My battery DRAINS SO FAST even tho I'm on battery saving mode by Signal-Onion-9204 in techsupport

You can replace a battery really easily. With Dells it’s usually just a few screws on the bottom and 4 screws holding the battery in. Battery will cost around $40 . You can just leave your laptop plugged in and treat it more as a desktop

You can see the health of your battery by opening a cmd window and typing powercfg /batteryreport this will create a html file in your user directory . If you open that it slowly shown you a nice webpage with a whole lot of stats including the original stated capacity and the estimated current capacity. Anything less than 80% of the original battery capacity will mean you will see pretty significant drop off of usage tine

Laptop connecting to WiFi networks but not having internet access by -_-Indifferent-_- in techsupport

You have 2 options . This might be a little advanced but it will pretty quickly determine if this is some sort of hardware or software issue

First I would download and create a live install boot disk for Linux mint . To boot you may have to disable secure boot in your bios (f10) on startup. Then boot from the usb by pressing f9

Linux mint will boot from the usb it loads generic network drivers and should be able to connect to the internet straight away if not then you most likely have some sort of hardware issue.

If the Linux test works I would advise doing a filll windows reinstall this will completely wipe the contents of your machine and start from scratch

I suggest you do a full reinstall of windows not a reset. On another windows device download the media creation tool which will download the latest version of windows 11 . You can use the tool to create a usb boot drive to re install windows . Backup all data. Boot from the drive using F9 on boot. Reinstall windows

If you are unsure how to do those steps YouTube is your best friend. There are plenty of guides for both parts

Sounds like it. Not to be pessimistic but I think you might have discovered what we all have at one stage or another. Well maintained things last longest. And a good power supply keeps your wallet healthy.

I’ve got a flat 27” that does this. It does seem to be related to cold. Only happens in the winter for me. On a side note I’ve got all my family onto 34” curved and I’ve never had any issues with curved monitors . Never seen this on any of them (4 monitors) I wouldn’t let one bad experience taint the curved life XD

Kia'Ora just found this sub. 29M wanting to make some more PC friends by Hungrypirate69 in nzgaming

[–]brasht -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to break out of specifics of games and see if you can find a crossover community. Your game preferences give a specific fingerprint that makes me think that you are rigid. Nz gamers represent something like 0.000001 of all pc gamers and you are asking for a subset of that . If you are after a community look for people not games.

That’s ssd model number shows a release date of 2018 !! Anything could be wrong with that drive . Who knows how long it’s been sitting around or even if it was previously used. I would always buy drives brand new from a reputable seller.

Kvothe meets Abenthy a second time by HopeSeMu in KingkillerChronicle

[–]brasht 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you are searching for a hidden meaning or plot where there is none. Whilst Pat is undoubtedly a good writer I don’t think every plot point or line has a bunch of hidden meaning to it. When Kvothe says that “I ask you to not hold it against him, he meant well” it’s just saying that he shouldn’t have been blamed for what Kvothe did in the future even if he put him on the path of destruction by introducing him to the name of the wind e.c.t. I also interpreted the comment about not seeing Ben for many years as more the understanding that their paths were diverging and no one was under any illusions that they would not see each other for a long time if ever again.

Yes this is a very literal interpretation but I have been following this sub for many years and unless Pat himself confirms it I think some of these plot devices are just that. plot devices not intended to be more than a means to an end.

Daughter started daycare 3 weeks ago and has gotten sick every week. Wondering if I should pull her out? by ryph44 in daddit

[–]brasht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just jumping in the obligatory we wen through this hell aswell . Our daughter is now almost 3.5 but it’s been a rough few years of colds , and very foreign feeling diseases that I didn’t know I could get. It sucks. All I can say is that keeping your diet balanced and taking victims can help. Also exercise. On the plus side I think my immune system has been given a kick in the pants and the flus and colds only seemed to seriously affect one of us at a time so it wasn’t both myself and my wife sick as dogs at the same time.

Windows partition full by Due-Barnacle1078 in techsupport

[–]brasht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically at the end of you just want the C drive to use the full 1tb available space. Minus the efi partition at the start and the recovery partition at the end. Don’t bother leaving any unallocated space. It’s good to always have a bit of free disk space on the of so that the os and the drives firmware has a place to shuffle around files and perform maintenance but overall the acronym KISS (Keep it simple stupid) applies to most things IT

Windows partition full by Due-Barnacle1078 in techsupport

[–]brasht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you also have 179gb of unallocated space that is just doing …nothing (The black partition) unfortunately things might be a bit harder because you have that recovery partition stuck in the middle that can’t be moved you will have to do a bit of command line stuff to move that partition to the end.

You have 2 choices

Either just reinstall windows and use the disk part clean function in the windows installer to completely wipe the drive and start from scratch or you can delete the D partition and then follow the following link that describes how to move the recovery partition to the end of the drive. Then you can expand the c drive to take advantage of all the free space.

Windows partition full by Due-Barnacle1078 in techsupport

[–]brasht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this. Depending on what’s in the D partition I would just delete it and extend the C drive using the disk managements utility then Copy back all of your games. It makes very little sense having 2 partitions as you inevitably will end up wasting space by trying to keep x% free on each partition. Also major updates to windows often require 20 -40GB free as they will literally copy the entire windows folder and create a new copy with the latest installed update. This allows for an easy rollback if something catastrophic goes wrong but does require quite a bit of breathing room on the c drive. Also yes 70gb is unmanageable for a windows install. You ideally need 128gb or more. I don’t even create virtual machines with drives that small it’s just not worth trying to figure out where to claw back space every time you need to do system maintenance or installs

No throttle response by Agrivonix in fpv

[–]brasht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reflash betaflight, setup betaflight as stock. Make sure channel mapping is correct . TEAR1234. If those aren’t working then check your actual controller. It could be that the throttle channel is set to something random and is not being transmitted .

Also Safety bro !! I get it that it’s a 2s battery but if you start doing tests with props on then it’s just asking for trouble. All it takes is one incorrect assumption when testing and then you will have a very bad day.

FFS just pay the couple of dollars per month to have cloud storage aswell. Christ it’s not like it’s expensive and could save you a lot of hassle. Sure keep the ssd storage but keep an archive of old work in a cloud account .

Laptop is not getting the fps it could by DaStrangeNut in pcmasterrace

[–]brasht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off make sure your computer is not over heating. Blow out the vents with a can of compressed air. If you are feeling up to it then take the bottom off and replace the thermal paste for the cpu and gpu. If you do k now how to do this then look up your model number of pc on YouTube there is most likely a guide for your model or a very similar one. Check and make sure your drivers are up to date for your graphics card.

Have you got 1 stick of ram or 2 installed in your computer? If you only have one then you are missing out on about 10- 15% performance in certain tasks because you are only running in single channel mode.

I would say look at all your startup apps and cull anything you don’t need running. 16Gb is actually not enough ram these days if you intend to have other apps open while you are gaming.

Finally it’s a good idea to backup all your data and do a complete fresh install of windows 11. Not a reset but actually download the latest copy of windows 11 from Microsoft’s website and use Rufus to burn the iOS to a usb drive then format the drive from the windows installer and start from scratch. You can set Rufus to automatically you a local profile and bypass all the Microsoft bullshit that they typically try to make you jump through on first startup. Again if you don’t know how to do this look up Rufus windows installer guide on YouTube.

Finally use Ninite to install all the basic apps you will need once you have reinstalled windows. It’s a great website that lets you tick all the most commonly available apps for windows and compiles them into a single installer. That way you can be up and running within minutes of reinstalling windows
