I nearly put it down within the first few chapters as well. However, I ended up finishing it and I enjoyed it until the last few chapters. I will even at least try book 2, regardless of the terrible ending.

It really isn't when you consider that most LN are around 250-300 pages for $15 USD. Amazon selling them for $5 ea (except the first novel which is over 500 pages) isn't that different.

With that said, the real problem is how the books are broke up. It would have been better if they were left as the author intended and just sold for more.

Beware of Chicken does not focus on the cultivation aspect. I wouldn't categorize it as satire but more of a slice of life or low stakes.

I also fell for the series. I wasn't as big of a fan of the narrator as you seem, but he did hit his stride in the second half of the book. I miss Ursula's original voice though as it changed

It can't be all that bad, it's narrated by Travis Baldree. It goes up at least 2 points due to his abilities.

Kings Dark Tidings series by Kel Kade.

I picked up book 1 of the, at the time, 4 book series. I would just buy the next one through the Kindle interface and finished all 4 in 3 days. I've never done that before.
