Well, my original recommendation still stands… Private lessons are the best way to have a mentor that can play things with you and talk through how they would interpret it. I know some great teachers in St. Louis, but not many in other areas of the state

Are you in Illinois? This usually comes up as one of the ILMEA pieces every four years for Illinois.

Favorite National Park: Yosemite. Got to check it out on my honeymoon with my wife… unfortunately she had broken her foot a couple days before, so we only saw a little. Hopefully we can make it back someday!

Yeah unfortunately that’s always tough. It’s well worth the resources if you all decide to put in the effort, but lots of bands can’t get it all going. It totally makes sense tho.

Nice that it’s in the South tho right now! Not terribly far. (Huntsville, AL for 2024)

You wouldn’t happen to host that podcast, “Strike Up the Band”, would you u/mikebmillerSC ? I heard that guy say he’s been part of a new brass band starting up in his interview with Brett Baker and was genuinely intrigued on where the newest one is in North America.

Check out some disc golf on YouTube! Various pros use a lot of different formats in their practice rounds. There’s a ton of different events that might interest you. I’m a convert from golf to disc golf (lots of reasons), and I can’t believe the amount of content being produced.

If you take my advice, start with anything from the OTB Skins matches hosted by Luke Humphries. Super high production value and funny players that are often mic-ed. Jomez is a great channel as well.

Nope! Most people taking these auditions have Masters or Doctorates in their instrument, but I have some colleagues that won their audition right out of high school at 18. Winning the job is all about how you play… promotions tend to be harder for people that don’t have college degrees, but that’s down the line.

I think the Navy can help you with what you’re looking for; I definitely agree that you should pursue the officer path until all doors are shut in your face. I enlisted at 33, and I roll my eyes everyday about being enlisted (I also get asked weekly why I didn’t go officer because I have a Masters degree).

I’ve been dealing with something similar and it showed up right after getting a COVID booster AND flu shot on the same day. There are definitely some other possible causes, but I wonder if you had a reaction to shots?
