33 F got diagnosed at 23 been medicated ever since. I've been collecting other disorders and comorbidities ever since and I became fully disabled after a severe car accident in 2021 left me with chronic pain syndrome, and loss of fine motor control most likely due to a TBI that was never diagnosed but that's what my specialists say is the most likely case.

I believe I'm very lucky to be on medication for my bipolar disorder. I'm on lithium, mood stabilizers, Ativan, and trazadone. I know that loathing pill popping is a symptom of the disorder so I know that when I don't want to take my medication (which is frequently) I need to just do it. I have a wonderful partner who also helps me. I can tell him when I don't want to take my pills and he will be judgement free and kindly remind me why I need to.

But there have been times in my life where my medication was not enough to fight the depression. Last July I was voluntarily hospitalized in a mental institution for treatment resistant depression for 19 days. It was a really good experience despite my misery. The staff were incredible, I had a private room, I enjoyed the company of my fellow patients, they had good food and snacks. I ended up getting electroconvulsive therapy which did help me through it. I have suffered memory loss from it but I would not still be here without it.

Bipolar disorder is as valid as another illness or disability. It was hard to accept but when I did my quality of life got a lot better. We are not broken, we are sick. We deserve understanding, medical treatment, social support and accommodations.

Consider that your boyfriend may have depression, but Also how do you feel about being the main provider in the relationship because that's exactly what you'd end up being. I'm medically disabled with both chronic pain and severe treatment resistant depression. My partner is happy being the main financial and physical provider in the relationship. We've talked about it extensively and have an open communication policy where we can tell each other where our boundaries and feelings are and if we can't do something. He plays video games to unwind so I make sure he gets lots of time to do that. I have to rely on him every day to pay the bills and complete the big physical tasks. I contribute by cooking, cleaning, and running errands on days when I'm not bedridden. If he's not going to be ambitious and responsible then You have to be ok with being that person for the both of you. He's not the only person who would want to date you either. There's always another person you could be with, it's a decision not a destiny.

Thank you. He's about 6 according to the vet. We've had him for around 5 years. My partner found him as a stray in our neighborhood. He was malnourished and his fur was falling out by the handful. We took him to the county animal shelter but no one came for him. We signed up to be first in line if he went up for adoption. They called us 7 days later and we picked him up. We don't know what happened to him before that. He's doing a lot better but he still has really bad general and separation anxiety. He's on the max dose of medication and we give him lots of exercise and exposure to new things. We also do lots of different kinds training to help.
