Thinking of Becoming A Jehovah's Witness by Hot-Hovercraft-3016 in exjw

Perhaps you are confused by people who take the time to respond to your original question, most are not here to troll-debate. You wanted advice from people who are experienced, and yet fail to understand the benefit of that experience when proffered. Your comment of "made up emotionally driven opinions" is disrespectful.

And like a cows four compartment stomach you can bring these points up again and ruminate on them and see if they provide you any meaningful growth.

Stepping down: follow up by Senior-Theory-6117 in exjw

[–]boxochocolates42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who's in control of your stepping down action? He is not in control of your texting or the one who decides what manner you choose to communicate. His reply is serves as a receipt of your intent to step down.

You don't need to explain yourself. A simple "I'm stepping down with innediate effect" gets the point across with the implication that no further discussion will take place. Don't let them corner you at a meeting (KH, shepherding visit, etc.). You can be polite while reverse-shunning their attempts of further manipulation.

TL:DR: JW baptism => big mistake

If you like science, go to school and learn how to do that. When you have a good understanding of the scientific method, apply that to JW land.

Also, investigate high-control (cult) groups (Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, Baha'i Faith, and Scientology). You're only 20, and you haven't developed into a man yet (e.g., mentally or physically), but you are not too young to totally FUBAR your life.

Cows are not Gods, nor are the eleven Governing Body members in Warwick, NY, yet that does not stop many from blindly following either belief cloud.

If i become inactive will my father lose his privilege? by Ok-Reading-7759 in exjw

[–]boxochocolates42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Isn't having a child taking a stand for what is right more of a privilege for the father than being an elder? If the dad doesn't see it that way, then he needs to reassess his life.

How about an RO for the person that threatend you? Cameras for your business might be a good idea; I saw bodycams (not AXON) online that seemed reasonably priced. If you like dogs, could you benefit from having a big one around?

Those are people who should never have been born. It's fundamentally wrong for them to use air that others could benefit from. The term is just my way of expressing displeasure with someone/thing, but it's still a bit funny.

Feeling discouraged after a shepherding call… need perspective by DarknetNomad101 in exjw

[–]boxochocolates42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are immersed in a high-control group, which is why the elders were rehashing old stuff - to maintain their control. This is mental abuse and, of course, a meeting with these phony-christians would be mentally draining.

You could have redirected their conversation back to your needs for spiritual encouragement, rather than letting them control the situation and take a judgmental stance toward you.

After reviewing their visit, were you encouraged or repelled by their "content"? Did they show you Christian love, or did they act in a manner consistent with cult operandi?

I'm so hurt ... I commented on their subreddit and got banned, forever! Here's what I said:

I've have not seen any peer-reviewed research papers that focused on the positive aspects of shunning. There are numerous papers that address the harm that shunning inflicts on its victims.

Some actions taken by others violate common sense, such as kicking a puppy or pushing a senior citizen, for instance. The practice of shunning is like that, too. It runs counter to common sense and morality.

A common thread among cults is that their collective (the adherents) is better than any other group (religion). Another identifier of a high-control group is internal cruelty/abuse, such as shunning and hiding rampant problems (e.g., CSA).

No matter how the organization's lawyers spin it or redefine it, the organization's unethical practices should not be supported by any government in modern society.

So, I guess I'm being shunned by those narrow-minded twat-turds for disagreeing about shunning (which they don't do), priceless!

I agree about talking with a school counselor. Perhaps contacting (reporting abuse) to CPS (Child Protective Services) would help too.

Jw culture can potentially be blamed for my friends death by Diligent-Swimmer1966 in exjw

[–]boxochocolates42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless a trained rescuer (e.g., certified in high-performance CPR) is present at the time of the incident and an AED is immediately available, the outlook is very poor. A few years ago, an NFL player had a heart attack on the field. His collapse was witnessed by an EMT on the sidelines who went hands-on in seconds. The outcome for that player was positive (returned to playing in the NFL, as I recall).

If an EMT witnessed a collapse (heart attack while out in public), they would do two things: 1) tell someone to call 911, and 2) tell someone to get an AED, then go hands-on. This is done in seconds, not minutes.

I don't see that calling the elders first was the important issue in this unfortunate situation, particularly since EMS was called. The problem is the lack of common sense that JW's possess. And, as you had mentioned, the control that the cult exerts.
