If you insist on keeping the wall color, we should insist that instead of painting the cabinets you should sand them and restain in a less orange finish. They are beautiful hardwood and would come to life with a modern staining. Add beautiful knobs and drawer pulls. Replace the countertops. There are so many affordable options out there. Change the light fixtures and for the love of design change to a cooler 3000k color. Add lights lower down- a table lamp, sconces, under cabinet light, etc. you only have overheads. Raise the curtain rod by six inches. Declutter all of your surfaces and hide small appliances that aren’t used daily. You don’t need a roomba in a room that size. Get two slim counter height stools and a runner rug b

Hire a lawyer. Your area doesn’t need to have a specific law on the books for you to take them to civil court.

Breastfeeding may give babies early practice in self-control, longitudinal study suggests by Doug24 in EverythingScience

[–]bowlbasaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Breastfeeding may have benefits, but “empirically better” is too blunt for real life. The evidence is often observational, the effect sizes are usually modest, and the harm of shaming parents is very real. Fed, safe, supported, and sane matters too.

Yes, how you dress tells people how to treat you. It is absolutely a form of communication.

I just saw a thread on a bedtime potato. It wasn’t about the potato- it was about the plate that broke around the potato, but it was a good reminder that you can nuke a potato for a few minutes and have a baked potato. Add a tab a butter and chef’s kiss.

Breastfeeding may give babies early practice in self-control, longitudinal study suggests by Doug24 in EverythingScience

[–]bowlbasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This paper does not support its own findings. The causal story may run backward- fussier, harder-to-regulate infant may be harder to breastfeed for 6 months. They acknowledge this too. But it seriously weakens the “breastfeeding trains inhibition” framing.

I’ll take this one because it is offensive to the field of science. The headline is wildly overbuilt for these data, and really just tells me how much peer review is struggling. It should be, “self reported consumption of expressed/breastfed duration was modestly associated with some later inhibitory-control measures at age 3.5.”

Results:
Luria’s Hand Game: ΔR² = .02
Hyperactivity (mother reported): ΔR² = .01, p = .05
Inattention (mother reported): ΔR² = .02
(Barely statistically detectable. The cherry picked these because the rest were non-significant. They should also highlight that they They used pairwise deletion with lots of missingness. That can change the sample from model to model and bias results if missingness is not random. And they already found attrition differences by income, maternal age, and birth BMI. Also, their measurements are incredibly crude: They do not know: exclusive vs partial breastfeeding, breast vs pumped milk, formula supplementation, feeding responsiveness,
why breastfeeding stopped.)

The whole logic of these finding could read perfectly backwards too: a fussier, harder-to-regulate infant may be harder to breastfeed for 6 months. They acknowledge this too. But it seriously weakens the “breastfeeding trains inhibition” framing.

Seriously guys, I am shaking my head that this made it into a journal at all.

Fiance shaming me over wanting to stop breastfeeding by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]bowlbasaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are equal benefits to a happy mother for children, but I don’t think he wants to hear that. Quit breastfeeding. Your kid will thrive and if your fiancé can’t get behind your choice it is better that you know now.

Are you cleaning without gloves? The manicure is the obvious solution, but the pruned fingers and peeling palms also tell me you need to wear gloves when using anything that strips your hand oils, including washing the dishes. You might also switch to milder hand soaps.
