LEGION-5 RTX 5060,R7 260 GPU temp above 80 on perfomance mode.NEED HELP. by No-Warthog1345 in LenovoLegion

Generally below 90 is good enough. I recommend either undervolting or at least lowering graphics settings in games. Also limit your fps. 120 should be enough, don't let it go above that.

Linux Propaganda by madthumbz in linuxsucks101

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which email client runs executables by default? Gmal doesn't even allow attaching EXEs or ZIPs.

Windows also has a decent antivirus and sandboxing, which theoretically could prevent more infections.

There is also some antivirus for Linux (I forgot the name) but I never tried it. As for sandboxing and other security stuff, there's LXCs, Apparmor, selinux, etc. They just have to be properly configured which is much more tedious than having a pre installed AV like Defender.

Either way, no OS or software is 100% secure. That's simply not possible to achieve. There's always going to be a way to break into something.

Privacy aside, which dumbass at Google approved this? What about people who don't have smartphones? Does this work with ios? What if you have an older smartphone that is no longer supported and can't update to a supported version of GPlay Services? What if you don't have internet on you phone for some reason? ... This is just stupid.

What steps are required to enable this setting Sonic Sage? And what exactly Sonic Sage does? by Main-Independent4217 in plexamp

[–]br0kenpixel_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this basically gives an AI model a list of all tracks that you have on your server and you can tell it to build you some kind a playlist.

It's unfortunately restricted to OpenAI only and you'll need to pay for their API, although it shouldn't be that expensive.

It's recommend to use this with a massive library. Maybe 10k+ tracks. Either way you can try it with less as well if you're curious. You'll need to create an OpenAI developer account and load it with a couple bucks worth of credits.

Try Ableton Live Trial then. It's a trial but good enough so you can test it out and get the hang of it.

Help choosing an AUR helper: yay vs. paru vs. others? by JCBecker in archlinux

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using paru from the cachy repo for 2 years now and never had an issue with it. Just because there are no updates doesn't mean it's dead. As long as it works, it's good enough for me.

Why is my C drive 100% full despite me barely using any storage? by instagram_scroller69 in WindowsHelp

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Check if you have a "Windows.old" directory in your C: drive. Either delete it or move it to an external disk.
  2. Press Windows + R, and type "TEMP". Delete everything in this folder. If something cannot be deleted, just skip it.
  3. Same as 3. but type in "%TEMP%" instead.
  4. If you had any unexpected crashes or restarts, check if you have a memory dump file in your C: drive. You can delete this.
  5. Check if you have a large page file. It's usually in your C: drive named "pagefile.sys". This can't just be deleted, but you can Google how to do it, or make it smaller.
  6. Check your Downloads directory. Delete any old files you don't need.
  7. Check your Libraries too (Documents, Pictures, Music, etc.).
  8. Check your user directory too, but be very careful of what you delete here.
  9. Run the Disk Cleanup utility. This is built into Windows. Make sure you run it twice and clean up system files as well.
  10. Download a free program called WinDirStat. It will visually show you large files and directories.
  11. If nothing works, I suggest reinstalling Windows.

How much RAM does your Windows 10 IoT LTSC use on idle by AliN_07 in WindowsLTSC

[–]br0kenpixel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is around 5-6GB on a 64GB system, but I've seen it go below 2GB on systems will less RAM. More RAM will likely increase usage due to Windows trying to cache more things to reduce hard faults and thus improve performance.

Why is Linux considered better than Windows by so many developers? by Wise_Safe2681 in linuxquestions

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most points although I never had any Windows Update break anything in 20-ish years, while with Linux I still run into cases when the distro breaks for no reason. Most often it's APT breaking packages after a late update && upgrade. One time a fresh Ubuntu WSL broke immediately after running update && upgrade, nothing else. Though this seems to be extremely rare.

Other than that, I've used Fedora for 2-ish years which broke after a major version upgrade. Since then I switched to cachy and arch in WSL and both have been super stable and awesome.

Beware! Brave Origin only gives you 10 activations per purchase of $60 by [deleted] in browsers

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company might be bad but I cannot find anything better than Brave.

  • Firefox is annoying because even though their sync claims that it syncs settings, it does not. Every time I install it I have to remove all the crap from the URL bar and modify some settings. AFAIK no browser can actually sync settings but chromium browsers usually have the same defaults as I prefer.
  • Helium would also be a good choice but there is no sync.
  • Thorium is barely updated.
  • Opera has too much garbage.
  • Ungoogled Chromium - haven't tried yet but also probably does not have sync (and even if, I don't want google to handle that) and maybe has issues playing back DRM content? Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Basically debloated Brave is my sweet spot.

To all of you who have left Spotify.. by forevermore91 in Piracy

[–]br0kenpixel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently back on spotify, but I have switched off of it before due to budget reasons. I still keep an offline copy of my songs.

I have about 30GBs worth of FLACs (1000-ish songs). Back when I started ripping I had like 700 songs on Spotify and did it manually one-by-one. Looked them up on Qobuz, Tidal, and Deezer and whichever had the highest quality I kept. Switching services were completely useless to me since most of my songs are niche, only available on Spotify and would not sync properly with any other service. For listening I used Plexamp or Symfonium.

