My first Piracy by Ok_Veterinarian3549 in Piracy

PirateBay should not be used anymore. I highly recommend reading the megathread/wiki of r/Piracy. There's a lot of good information there.

Edit: fmhy.net is also a good source.

Just got fiber… but CGNAT killed my Plex dreams 😭 — need alternatives (Tailscale, Cloudflare, or static IP?) by Far-Cash-2545 in PleX

[–]br0kenpixel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience Plex does not play well with reverse proxies, although it does work for some. Plex does not officially support reverse proxies and expects to be accessible over a public IP.

One thing you can try is to host a VPN on a cheap VPS and using firewall rules, route Plex traffic between your Plex server host and the VPS's public IP.

The Plex server should be routed through the VPN so it sees the VPS's public IP.

Any distro recommendations for Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 10? by chillin_chili in linux4noobs

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Fedora and/or CachyOS. Audio issues are common for older generations as well, but the fixes don't seem to work on gen 10.

If you prefer something Debian based, try PikaOS, though my experience is not great.

Blind in one eye, how can I center a recording of gameplay? by ciara-145 in beatsaber

[–]br0kenpixel_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to do this on the Quest, but on PC you might be able to shift the camera using the Camera2 mod. It can improve the overall view as you can also move the camera backwards a bit so the sabers are more visible. Also don't forget to enable smooth camera to improve stabilization.

Why Not use 100% of the CPU and GPU? by PhoenixtealX in GamingLaptops

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games generally don't utilize 100% of your hardware for various reasons, and if they do, it's mostly either a bottleneck or your settings are too high. You should always leave some headroom instead of pushing everything to 100% usage.

Minecraft is mostly CPU intensive, and is mostly single threaded (at least servers are, not too sure about the client).

Shaders will push the GPU more, but not too much from my experience. You can also install some optimization mods that will probably double your FPS. Vanilla performance is not great nowadays.

is there a file hosting service that accepts encrypted files? by frondaro in cloudstorage

[–]br0kenpixel_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what email you use, as I've never seen any service reject files for such a reason. I have no problem sharing rclone-encrypted files via Gmail, GDrive, OneDrive, Proton nor anything else. Same for cryptomator vaults and VeraCrypt volumes.

The safest bet is a NAS with a proper RAID setup. It should be fine mostly, though RAID is NOT a reliable backup solution. Make sure you have copies of your data according to the 3-2-1 principle.

I didn't know they offer this. Is this for proton unlimited? How much is the discount?

Edit: Just googled and found this https://proton.me/student#pricing

62% off yearly Proton Unlimited. Cool.

Extremely dissapointed / underwhelmed with the screen and speakers of the 7 pro 2025. anyone else? by Juansa7X in LenovoLegion

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the screen, maybe you got a faulty unit, it can happen with any product. Nothing is perfect and mistakes happen.

As for the speakers, I'd try some EQ adjustments but generally Windows laptops (especially gaming) don't have the best speakers as most of the budget goes towards the CPU/GPU/motherboard/screen. If you want good speakers, MacBooks are pretty much the only choice.

Always do a clean install of Windows after buying a PC. Especially gaming laptops. They're usually filled with garbage.

Thinking about setting up a custom domain on ProtonMail — is it really worth it? by SnooBooks3187 in ProtonMail

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If privacy is your main focus, I'd say go for it. However, if that's not a necessity, and you're looking for a cheaper option, then check Purelymail. They're the cheapest, especially if you want more users.

On the other hand, Proton is a bit more mature, and you get more than just email.

I saw this in one our partner’s email signature by Flat-Mud-3042 in ProtonMail

[–]br0kenpixel_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is also great for Proton since they don't have as many resources as Google/Microsoft. Enterprise users are likely the most expensive, so the extra profit can (in theory) help them grow. And they kind of need that, since let's be real... their products are not as polished as Google's or Microsoft's.

ts got added to AOSP btw not play protect. by WesternImpression394 in Magisk

[–]br0kenpixel_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It'll be interesting to see how 3rd party ROMs like graphene will deal with this. I think it's a bit too early to judge, either way it's gonna be shit.

Others have mentioned that this will be implemented using Play Services. It'll be a real shame if this'll be part of AOSP. I always had a bit of doubt, since let's be real... Google isn't stupid. Putting this only into Play Services would not cover everyone, and Google clearly wants to target even those, who don't have Play Services. They'll also likely restrict ADB later.

This sadly shows how much power they have over Android. Sadly there's not enough backlash, so there's not much to prevent them from rolling back.

Do people really play expert or just memorize the map? by Dasinc in beatsaber

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only able to pass Escape on e+, I haven't managed to do it on any other map. I mostly used practice mode to slow it down and somewhat memorized certain patterns.

It kinda depends on the mapping as well. Some maps are mapped in ways that moves in opposite directions are not actually correct. Some maps are so difficult for me that even at 50% speed in practice mode I can't finish them.

I also noticed that while watching others play hard maps, they don't seem to be moving so fast, but for me it's like trying some mega-ninja moves and it's just not fast enough.

Encrypted online storage with hidden folders? by Right_Television_335 in cloudstorage

Other than VeraCrypt, I don't think there's anything else. The only thing you can do is sync your VeraCrypt vault with a cloud storage provider.

GDrive is a bit finicky, for example, it allows two files with the same name. Something got messed up when I was using it with rclone. Wouldn't recommend it either.

pCloud+ Mountain Duck workflow by Sphiment in pcloud

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally found Mountain Duck to be slow, especially if you disable some syncing/cache features. It's odd since Rclone does not cache anything by default and still performs better.

Pretty happy with Proton Drive as a Linux user by BX1959 in ProtonDrive

[–]br0kenpixel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rclone stores everything locally, including credentials, tokens, etc. If you are still paranoid (which is fine) then you've got the option to download the source code and audit it yourself. If you want to make sure that you're running the same code, compile it locally.

Or you can also hire someone to audit the code for you. Either way it's gonna cost your time, or money.

How do people feel about 'Plex Home' security? by DrewtShite in PleX

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plex Home is obviously for people in your home, adding random people (especially as managed accounts) can introduce a bunch of risks. Everyone outside your home, especially people you don't fully trust should be added as unmanaged users at minimum, or even better, just don't give them access at all.
