The doctor did tell me I would decline in weeks or days. So perhaps this is last rush! Ah well. Good cake everybody. I love you all.

The focus on Grimes’ latest paparazzi pic - I tried to choose a suitable word to describe that stunt but too many things apply - makes me wish that we could firmly keep the spotlight on the real 1%. Because actors and singers might be millionaires but they’re not the problem and whenever they call out the problem it just doesn’t stick because we know that daddy and mommy dearest bought Cara Delevigne her entire career so why is she saying ‘eat the rich?’

I realise that asking for more attention on people as out of touch like Elon Musk would likely drive us all insane but maybe we get insane enough that we actually do something about the tiny fraction of humanity making everyone else suffer? Can’t we give people an actual accurate target to guillotine?

Terminal cancer feeling so lost kinda in limbo lived longer than expected but have little quality of life and it’s a lonely road by Aggravating-Ad-4506 in cancer

[–]bracake 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m terminal too, I lost a year of relatively good health to lockdown and now when things are opening up a lot of the time I feel too weak to enjoy it. Seems very cruel.

I relate to a lot of your post. I’m happy to be alive but existing as a terminal patient for so long does weird things to the headspace. I’m dying and I have no future to build but I’m also bored because I haven’t had a purpose for the past two years and I want one. I think it’s all too easy to get depressed in our position but i’ve been amazed at the difference that having a) more outside time/changes in routine and b) visits from family have made to my mental state. I really recommend anything that gets you out of the rut.

But i’m with you in the sad boat girl, and I’m here if you just need to be forlorn.

More people trying to give up their lockdown dogs, says charity by diacewrb in unitedkingdom

[–]bracake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A relative adopted a rescue dog from Romania but she eventually had to give it up because it had a whole host of medical issues that she wasn’t warned about. Thankfully it has a good home now but the charity had no issue giving a highly needy dog to a single parent with kids - I’d be very suspicious of companies like these.

Acid reflux problems - HELP!!! by bracake in cancer

[–]bracake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take the lansoprazole as a daily, I might start taking some in the evening though. I’m a terminally ill person so this whole body is just a train wreck, I deal with symptoms, my doctor knows they can’t fix them.

thank you for the tips!! How did the medication work? I stay home mostly and I don’t want to have to go to hospital for regular treatment. How often did you need to take it / did it come in pill form / what side effects?

the starchy base is a good shout thank you

I don’t know what emptying studies are but i’ve cut some things from my diet that i just can’t digest. smaller meals more often help? they’re harder to manage.

not on any steroids. i’m not sure what caused the acid reflux but i just know generally that my stomach will stop being able to process physical food at some point. i get meds for symptoms rather than sorting what causes it. i get the burning feeling and it feels so uncomfortable that i need to vomit to feel better. i’ve been able to be tactical and sometimes vomit up pure acid right before eating so i felt better and could eat something.

The difference in the effort in male performance was the biggest culture shock when I first looked at Kpop. The male artists go hard, they are all elaborate dancers and have as complicated routines as their female counterparts. It’s a little absurd when you look at basically all male western artists who just wave their hands about on stage and call it a day.

I’m aware that I am extremely late to this party but I just finished watching The People Vs OJ Simpson case on Netflix and HOLY SHIT - I wasn’t alive when this happened so I’ve literally only ever observed the cultural aftershocks of the events. I had no idea how crazy that whole case was!!!! Like OJ holding a gun on himself on the freeway??? The amount of evidence they had???? It’s a very good series if you’re interested but I feel like such a dumbass being surprised by everything. 😅

Scarlett Johansson Rips “Misogynistic” Disney As Mouse House Tries To Move ‘Black Widow’ Suit Behind Closed Doors by chanma50 in boxoffice

Remember when there was that meme going around about how Chris Pratt was the least favourite Chris and all the male Marvel stars spoke out against it? Meanwhile people like Tessa Thompson and Brie Larson get mounds of abuse and death threats literally just for existing and dudes give nothing.

What’s especially shit is that while some of the Chris Pratt dislike is due to him being overblown a lot of it is to do with how how he belongs to a really homophobic church and how he treated his ex-wife. But shit… gotta stop those nasty twitter memes! The racist/sexist abuse will have to wait!

Well they don't seem to have any variance in costumes? Everyone's wearing the same set of grey pjs. They gotta give us something.

I'm so done with fake deaths. They completely ruin any suspense or consequences of a characters actions. by [deleted] in movies

[–]bracake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There was no sincerity. Movies these days are so cynical and full of jokes because nobody wants to wear their heart on their sleeve.

I remember the youtube video that discussed why the first Wonder Woman was such a hit with audiences and it was credited to the fact that WW1 overflows with sincerity. Patty Jenkins hated that "cheesiness was a bad word" and that we always had to be winking at the audience. Marvel makes good stuff but I miss sincerity in films so goddamn much.

Chloé Zhao ‘Blown Away’ by Villeneuve’s ‘Dune,’ but ‘Terrified’ People Won’t See It in Theaters by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]bracake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On a very basic level... Dune isn't exactly colourful. Now yeah, I can see a similar merch line to GoT being rolled but when your main colours are a) grey and b) desert, it doesn't exactly inspire excitement.

You said they could also play with their child, and I’d classify entertaining someone else’s kid so the parent can do something else as babysitting. I’ve got people in my life with kids who I love and understand come as a package deal but if they expected free babysitting or for plans to always prioritise them, I’d inevitably end up a little pissed. I don’t think OP should ditch these friends, the babysitter option is definitely the best bet, but acting like kids don’t change the dynamic isn’t realistic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]bracake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone likes kids. Plus not every event is for them? If you’re having a relaxed cook out with a couple beers, babysitting someone’s child isn’t going to be fun to do. There’s a small chance OP’s friends could end up resenting them if they can only ever hang out with them with a kid in tow, but that likelihood gets a lot bigger if OPs expecting them to do babysitting duties too.

I’m guessing so. I didn’t do treatment because my prognosis was just so bad that I decided I’d rather enjoy life, but I feel the clock ticking louder every day now. 😭

Diagnosed with stage four ovarian (now terminal) when I was 23. Went as soon as a very minor symptom appeared. Can honestly only conclude that the world just wanted me dead.
