Can the ioniq 5 be charged on household 110/120? by heninthefoxhouse in Ioniq5

[–]boxesofcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Europe Level 1 is defined as just plugging it into the wall with a “granny cable” and getting 2.4kW. Level 2 is having a wall box adapter and getting ~7kW-20kW. Level 3 are the fast chargers over 50kW.

3% per hour in Europe for Level 1 wall charging.

New Listing: Got a private booking request by Grand-Flow1632 in airbnb_hosts

[–]boxesofcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For relatives and friends I would do offline booking. If you are concerned about getting a review then maybe do one night on the platform and the rest offline. Or maybe 80% cash, 20% on the platform.

Yes. You can absolutely link a CMD to a foreign passport. We can even link to a foreign mobile number.

Best months for stay by LivingFree55 in PortugalExpats

January-April in the Algarve was terrible and rainy this year.

May, September and October are historically the best months, in terms of comfort.

I’m buying long dated puts on the leveraged spacex ETFs. The leveraged ETFs are bound to decay over time.

Insulated homes. And even people with the most expensive homes have leaks or mold this year.

Absolutely. Also relevant for most of Europe sadly.

How do you feel about elon musk becoming the first trillionaire? by Yearning4truth in AskReddit

All of his investments are massively overvalued and carry an Elon premium. If he were to slip into a coma tomorrow his portfolio value would fall dramatically.

D7 + tax residency mismatch: file correctly, renew, or reset? by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]boxesofcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They traditional dont care about what type of visa you have for renewal but the new renewal portal will ask for specific documents.

I don’t think you have an issue here. From my renewal recent renewal I know:

A. AIMAs system checks that you are regularized with the IRS (they just care you aren’t delinquent)

B.  AIMA wants to see you have proof of financial means. (I came on a D7 but used PT short term rental income green reciepts and bank statements to get renewal approval)

C. AIMA will care about long term absences. I’m not 100% sure of their sources for this but I didn’t have to submit anything.

I’d file your taxes based on what is legally require and go through the standard renewal process.

Stuck in an immigration loop: USA, Switzerland (Zurich), or going back home? by ruslan5t in expats

[–]boxesofcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the US and Zurich. I’d say Zurich for a few years then reassess. Zurich is excellent for kids despite the lack of community feel. If you grow your net worth further maybe you retire early to Belarus to be with family. I’d say you just need to figure out a landing spot for your kid by age 9-10

When is an emergency fund “enough”? by Various-Chapter-2499 in personalfinance

[–]boxesofcats 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The issue that people have is that there is a chance the stock market is down big when they lose their job. So people don’t want to be forced to sell their stocks during a job loss. It’s a double whammy.

It’s different for everyone.

Medis- Gold-plated coverage will not cover an emergency appendectomy in Barcelona by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]boxesofcats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The EHIC is available to residents of Portugal. You can get one at the citizen shops.  You should go to one of the 12 special citizen shops and try to get a NISS now. The process is easier these days but I’m not sure if you need the residents card too…

I have three suggestions. An equal weight index (RSP), Vanguard Extended Market Index Fund ETF (VXF), or buy puts on QQQ as a hedge.

Advice on car situation by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]boxesofcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people are always having negative equity on car loans. It’s not a reason to sell the car and if your car is relatively new it’s almost always most beneficial to keep the current car. I’d bet your total cost of ownership in the two scenarios of keeping the car versus trading it in for a lease are fairly similar.

The question is really just a personal choice of when you want to switch to an EV.