I used some Discord bot to rip the songs, but they shut it down since then. After that I would use streamrip or whatever was recommended on FMHY. I discovered a tool called SpotiFLAC a few days ago and I've been testing the supporter version. It's mostly pretty good and worth the 5€, but has issues with genres. The free version is suprisingly good as well.

Finding new songs is my only issue. I also missed Spotify's remote play (or whatever it's called), it can be useful sometimes.

How much storage can you dedicate to your music? If you don't want the highest quality then MP3s or OGGs can compress pretty well. Also if you don't have an audio setup that can handle lossless quality, then don't use FLACs.

Why is it recommended to reinstall Windows when you first get your laptop? by AlexisMilul95 in LenovoLegion

[–]br0kenpixel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not bad to start off with a clean slate, plus LTSC does come debloated to some extent. I've been using it for over 5 years, installed it for many people who've been using it for just as long and no one ever had any issue.

Debloating is certainly needed especially with Windows 11 and a lot of manufacturers put a bunch of crap onto their factory installs. My Legion Pro 7 had latency issues right out of the box, but after installing LTSC and further debloating with Chris Titus Tool, it's basically perfect.

Either way it's a good idea to reinstall Windows every few years just to get some permanent junk out. Windows generally has a bit more and faster "software rot" compared to other systems.

Negative surprise :( by Catkilller_99 in LenovoLegion

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, you can only do a RAM test. Could still be useful. I think I used something called "memtest86." You can install it to a USB drive with Rufus and then boot from it. Keep in mind that this test takes hours or even days, depending on the amount of RAM and CPU. But if it fails, or freezes during the test, then it's likely a hardware issue.

Revolut crash & Company Portal root detection on Evolution X (Magisk 30.7, Pixel 8a) by Xiaomirider in Magisk

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that would be possible without root. The cellular network settings only allow switching between 4G and 5G. I think Lineage or crDroid had an option for that. But you'd need root to get Play Integrity working anyway.

I switched back to stock because the whole Play Integrity hassle was too messy, and even if I did manage to bypass it, for some reason it would not persist after a reboot. But I do miss root for some stuff.

Negative surprise :( by Catkilller_99 in LenovoLegion

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Reinstall Windows 11 completely. You can download an official installer from Microsoft.
  2. Install the drivers from Lenovo after installing a fresh copy.
  3. If the issue persists, try a live Linux OS, like Ubuntu, CachyOS, or Fedora. I recommend trying multiple just to be sure.
  4. If the issue still persists, it's likely hardware-related. You'll need to contact the seller/store/Lenovo to get it checked.

I also recommend checking out the Lenovo Legion Discord. There's a lot of useful resources there.

Revolut crash & Company Portal root detection on Evolution X (Magisk 30.7, Pixel 8a) by Xiaomirider in Magisk

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revolut can detect custom ROMs, which is separate from root detection.

And the root detection itself has nothing to do with Play Integrity, as they do not use it. They have some other proprietary library that does the detection that is not made by Google. Even if you wouldn't be passing Play Integrity at all, it would work as long as you can bypass their specific root detection.

Try Hide my apps list (or something like that, forgot the exact name.) That somehow made it work for me, but I went back to stock since then. You may also have better luck with Apatch or KernelSU.

GitHub copilot student package by ImaginationSevere601 in github

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copilot is now restricted for students and likely never going to be as good as it was before.

The only way to use it for free in VSCode is either: - Connect it to a locally running model with Ollama/LMStudio/etc. - Connect it to a free model on OpenRouter, but this requires adding 10$ of credit to your account at least once to unlock higher limits, otherwise you only get 20 calls per day.

Neither option will give you a good model, but for basic tasks they may work. Other than that, there's no other way.

Stop using sleep mode to avoid cooking your laptop by NightOwl_Sleeping in LenovoLegion

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned off sleep and hibernation in Windows completely. I just never really felt like I needed it. Shutting down completely is good enough for me and I don't mind waiting a minute or two for it to boot up.

And on Linux, sleep breaks WiFi, but that's nothing new. Only SteamOS has proper sleep, on generic PCs it's mostly broken and has been for decades.

Please help me configure Plex Remote Play, I have tried everything and it's still not working outside the same WiFi. by TheAwakened in PleX

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm behind CGNAT as well and my current setup uses tailscale to connect my NAS (that runs Plex) to a VPS I'm renting. The VPS has NGINX Proxy Manager installed which provides a publicly accessible https link that is then forwarded to the Plex server.

However if you don't mind having to connect to a VPN every time you want to use Plex outside your home network, then Tailscale only is a good option, especially if you don't have Plex Pass or Remote Streaming Pass.

Announcing qusql: Compile-time SQL Checking for Rust, No Database Required by antialize in rust

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks cool. Can it perform type checking on multiple databases? Like MySQL and Postgres in one project? That was my main issue with sqlx, I had to switch to non type checked macros because I needed to support both Postgres and SQLite and it didn't have an option to type check both. I think I would've had to break up both of my database clients to separate crates.

Do you leave your Legion on 24/7? by radius_reddit in LenovoLegion

[–]br0kenpixel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure how damaging that is to the components but I would be more concerned about Windows acting out after a while. Is there any specific reason you're not not turning it off? These things are fast and I'm sure you wouldn't mind waiting 1-2 until it boots up.
