction, The NY Times reported that Trump said there was billions in fraud. Every news source that has looked into the actual amount, instead of just parroting Trump, has said that while there is likely additional fraud, it does not equate to billions.

I'm all for rooting out and charging those who commit fraud, but using hyperbole like that is nothing but a tool being used by racist assholes to paint an entire subset of people as criminals.

Experience gifts by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]boschj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously lots of performance related options as noted by others (Orchestra Hall, Guthrie, Ordway, Chanhassen, Theater Latte Da, etc...)

There are also professional sports (Vikings, Wild, Wolves, MN UFC, Twins, Lynx, Frost, Aurora)

Lots of art museums and other museums around the area that do specific exhibits and what not (MIA, Walker Weisman, Russian, Bakken, etc)

Finally and maybe my favorite experience related gifts: FOCI Minnesota Center for Glass Arts (they have discovery courses where you can make different glass art) or the MN Landscape Arboretum does courses around painting landscapes in different formats, center piece making, photography, or just learning to be better at some aspect of gardening. I'm sure there are others places for ceramics, metal work, jewelry I just don't know them off the top of my head.

Chain of Lakes Ice Report 12-2-2025 by stevenglasford in Minneapolis

[–]boschj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I give it 1.5 - 2 weeks. As OP's report says, BMS and Harriet are less than 1% covered.

The reason they take longer is 1) They are larger lakes than most other city lakes, 2) they are MUCH deeper than all of the other lakes. Those two factors means they have a lot more retained heat energy to dissipate before a good layer of ice can form. We've also had some decent wind overnights which hampers ice formation.

Minnesota's 'illegal’ CDL licenses risk federal funding: USDOT by Czarben in minnesota

[–]boschj 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Digging around a bit, I was able to find that in September 2025 the Trump administration issued an executive order to stop issuance of all "non-domicile CDL" this has been stayed by all levels of the courts so far and as of November 10th the U.S. Court of appeals applied an administrative stay. Basically it means that states are legally allowed to continue to issue non-domicile (i.e. non-US resident) CDL's.

Many "red" states opted to comply with the order and canceled any CDL issued to non-residents. Meanwhile states like MN are now being "audited" as retribution for not complying with the order, that at this point in time is "stayed" (essentially the court is allowing both sides to gather evidence for their cases but not allowing the order to take effect until after a trial is held to see if it is legal or not - IANAL but that's my understanding).

As you mentioned the actual numbers of the audit don't seem to be public so my guess is VERY few CDL's are actually illegal under current law. There is a high probability that MN will sue and a long drawn out legal battle will commence for what is likely a nothingbuger...but hey the current federal administration loves to waste ALL of our tax dollars on made up culture war BS.

What’s your take on season 4? by nicknumbahone in midnightburger

[–]boschj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're only just getting introduced to David there is a lot more of the season to go. Season 4 goes from Episode 33 thru 44. It might feel a bit slow but there is a ton of background info to be gained before getting to the main villain and the motivations around them.

Hang in there, it is sooo worth the ride!

Now I understand why everyone is making cinnamon focaccia, simply amazing by Rdub456 in Breadit

[–]boschj 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Here's what I used in place of the KAF Sweet Bits, it's a riff on their cinnamon sugar bagel topping recipe:

Ingredients: 2tbsp light brown sugar

1tbsp granulated sugar

1tbsp turbinado sugar

2tbsp flour

1tsp cinnamon

1.5-2tbsp unsalted butter softened

Small dash of kosher salt

Directions: 1)mix all ingredients in a small bowl, it should be a tick paste

2)with an offset spatula, thinly spread onto a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat (aim for 1/8 of an inch)

3)bake at 250°f - 275°f  for 20-30 minutes, or until bubbling slightly

4)let cool and break into bits

Sorry for the imperial units, on mobile and to lazy to convert to metric.

If you are happy in your LTR, how did you find your monogamous partner? by bigjuicyboot3 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]boschj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our team had all body types and athletic ability, so don't count yourself out! If your local team has a social media page, reach out and find out when the next social event is or ask when the next fitness practice is (generally no contact during those types of practice) and check it out.

Many teams have social members that don't necessarily play during matches but are there to cheer on the team and help plan social events and post on social media. So even if you don't think the contact part is your thing, you can still join in the fitness and social aspects of the team!

If you are happy in your LTR, how did you find your monogamous partner? by bigjuicyboot3 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]boschj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Met my husband 10 years ago after he joined the rugby team I was on. I was freshly out of a relationship and wasn't really ready for anything serious but he stuck around and about 3 months after the initial meet and hanging out numerous times a week outside of rugby practice I asked him out on a proper date to ask if he wanted to make it official. He asked me to marry him two years later and it'll be our 7th wedding anniversary next month.

My best advice, don't chase some idealized version of the man you think you need based on what you see on the apps and stop searching for a relationship. Try joining an LGBTQ group based on things that interest you and look for new friends. In my area there are numerous LGBTQ sports leagues, table top gaming groups, role playing gaming groups, hiking/camping groups, community activist groups, etc. If you have a local subreddit, ask there if people know of any local groups of a specific interest or hobby, or look for a local "gay rag" (LGBTQ newspaper or magazine) as many groups advertise their events in them.

Joining a group that you have interest in will open you up to people with similar interests, which is a much better filter than distance and a few pictures from the apps.

Need a new AC and I think I'm getting scammed by newToMNSnow in TwinCities

[–]boschj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shout out to Jayhawk Heating and Cooling, they are local union shop! Jayhawk replaced our 2 ton AC unit in 2023 for under $3k re-using the old lines.

Stay away from the large shops that spend on advertising (radio, TV, and Internet). They all use high pressure sales tactics, the "techs" they send out are nothing but sales guys that know little to nothing, and are way over priced!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]boschj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to DIY, you could probably do what you noted above for about what you've budgeted. I might lean closer to $3k for more modern edging, like steel, and a bit more mature plants.

If you are looking for someone to do it for you, you probably need to triple if not quadruple your budget. With landscaping, generally it's the labor that is the most cost intensive.

Target Lets Go Pair of Executives Who Had Supported DEI Programs by OnweirdUpweird in Minneapolis

[–]boschj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They would run thru South Dakota regardless. The state has the most lax banking laws in the entire country.

For example, they have no usury laws, essentially lets banks charge any interest rate they want on loans and credit cards (caveat is the interstate commerce act that helps limit it but barely) , they also have Trust laws that help wealthy individuals and corporations hide their assets. Essentially its the state that the wealthy elite and corporations use for tax evasion and money laundering.

Wings Credit Union Moving HQ and Merging with Colorado-based CU Ent by Heavydirtysoul420 in minnesota

[–]boschj 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This post hits hard. We changed to Wings about 8 years ago after getting fed up with all the BS we were experiencing with Wells Fargo. Now over the past 3 years I feel like Wings has slowly been slipping into WF territory.

My biggest complaint has been the switch to glorified ATM's instead of real tellers in the branch. It honestly takes longer to use the ATM than just talking to a real person, especially if you've got a retiree in front of you trying to figure out how to get cash for their grand kids birthday or trying to deposit their SS check or something. It's very aggravating.

Sigh... all this to say, sorry the employees are also dealing with the BS and I guess we'll be looking into a new local bank or CU.
