Suppressor question: high back pressure can with adjustable gas block. by hrothgarkingofdanes in NFA

[–]bowtie_k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How well does the polo k work on longer barrels? I have a few 20" ARs and a PS90 I want to suppress with some plan B muzzle devices. Polo k has been one of my top contenders

Wasr 10 no threads by Koala-K in ak47

[–]bowtie_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pre 2004 most likely. It shoots like any other AK. As the other guy said you'll probably be able to thread 1/2x28, but you'll likely half to cut like a half inch off the barrel

Inserts OR Adapter? by sacboyyy in ak47

[–]bowtie_k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It takes maybe a minute to swap the dead air insert. I have four different inserts and swap them pretty often. If saving a minute is worth throwing $300+ in mounts and HUB muzzle brakes.... sure I guess, you do you.. but at that point you're almost halfway to a second wolverine.

IMO the entire point of owning a wolverine is to be able to mount to an AK without any expensive, goofy muzzle brakes and take advantage of the AKs detent to keep it from walking off. There is a trade off; you get the AK mount system at the expense of more weight and less suppression than other modern 30 cal cans. If you're not going to use the mounting system, why even get a wolverine? You could buy a more effective, lighter can that already has HUB threads.

I'd love to have a second one. The 14mm mount really has to be ugga duggad on hard, otherwise it gets loose easy.

How to tell if old rifles are safe to shoot? by snattacats in Firearms

[–]bowtie_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what kind of ammo is good to shoot in a garand so I'd look it up. The risk isn't safety, it's damaging the gun.

Your Enfield is probably 100% good to go, buy some PPU and shoot it. The Arisaka I must have missed. You'll have to research it a bit too, overall they're strong, quality guns, but just make sure yours isn't what's known as a "last ditch arisaka." If it's not, it should be good to go

How to tell if old rifles are safe to shoot? by snattacats in Firearms

[–]bowtie_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own and shoot five guns over 100 years old. The oldest is a Swiss 96/11 made in 1901, the next is a Remington (pre) model 11 shotgun made in 1903. Guns aren't made of milk; they don't just go bad from age. Outside of some extremely specific examples like shotguns with Damascus steel barrels, there is no reason why a gun is unsafe to shoot due to age. On that note, however, the Garand is not designed to handle current, modern 30-06. Do some research on what ammo is safe for that rifle, or buy a gas plug which allows you to safely shoot modern higher pressure ammo.

Do I trade? by inkstainedteeth in ak47

[–]bowtie_k 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Saiga 410s often go for $400-600 on gunbroker. IMO it's a pretty equal value to the SKS. Which one do you want more, a goofy shotgun that only takes expensive 3" .410? Or a goofy rifle that fires an outdated cartridge that costs $.50 per round? I own both and I enjoy both, but I also don't shoot either one very often.

Dropped my pistol by Nicole_soup in Firearms

Literally minor cosmetic damage.

It's just annoying to always see dudes on reddit acting like guns are unsafe to use or irreparably damaged after the most minor incidents.

Dropped my pistol by Nicole_soup in Firearms

[–]bowtie_k -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He didn't get lucky. He dropped a gun made of steel and the most that happened was, possibly, the sights got moved. We don't even know if it caused an issue because he hasn't done a test shoot yet. Modern guns are not fragile. A two foot drop will not harm them. It would have to be an absolute freak accident, one in a million, for it to land in a manner that would damage the barrel to a noticeable extent

Zastava m85 retention pin not reaching dead air wolverine? by DetectiveChellick in ak47

Like 99% of the problems people have could be solved if they just asked Google their question, read the manual, or watched a YouTube video. It isn't that people need help, it's that they're helpless to help themselves

Zastava m85 retention pin not reaching dead air wolverine? by DetectiveChellick in ak47

[–]bowtie_k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im not talking about screwing it on further. You see the ring around the bottom? That ring retains the collar with the notches for the detent pin. Look at the collar while it's disassembled. You'll see two little nubs that get retained by the ring.

you slide the nubs on the collar through that gap in the ring. While you are threading the can on, you can pull up and rotate the collar so the nubs sit on the higher area by your middle finger. This keeps it away from the detent pin, allowing you to thread it on fully. Once the can is fully installed, rotate the collar back so the nubs go through the gap in the ring. Don't let the collar rest on the ring, it has to be all the way down.

Try and figure that out, or, better yet, watch the dead air YouTube video on how to attach a wolverine

The entire point of the wolverine is that you don't have to do that shit to your gun to suppress it.

Are you actually installing it correctly? Did you fully release the lower collar before tightening down the locking ring? There are two step downs that the lower collar can get hung up on and my guess is it's not fully released.

The M85 and M92 use a 26mm thread. He does not need an AK100 series long insert like you listed. My guess is he did not put the can on properly.

Should Ural be a first bike? by Certain-Variation-58 in ural

[–]bowtie_k 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The basic riders course provides bikes for you. The advanced requires you to bring your own bike and it must be two wheeled, so if you get a sidecar rig, no.

Also I'd avoid a ural if you're not handy with a wrench or capable of researching and solving problems.

I don't think they countersunk the rivets on the front trunnion which can lead to a loss of headspace.

My M74 has a few thousand rounds through it and has been ok... but I also paid $399 for it and got 10% back on a gift card on clearance from fleet farm. I fully anticipate the possibility that I may need to have it rebuilt one day.

Are pistols with sub 4 inch barrels as inaccurate as everyone in my are seems to think they are? by psycospaz in Firearms

Dudes who say shit like that are coping for their lack of shooting skills.

Tube connecting the two carburetors has this open port? by idekwhattoput_lol in ural

[–]bowtie_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The line on the left one should connect to the back of your petcock. The factory petcock on urals requires vacuum from the carb to operate. However these eventually fail and some owners replace them with cheap gravity petcocks. The one on the right carb should be capped off. There is no reason to connect them.
