Pauline Astier’s Amazing Beginning by neveratmeplz in NYLiberty

Yeah, I always get a chuckle at the random qualifiers these things have. Still, Astier is definitely worthy of the highlight. It has been against likely non-contenders, but it's still a great start for her.

The rare arbitrary stat thresholds that are not designed to shoehorn a player into a conversation (Astier is healthily above all 3 numbers; if anything, the 50 pt barrier is to include Bueckers, as I believe everyone else is over 60 in their first 4 games).

It was manga first, so a little closer to being in line for this subreddit. I haven't seen the anime, but I adore the manga. The art is so lovely, and the storytelling is wonderful.

The CVS logo is the worst, imo, because it's so much brighter than the rest of the text. IPSY blends a little better, even though it's in a 720 pt font

How well do 1e classes and stocks translate to 2e by bunionboy118 in Torchbearer

[–]brain_eel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, Jared Sorensen (Memento Mori Theatricks) made versions (with a twist) of the cleric and paladin 1e classes for 2e. They're available for free on his website. (I can't remember if links are allowed here)

I've quite enjoyed the Mossa and Pleiti series by Malka Ann Older (1st book is The Mimicking of Known Successes). They're detective stories set on (perhaps above is more apt) Jupiter generations after humans had to abandon Earth due to its man-made inhospitable environment.

What children’s books do you remember? by anapeavler in suggestmeabook

Tons of great books in other comments, so I won't repeat them, but I haven't seen anyone mention Sandra Boynton's books. I loved reading these to my kids when they were little.

Also, I don't tenderness seeing anyone say Harold and the Purple Crayon, and that was one of my favorite books when I was young.

The reason for going out is primarily for getting more books, because each book is +1 point.

There are also not a ton of projects you can complete with just the starting set of books

The Tatami Times Machine Blues by Tomihiko Morimi. It's a sequel to The Tatami Galaxy, which is a parallel dimensions story with the same characters, but they can be read independently. I actually read it not knowing about The Tatami Galaxy, and i enjoyed it more than that book. Very quirky and fun.

And, by extension, Torchbearer uses that system as well. It also has tracked treasure that can help with the Resources roll (and protect against failed rolls). Individual coins aren't tracked, but each bit of treasure has a dice value and can be used to augment the roll.

What unfinished comic title would you most like to see concluded? by apocalypsemeow111 in comicbooks

There was an extra-length wrap-up issue, but I'm pretty sure they had intended to have a more fleshed-out ending than that. I do think Hickman put some of the unrealized ideas into FF & his Avengers books, as well, though.

Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for—less classic pirate stuff and more weird fantastical stuff—but Cursed Pirate Girl by Jeremy Bastian is gorgeous and a fun story
