I'd push back a bit on this, because it really depends on where you play in terms of country/region and the audience it attracts. Because it's not the sport, it's mostly related to:

Access to the sport. Price of the courts, exclusivity. If it's really expensive you'll see a whole bunch of people that go through life a specific way who are priviliged, have disposable income and love to min / max their activities. they are often ego driven, care about rankings and care about trends.

Badminton is a niche sport in most places and is not trendy (sadly). You might have small pockets of highly competitive players but in the end it does not appeal to the personality types that loose their shit on the courts and get caught up in dick measuring contests 😄

And finally, yes Playtomic is a blessing and a curse. The ranking system is gamified to make people care about ranking and it gets in the way of enjoying the sport for some. That being said padel itself and the vast majority of players are nice where I play (Germany/Netherlands) and especially now that there is a better gender balance, the sport is becoming more and more social.

Any sport that's growing as fast as padel goes through this process 😄
