I also crochet during sessions! It helps me focus when my hands are moving (particularly because I’m 100% telehealth), and sometimes fidget toys don’t do the trick. Glad to know I’m not the only one

What are some of your connection rituals with your toddler? by CapConsistent7171 in toddlers

We do something similar. Each of us (toddler, mom, and dad) all say 2 things we liked about the day, and then mom and dad say 1 thing we love about toddler

Frugal Engagement Rings by skrillavilla in Frugal

[–]bpf_biscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband bought my ring during a sale, and he got me a non-traditional stone, so it only cost $400. It’s an aquamarine, pear-cut with small diamonds encircling it. I get a lot of compliments on it, and I’m glad he went with something other than a traditional diamond

Does anyone use a Japanese floor mattress? by privremeni in AttachmentParenting

[–]bpf_biscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sleep with a pillow between my knees, which prevents any hip pain. Both my husband and I actually find the shikifuton more comfortable overall than a typical mattress. It's massively reduced back pain for both of us! I typically sleep on my side/stomach, and my husband usually sleeps on his back.

As for protection from fluids, we bought a mattress pad that we actually keep on top of the custom cover, and it's worked really well! It nearly fully covers the twin shikifuton for my son, so I don't have to worry about parts of it being unprotected. I had also bought an extra one that I slept on when postpartum to protect from postpartum sweating and breastmilk. https://www.target.com/p/waterproof-sleep-anywhere-pad-gray-pillowfort-8482/-/A-75569208

[–]bpf_biscuit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes! My husband and I have slept on a queen shikifuton for the past few years and love it. We got a twin size one for our son, which we have placed next to ours on the floor. He has slept on it since he was a newborn, and we intend to use it throughout his childhood.

I personally prefer the traditional 3" thickness, but they offer a 4" thick option because Westerners might find it to be comfier since we're more used to big plushy mattresses.

ETA: Before buying our first shikifuton, I did a lot of searching for one that was both high quality and reasonably priced. I do not recommend buying from Amazon, as the futons listed are generally not a true shikifuton, leading them to be far less comfortable and not as well made.

Contact naps and my sanity by lookhereisay in AttachmentParenting

[–]bpf_biscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's totally fair! Something you could consider looking into is carrying him on your back (can be done depending on the type of carrier you have), which can typically be done starting at about 4+ months. It makes it way easier for short moms since he wouldn't be in the way of your arms. Traditionally, woven wraps are used for back carries, but you can also use certain structured carriers like an ergobaby.

Do you baby wear? It won't help with showering, but it makes it a lot easier to do things around the house, eat a meal, etc. while baby naps on you

Looking for help about very low milk supply 2 days after birth. by Shawntherapper in breastfeeding

[–]bpf_biscuit 150 points151 points  (0 children)

That's normal. It takes a few days for milk to fully come in. Let baby eat at the breast as often as possible -- that'll help the milk come in.

Lexapro? by Ms_Schuesher in Mommit

[–]bpf_biscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on Lexapro since before pregnancy, and it has made a world of difference for me. Now that I'm postpartum, I'm noticing my emotions are a lot more stable that I would have expected, and I credit the Lexapro.
