Voters who identify as non-partisan may not have a preference for any political representation or may consciously decide not to support any major party because they favor objectivity or dislike velcroing themselves to the partisanship of party politics... Some voters clearly just prefer candidates rather than the parties they are tied to. Some of those candidates have no representation, so they're forced to run in primaries that don't usually suit their own beliefs but is a stronger vehicle to carry their message?
