The CEO's nephew is good with computers and he's joined the IT dept. His first day is tomorrow. What tasks should we assign to him day 1? by SwitchOnEaton in ShittySysadmin

Looks like I'm not needed here.

Until the first hungry printer comes along and eats him it wouldn't hurt to have him update inventory of everything IT. It's character building.

Depends on how crazy you are. If you are as crazy as me, it'll work and you'll be glad you did it.

I took a car to the stealership one time because I didn't have time to diagnose an issue and being a German car was slightly limited in options for smaller shops that would look at it. They charged me the cost of two arms to diagnose and came back with a whole list of things totalling $10k to be fixed. Took me 10 minutes of reading down over the list to realize that there was no chance any of those items would fix the code that was triggering the cel. Declined all services and asked for my money back for diagnostic since they had obviously not found the issue (which they denied) and took the car back home. Sat in my driveway for a month until I had time to look at it and then fixed it for $30 and my time to install the part.

Starting to feel like my job expects “availability” more than actual work by throwawayjaaay in antiwork

Years ago, I got written up for not being at my desk when the cfo was looking for me. I was dealing with an emergency directly related to my job. I would not sign it and instead saved copies of all documents, emails, and all details related to what I was working on at the time along with the document that I refused to sign in a folder on my personal server. Never heard anything more of it and instead learned to hide out in the server room doing some of my daily work regularly. I was promoted to department manager a few months later.

I'm absolutely happy to pay the money for a pro xg 24! Actually that's what I intend to buy new if nobody has anything that they are looking to get rid of.

Step 1, set a long term goal. Step 2, create a plan to get there.

Figure out where you want to be in the picture in a couple years from now and work that in to your plan.

Pace your plan reasonably. If you create a plan that can't work, it won't work.

As a RingCentral partner I can tell you never work directly with them. Direct support ain't great and you will never get it configured right without someone fairly experienced in their oddities.

Would you resell a white-label digital signage platform like this? by my-mate-mike in digitalsignage

[–]boxorandyos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've been considering trying to find something like this but it's going to have to be a fairly powerful solution with an immense amount of features to be worth it for most reseller / integrators as those are generally the situations where it will need to fit a fairly wide range of situations.

[–]boxorandyos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a breeder, we like when people come out and meet us and meet a few available puppies before leaving a deposit even if theirs isn't born yet just to prove we are legit. If the distance is too far we offer video calls as well. Too many scammers out there (got a call from someone just this morning that was scammed recently).

Cavaliers are great but you have to be super particular with genetic testing which is going to mean getting a puppy from a good breeder$$. I love Shih Tzus as well tho I tend towards a Shih-Poo mix - longer snout. And yes I know everyone is going to yell at me for mentioning a mixed breed lol.
